Diabetes detection camp Can I believe in glucometers? Are they reliable? Is the glucometer value the same as that of the lab values? Glucometers are useful in self-monitoring of blood glucose (SMBG); Glucometers are useful to those people whose blood sugar needs to be frequently tested like that of type1 diabetes, pregnancy diabetes, diabetes in adolescent age group and in a hospital setup. Glucometers play a major role in emergency condition like hypoglycemia and diabetic coma. In these conditions we can rely upon the glucometers.

On the occasion of world diabetes day, Rotary Club of Chennai Golden Star, Chennai Gemini, Madras Ashoknagar in association with Chendur Diabetes specialty centre conducted Diabetes detection and awareness camp at Sivan

Glucometer values are 8-12% higher than of the lab values. It has been accepted by International standard glucometers also. Glucometers asses the blood sugar level of the capillary blood, which has a high blood sugar content compared to the venous blood. In lab, the venous blood sugar is tested. So it is normal to have about 10 % high blood sugar levels in glucometer readings. Nowadays, glucometers are available in which we get reliable blood sugar values within 5 seconds. Fully automated glucometers have the strips embedded in the glucometers. Glucometers can be life savers in condition like hypoglycemia, which needs immediate blood sugar assessment and emergency treatment. Glucometers are commonly used in hospitals to check blood sugar values frequently during surgery and in intensive care wards. We recommend glucometers in pregnancy diabetes, where in one need to check the blood sugar levels at least six times a day. In latest glucometers, we can assess the blood ketone levels also, which is very useful for patients with very high blood sugar level.

Temple, we and science Temple is a pure laboratory, it's the science of conscious experience. When we are in a temple, what is recorded in us is energy and energy. When inside a temple, we are in the presence of super conscious and hence we feel total bliss. All the various idols in the temples are embodiment of the same energy. In the silence and divinity that surrounds the temple, we realise that we are one with the almighty. We merge with him and the divine oneness happens within us. Later on we start experiencing the same vibrant energy in our being. The ultimate thing for a human being is the devotion towards the almighty, and

be able to receive the vibrant energy which we can experience in a temple. As we practise to be in constant touch with the almighty our consciousness rises, new energy levels happen in us. When we feel constantly that we are the embodiment of everlasting bliss our body with start radiating grace. Our body is pure intelligence. The universe is made up of the five elements such as earth, water, fire, air and space. In the same way our body too is made up of the same five elements. In temple we are taught to relate to the macrocosm through all these five elements. Relating to the universe,

"prabanjam" in Tamil, through the earth element is through worship of the idols. Relating through the water element is offering abhishekas, the holy bath to the divine. Relating through the air is through the chanting of sacred mantras. By conducting fire rituals, we relate to the fire element. We can liberate ourselves from the worldly issues by just being to the temple, which is the ultimate energy radiating centre of the divine. The first people to make this conclusion, who did research on it and established a connection with this energy, were the saints or siddhars. They

established many ways for the future generations to realise this energy. Today in this modern world of intellectual growth, we miss out on the emotional needs. The temple is a gift that offer us an opportunity to explore our emotional being and live in totality. Let us visit the divine centre again and again, which will awaken new energies in us, as now we are aware and ready to explore the GOD in us. Anything we respect enters our inner space . Next time when you are in the divine lap of almighty, in our very own temple, enjoy the vibrant silence ! Vikram V
