Graduation day of tiny tots
I am having diabetes for the past six years. My blood sugars are under control. I am planning to keep fasting for a day in next week. I want to know whether I need to take medicines on the day of fasting. Keeping your blood sugar under control is really commendable. When a person fasts, many changes occur in the body, especially in a diabetic. Once a diabetic is fasting, new blood sugar will be formed from protein and fat. To maintain the blood sugar levels, the protein and fat in our body is broken down to amino acids and fatty acids . These amino acids and fatty acids are converted into blood sugar with the help of liver. During the breaking down and converting processes, dangerous ketone bodies are produced by the liver. Increased level of ketones leads to electrolyte imbalance, further causing heart and brain dysfunction. Fasting will not only alters the blood sugar levels but it will also produce ketosis and dysfunction of the heart and the brain. Fasting is not advocated for diabetes patients. Once the diabetes sets in, the food habits and the time of consumption of food has to be altered according to the body’s needs. The simple rule for diabetics is ‘no fasting and no feasting.’

Saint Thyagaraja`s “ Anupama Gunambudhi”.and Papanasam Sivan`s” Sara nam Ayyappa” in Mukhari enthralled the audience. Harikesanallur Muthaiah Bhagavathar `s Bhuvaneswariyam in Mohan Kalyanai was performed along with detailed alapana and it was a soothing experience to listen to the violinist. Saint Thiagaraja`s “Nannu Kanna
Thalli Na Bhagyama” in Kesari ragam stood for the sahithyanubhavam. BhoSambho in Revathi was presented as the thukada. The kalpanaswaram and a l a p a n a g a v e sangeethanubhavam. The violin concert was a treat to the audience with a variety. Shertalai Ananthakrishnan on the mrudangam and Sree Sundara Kumar on kanjira supported violinist. They inspired the audience to enjoy the layanubhavam d u r i n g t h e thaniavarthanam.
Isai Jothi for Vijay Siva
N Vijay Siva, a disciple of late D.K.Pattammal,was conferred with the title “Isai Jothi” by Dr.Vyjantimala B a l i , e m i n e n t bharathanatyam exponent on the occasion of the valedictory function of Gana Saraswathi D.K.Patammal`s 91st Birth Anniversary Celebrations held on March 12. Aaanmajothi Natarajan, Krishnamoorthy, chairman, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan and Murali, managing director, Sree Krishna Sweets graced the occasion and felicitated Vijay Siva. Dr.Vyjanthimala Bali recollected her relationship with DKP, who
was a mother, guru and deivam to her and said that she considered it a boon to undergo vocal training from DKP. She appreciated Vijay Siva`s talent and said that he is the only vidwan to maintain the DKP style, diction of sahithyam and r a s a n u b h a v a m . Vinisha Kathiravan recently performed her arangetram at the Chinmaya Heritage Centre. Vinisha, a class seven student of Chinmaya Vidyalaya and a disciple of Urmila Sathyanarayan, kept the audience amused with her soulful recital throughout. She began her concert with a Pushpanjali composed b y D r M Balamuralikrishna in a traditional way. This was followed by alarippu. The jathiswaram set by Tanjore Quartet was followed by a varnam. And the varnam, B h a v a y a m i Raghuramam, a Swathi Tirunal composition, brought out the best of the artiste. Just like diamond dazzles after polishing by an expert, Vinisha gleamed like a diamond after being trained under the renowned guru. And what took the performance to a completely different level was her complete
involvement. With commendable stamina, the young girl carried out the varnam in a brilliant way. And the audience witnessed some glowing
moments, when she portrayed Mandara poisoning the minds of Kaikeyi and also when she enacted Hanuman’s
meeting with Sita at the Asoka vanam to hand over the ring given by Rama to her. Be it the episode of Ramayana war or the Pattabshishekam, it seemed safe in the artiste’s hand and her guru’s focus on detailing the minute aspects is laudable. After an elaborate varnam, the young Vinisha proved that she can turn out to be the mischievous Krishna within seconds and she danced to the Mayya Mouri bhajan by Surdas. The thillana, another composition by Dr Balamuralikrishna in raga Brindavani showcased her potential by way of neat and intricate footwork. And the chief guests, musician Dr M Balamuralikrishna, d a n s e u s e D r Vyjayanthimala Bali and playback singer S Janaki praised the child and the guru to their hearts content. The concluding item was a kurathi dance. However, Vinisha’s folk dance too resembled a bharathanatyam recital probably due to her long practice sessions of the classical format. While Urmila Sathyanaryanan handled the nattuvangam, Swamimali S K Suresh supported the artiste with good vocal support. M Dhananjayan on the m r i d a n g a m , R Sathishkumar on the violin and T Sashidhar on the flute wholeheartedly supported the dancer.
Devaram, sung by Vijay Siva was released by Krishnamoorthy and the first copy was received by Murali. The second CD namely Janaranjakam sung by Vijay Siva was r e l e a s e d b y Dr.Vyjayanthimala Bali and the first copy was received by Krishnamurthy. The function was followed by Vijay Siva`s vocal concert with support by R.K.Shriramkumar on the violin and J.Vaidyanathan on the mrudangam, which recreated the magic of D K P ` s d i c t i o n , sahithyanubhavam, sangeethanubhavam and rasanubhavam.
