Swine flu and diabetes Librarians' Day observed

My parents are diabetes patients. I am feeling very tired always. Do I need to go for diabetes check and how should I go about it? Yes, this gentle man should undergo diabetes test. In more than 50% of people suffering with diabetes, there will not be any symptoms at all. The classical symptoms of diabetes are increased urination, increased thirst, increased appetite and weight loss. But these symptoms are not the only symptoms. Most of the persons with diabetes will have atypical symptoms like tiredness, generalised body pain, body itching, redness over private parts and numbness over legs. Many patients are detected as having diabetes either in master health checkups or while investigating for some other illness. Diabetes is detected with the help of Glucose Tolerance Test (GTT). After an overnight fast for 8-13 hrs, persons are administered 75 grams of oral glucose. Blood samples are taken at fasting, one hour after ingesting glucose and second hour after ingesting glucose. The person should not take any other food during the test. What are the normal blood sugar values in GTT? As per American Diabetes Association guidelines, fasting blood sugar less than 100mg/dl and 2hrs post glucose less than 140mg/dl are considered as normal values. Fasting blood sugar more than 126mg/dl and 2hr post glucose more than 200 mg/dl are considered as person having diabetes. Any range of blood sugar in between these two is considered as pre-diabetes. Celebrating the spirit of Independence Jawahar Vidyalaya, Ashok Nagar

The Independence Day was celebrated in high spirits at the premises of Jawahar Vidyalaya Senior Secondary School. Students were bursting with excitement, patriotism and had the tri coloured flags pinned on to their neatly ironed uniforms. The chief guest was Mr. Arul, an assistant judge at the Madras High Court. The episode Ksheera sagara Madhanam was presented with dramatised narration. Mysore Lingaraja`s Srungaara lahari in Neelambaram set to Adi was a good example for danseuse talent and abhinaya aspect. She concluded the presentation with Lalgudi Jayaraman`s Desh raga thillana with rhythmic foot work. Satheesh Kumar on violin and K.Parthasarathy on mridangam gave a very good support. - Sharma
