Winners of Placement Challenge receive placement offer I was detected a diabetic two weeks ago, while doing a master health check up. My family doctor has suggested me some diabetes drugs to take. I am continuing that medicines. How long do I have to take these medicines? Do I have to consume them life long? First of all, you should know some basics about diabetes. Diabetes is a state, where you have less insulin secretion from your pancreas or less insulin action in your body or both. The process of diabetes initiation will begin four to six years before the onset of diabetes. At the time of detection, most of diabetes patients have about 50% insulin secreting cells in their pancreas. Further two to four percent of insulin secreting cells will get destroyed every year after the onset of diabetes. What is important is that we have to maintain the existing insulin secreting cells in our body, throughout our life. If we exist all these insulin secreting cells, we will have to depend on injectable form of insulin only. As of now, we do not have any drugs to increase the insulin secreting cells by a significant amount. To maintain our insulin secreting cells in our body, diabetic patients should continue regular diet plan and physical activity throughout their life. If you are able to maintain your insulin secreting cells in a significant amount, you do not need to continue the diabetes drugs. Some diabetes drugs will exhaust these insulin secreting cells and lead on to early insulin dependency. Some drugs will maintain and enhance the insulin secreting capacity in the pancreas. So it is always advisable to control diabetes with a good diet plan and physical activity. It is advisable to use insulin maintaining drugs only if needed.

Mesmerising mandolin

Disciple of mandolin maestros U.Srinivas and U. Rajesh and up coming musician S.Aravind Bhargav presented a mesmerising mandolin concert on behalf of Perambur Sangeetha Sabha at Sankaralayam on the occasion of the sabha‘s chittirai isai vizha . He commenced his concert with a varnam Sami Ninne in Sree ragam set to Adi talam with swaram. He could prove himself in his initial stage itself. He proceeded with Mahaganapathim in Nattai set to adi, a composition of Muthuswamy Dikshithar with alapana and swaram. His body language and mannerism reflected his gurus’ style. The flow in the alapana of Bindumalini was good. The tempo and clarity were commendable. He could score good response from rasikas for Entha Muddo Entha sogaso

of Saint Thiagaraja. The sthai sancharas and swara presentation stood as highlights of the programme. The support received from rasikas forced him to present Raghu Vamsa Sudha of Patnam Subramania Iyyer in Kadanakuthuhalam ragam and Bhargav was able to satisfy the senior citizens with his presentation of the song. Presenting the concert with a pleasant dispositions throughout and appreciating the supporting artist’s talent and encouraging them are good symptoms to become a successful artist. The rasikas, however felt that the artist should have managed his time efficiently. Bharghav selected Shanmugapriya raga to do the RTP with pallavi “ “Thirumalaivasa Govinda Un Padaame Saranam”. A detailed

alapana of Shanmugapriya and thanam by Bhargav and the violinist created a good impression in the minds of senior vidwans who were present there. The fluency shown in kalpana swara pattern was highly commendable. The innovative dimensions during kalpana swara mesmerized the audience. He concluded with Chandrasekara , a composition of Aanayam Vaidyanatha Bhagavathar in Sindhubhairavi. He is the son of Gnanaprasoona, disciple of Dr.M. Balamuralikrishna and grand son of N.M.Lakshmi, a veena artist. Bhargav was accompanied by Pakala Jayaprakash on the violin and Guru Raghavendra on the mrudangam and Harihara Subramanian on the ghatam . The accompanying vidwans too proved their mettle.
