— „You never know what all the things lying on the floor tangled together are.“

HAT No.1 JELLY PILAR — „I started with flower motive then added a shape of Greek pillar and jelly mould. This hat reminds me of a mess in children‘s room.“

HAT No.2 HOUSE — „As a child I always wanted to have a hat like a house. NO, I am joking I wanted to have it now. House for my head where I can hide and have a moment for myself, dreaming… or occasionally invite friends to visit.“

something unreal in the real world COLLECTION OF 7 HATS WOMENSWEAR

Hat in this collection is like a totem unifying different shapes together. Simple forms and endless possibilities of shapes reminds me of 3D programmed world where I am partly taking my inspiration from. I love to play with contrast of the unreal “artificial” and real world. By blending those two creating a surreal appearance. Playful, infant and humorous are important words in my work. Taking a bit of everything I am mixing: children’s toys, Agostino Bonalumi “painting-object”, Hugo Demartini sculptures, plastic moulds. Simplicity of felt material gives me a possibility to unify different shapes and structures into one wearable object. Felt has fascinating characteristics truly imitate difficult relief. This material for me is like sand. Using felt I can create almost everything I wish. These sculpturally conceived fashion accessories are hand crafted from 100% rabbit felt.

HAT No.4 CACTUS —“Regularly Divided top part of the hat was inspired by architectonic as well as an organic element like a cactus. The cactus that emerges from the brim. Serious and funky at the same time.“

HAT No.5 SMILE — „Sphere, sticks and smile face :) mix of toys and shapes from childhood memories.“

← HAT No.3 GREEN RAIN — „Green Rain hat imitate objects from 3D programs, objects without substance. I catch the moment when two things blend together. Then I transfer this moment into a real physical object to create a hat with bit of material mystery..“

HAT No.6 LEAK —“Simple shape. Inspired by 3D programmed objects.“

HAT No.7 FLOWER — „Upper part of the Hat is made the other way around. Imagine a classic hat with round top, then cut the top in half and swap this two pieces. The heavier part appears on top of the hat. From above I put a relief of geometric flower, which can be replaced for another relief. This relief makes the shape of the hat softer and more feminine.“

curriculum vitae SOFYA SAMAREVA

born in RUDNY—KAZAKHSTAN 1987

„EVERYBODY CAN WEAR A HAT, JUST NEED TO FIND THE RIGHT ONE.” This was a start point of my work a few years ago. Back in 2014 I didn‘t find any suitable hat for myself so I have begun with the first collection of hats. After satisfying my needs, I focused the attention on friends, whom I found had a same headache. After the first collection, it became a rolling snowball bringing a lot of questions, collaborations, opportunities and finally it became the meaning of my life. During the journey I met a lot of interesting people and collaborated with them, to mention two favorites: designers duo Muslin Brothers and singer Róisín Murphy. Exhibitions, fashion weeks, design events together with each new collections and every new customer are like a puzzle that creates the vision of the work. My aim is to create unique hats that would evoke new feelings thanks to blend of traditional materials and innovative shapes. Applying a sculptural approach to the work I am pushing the boundaries of hat making craft. I believe in bright comeback of headwear.
