I am 62-years-old and having diabetes for the past 22 years. I am taking insulin and oral drugs for diabetes. When will be oral insulin available to us? This is one of the common questions which is being asked by several diabetes patients. An Indian bio-tech & pharmaceutical company is doing research and development in oral insulin. Insulin is a protein hormone. Once insulin is taken by oral method, it will be destroyed by our normal gastric acids. So as to avoid insulin destruction and enhance the insulin secretion in the gut, bio-tech modified insulin is needed. Oral insulin manufactured by an Indian company is under phase III trial. Once it completes phase IV trial, oral insulin will be made available in the market. Hope soon we will be able to get oral insulin. At present injectable insulin is the best drug available for diabetes management. Since diabetes manifest due to lack of insulin secretion or action or both, administering insulin is the best treatment option for diabetes patients. By insulin injections, we are replacing insulin, which the diabetes people do not have in adequate quantities.

Extending a helping hand

Love your fellow men Breathes there a man ,with a soul so dead , Who to himself has never said , this… This is my own ..my native land…..” Yes ! The last week of January is synonymous with the spirit of patriotism in our country. The Republic Day and January 30 reminding us of the “Matchless Mahathma”. But then patriotism does not end with loving your country ; loving your country men is an important aspect of this perception; No; the concept doesn’t end here too !:

patriotism ,in the real sense of the word , zeros down to sympathy for the needy, service to the helpless, compassion for the downtrodden, concern for the deprived living around you.It is with these doctrines in mind that the members of S .W. Kalwit Memorial Foundation (S.W. K. M. F.), have been operating all these years; it has donated a boat to the t sunami victims in the Chengalpet district; another time it handed over a Braille typewriter to a visually handicapped institute at Chittardurga and this year, on January 24 the

organisation handed over a cheque for Rs 25,000 to “ Ashrai Dham”, a shelter for children functioning at Bagalkot in Karnataka. A home for about 30 homeless children , Ashraya Dham has been doing yeomen service to the less fortunate but lovely children of God, by providing them food, shelter, education and healthcare. With the help of the efficient and enthusiastic development officers of the region, Nagaraj Jade, vicechairman and Nazir Kittur, general secretary of S.W.K. Memorial Foundation, the

foundation had chosen Ashraya Dham to handover some funds at a simple function towards the welfare of the kids. G.V.S. Mani , chairman S.W. K. M. F. p r e s i d e d o v e r t h e proceedings . I take this opportunity to thank the Foundation, for giving me the privilege of handing over the cheque to the volunteers. I’m sure that this is just the beginning of big events to happen and the magic of the name of the one and only Kalwit will make the little drops swell like the mighty waters of the river Krishna and will certainly usher in a saga of hope and happiness , peace, and prosperity for the wonderful seeds of tomorrow’s Bharath !
