MEDICAL I was detected a diabetic last month and I started on diabetic tablets. Now my blood sugar values are FBS 104mgs% and PPBS 146mgs%. My question is, shall I stop diabetic medications? This is one of common questions all diabetic persons have in their mind. We diagnose a person as a diabetic when the fasting blood sugar is more than 126mgs% and the postprandial blood sugar value is more than 200mgs% and we start diabetic medications only when the life style modifications like diet plan and daily physical activity will not succeed in bringing down the blood sugar values to desirable levels. The goal for diabetes treatment should be to bring down the fasting blood sugar to be somewhere between 80mgs% and 110mgs%, postprandial blood sugar values to be between 120 – 160mgs% and HbA1c between 6.5% - 7.0%. Additional goals in diabetes management are controlling blood pressure, blood cholesterol levels and preventing diabetes complications. Usually the diabetes medications are started after the lifestyle medication fails to control blood sugar values. Once diabetes medications are started and then the blood sugar values will come down with the help of medicines. It means that blood sugar levels are controlled with the effect of medications. If we stop the medications blood sugar level will rise. There are some situations where we can reduce or even stop diabetes medications, like whenever blood sugar fasting less than 80 mgs%, postprandial blood sugar less than 120mgs%, HbA1c level less than 6.5% and any evidence of low sugar symptoms (Hypoglycemia). If the blood sugar levels are maintained within the expected goal, it is better to continue the diabetes medications rather than stopping the medications and keep monitoring the values. LEGAL

Legal Corner I would like to register my company as a Private Company. Can you tell me the procedure? Before starting the process of registering your company, the prospective directors must have the director identification numbers (DIN) and digital signature certificates. After acquiring the two, you have to get the name of the company approved by the concerned Registrar of Companies (ROC), which is done by filling Form 1A. You can give maximum of six names and the ROC replies within seven days as to the availability of the names. However, normally the name-approval process only takes two to three days.Once the name is approved, the next step is to draft the memorandum and articles of association (MOA and AOA). The difference between the two is that the articles contain only those clauses that define the internal functioning of the company. On the other hand, the memorandum of a company defines important clauses such as authorized capital clause and the object clause. The authorized capital clause determines the extent to which the ownership base can be expanded by issuing fresh shares or other instruments in the future. The object clause defines the objectives of the company and has two sections; one for the main objectives and the second describing the other businesses that you might want to get into at a later stage. Once the MOA and AOA prepared, you have to send MOA & AOA to the concerned registrar for inspection and to mark out objections, if any. Finally all the documents along with some other details like particulars of appointment of managing director, directors, manager and secretary are sent to the concerned registrar for stamping. The registration of companies and subsequent filings can be done online. But, an authorized person has to go in person during the scrutiny of the memorandum and articles of association and during the stamping of the documents. The last step is to pay the registration fee, which varies on the basis of the company’s authorized capital. After completing all the above said procedures the company will get registered as a private limited company under the Companies Act, 1956 and gets its certificate of incorporation. The whole process to get the certificate of incorporation for a private limited company takes approximately about 15-20 days. One thing to keep in mind is that the registration must be done at the regional office of the Registrar of Companies. There are some more things that are required by a private limited company, like getting a permanent account number (PAN) and a company seal, after it is registered. However, you can begin its operation right after getting a certificate of incorporation and complete the rest of the formalities simultaneously
