This weekend, the 2005 VAFA season draws to a close, with the A and B Section Grand Finals at Sportscover Arena ,
and the promise of great games on both Saturday and Sunday . Congratulations to those clubs which have already won premierships, and commiserations to those who missed out in 2005. While I am generally reluctant to mention individual clubs, it is of significance to note the fact that several "district" clubs appear to be on the rise . Beaumaris is back in B Grade, and Fitzroy Reds and Ormond have advanced to C Grade . These clubs have excellent, forward thinking administrations, and we hope that they can continue their progress . Congratulations also to Uni Blacks on winning back-to-back flags . Can they make it three in a row, and achieve a place in A Grade in 2007?
From the VAFA's point of view, the 2005 season has been a great success . The standard of football in all the grades continues to improve . We have been able to provide two umpires for nearly all our games, with umpire numbers (and therefore umpiring standards) significantly higher. I would thank (and congratulate) Brian Goodman for his efforts in his first year as our Umpire Operations Manager. I would also thank the members of the VAFA Executive, and in particular Chairman Nick Bourke, for their work. As with all our clubs, the Association is dependent :)n many people giving of their tir1 efforts, and I would thank all those at in the hours week in, week out, "f the love of the game" .
I would also thank our hardworking staff for their efforts during the 2005 season . There is no doubt that their dedication to Amateur football has contributed significantly to the successful and enjoyable season that we have had .
On 27 September, the All Australian To the clubs participating in Gi . id Amateur Under 23 team leaves for Finals, and to the umpires v•'o '.l Ireland, and will play four games of officiate in them, the best of lucl . I__. International Rules . There are nine VAFA no doubt that we will see great footb-11 . representatives in the team . We see this as a great innovation for our (and SA and Bruce McTaggart WA amateur players), as it provides a President focus and incentive for our younger VAFA players to achieve at the highest level . We are hopeful that the Ireland trip will become a regular occurrence .

of the competition must go to the General Manager of Football Operations, Brett Connell, who has overseen the competition . It was with mixed feelings that we received Brett's resignation from the VAFA . He has been an incrediblv diligent worker for 12 years progressing from administration assistant to his current position . On behalf of the Executive, staff and all the VAFA community, I congratulate Brett on his exceptional work and wish him every success in his new position at the VCFL . One of the key responsibilities of the VAFA is to supply proficient umpires to all sections . We are very proud of the fact that nearly all VAFA matches were conducted with 2 field umpires and much of this is due to the hard work of operations manager, Brian Goodman . Whilst other competitions are floundering in this department we are getting stronger . I have no doubt that we have the best umpires in community football in Australia . One of the more controversial inclusions this year has been the front page editorial by Jonathon Horn . We endeavoured to make that page more interesting to all readers of the Amateur Footballer and not be an administrative page . We are very pleased with the response to Jonathon's articles as many of them are controversial and instill much debate . Finally, thanks to all the VAFA people who have supported me in my first year as the CEO from the Executive members, staff, (namely Sue Anderson, Kate Balme, Adam Clemente, Peter Harris, Tony O'Callghan, Cliff Bastow & Nancy McTaggart) and all of the clubs . Good luck to the teams competing today, congratulations to the teams who have already won premierships or gained promotion and well done to all 7 1 VAFA clubs .

Old Xavs - Can it be done? Unless vou're affiliated with the Ol d Xaverians, the name Kevin O'Shaughness y probably doesn't mean that much to you . He's the guy who guided the Xavier Colleg e school side to consecutive premierships dating back to the invention of the wheel . Later, he moved on to an executive role at the Old Xaverians and helped oversee their reign of flags in A Section . As the boys in Red & Black face their stiffest test to date, it's worth considering just what O'Shaughnessy and Old Xavs players in general are capable of . You only have to look at last week's extraordinary win over Haileybury to realise that this is a side you write off at your peril . The majority of their players played under what the Xavs website calls the "sage like guidance of the Yoda of the APS" (O'Shaughnessy) at Xavier and know what it takes to rack up premierships . Ford, Ockleshaw, Woodruff, Lynch, Purss, Beetham and many others went to Xavier and play that brand of football which characterises their school sides, their Old Boys sides and even the blokes who kick onto AFL . Set your game around a dominant ruckman . Flick the ball out to your key runner out the back of the pack . Chuck a couple of guns on a back flank and give them a license to run . Make sure your players get in the grVrn and are physically bigger than the opposition . Protect your gun on-ballers with blocks . And discipline . Xavier sides are always disciplined . One up one down, punch from behind, don't get sucked in, don't lairise . Simple stuff, but it makes a difference . More than anything, they know how to win finals and prove everyone wrong . In 1996, I played against them when they had won just two from eleven and were staring relegation square in the face . Dom Berry swaggered onto the field looking like Marlon Brando . We thought they were a complete and utter joke .
4
Two months later, they were premiers . In at least three of their Grand Final wins, they went in as underdog s while many of their key finals victories have been upsets . Of course . several of the stars of this side didn't go to the school at all . They have picked up three absolute gems from Ballarat : Tim Clarke, Travis Ruyg and Mike Beardsley . Anthony McDonald, who is probably the inform player in the competition at the moment, is himself from the famous breeding ground of St Pats Ballarat and returned to the Xavs after a successful career at Melbourne . Adam Chatfield came via Geelong and Pennant Hills in NSW . Justin Arnold crossed over from the Diamond Vallev . Simon Lethlean from Camberwell Grammar . But they all play that familiar brand of football .
ai7'I can save the Xavs . "

But Xavs, we have a problem . . . Could I talk up the Xavs any more?! Well, it's time to execute a Crazy Ivan, shift course and introduce the team in the Blue corner . Everyone I've spoken to this week, many of whom have been watching Amateur football for decades, say Uni Blues are the best VAFA side they have ever seen . You certainly wouldn't know it by looking at them . Most of their players look like the sort of guys you'd sit next to in a Uni lecture hall, en route to Naughton 's for a couple of Aamir Sohails . And they are pretty much unknown outside amateur circles ; while Xavs have almost a dozen players who have been on AFL or VFL lists, the Blues are decidedly more low key . Ross Young, their star of 2004, crossed over from playing social footy for the Uni colleges . Mark Paterson, their star of 2005, was coaxed into joining the club by a mate who used to pump weights with him at the Melbourne Uni gym . They have a deliberate policy of not playing ex AFL players . They barely have a player over 6 foot . Their coach sits in the box cracking gags . Only when they run the length of the field with a chain of a dozen handballs does it hit home just how good this team is .
O'Clouds Unfold! Only rain can save the Xavs . Mike Larkam from Channel 10 (in a chicken suit I believe) and Dermott Brereton from the Today program (words fail me Derm) have both been down to Sportscover Arena during the week and forecast rain for Sunday . If it pelts down and the ground turns into a quagmire, Uni's runners will be bogged down and Xavs will turn it into a war of attrition . If it's dry, write your own ticket . Any other year, against any other team, I would go for the Xaverians . But against the Blues? You've gotta be kidding me : Uni By 75 points . Jonathan H orn 0 THE AMATEUR FOOTBALLER 2005

:W Saturday September 17 has arrived as De La e travel to Sportscove r : and old Iva nh o Arena to clash in the final B Section Game of . Both have had excellent seasons and 2005 fully deserve to be here as the go in search of the holy grail and the ultimate result a premiership .
Having done the club thing in the past fortnight and earned promotion today's Grand Final is now for the players to go out and enjoy the moment and bring home the spoils for themselves and their loyal band of supporters . It's like the clash of the Titans the younger little rabbits of DLS up against he older Bi g

The Hoers totally dominated the third luarter kicking 6 goals where as the Toi could not trouble the nran with the cos . Brad Thompson was doing a ific job shutting down the dangerous Da- .aul Dawes and tvzth good assistance from Simon Kefa- s an almost and Chanz Crc ile y they led impenetrabi- {' . •' ice . so that a 7 goal buffer : o certainly had the I-loers at orange t ; ; primed for one i r crack at DLS . The first 10 rn` es of the last totally snuffed out any chances the Tonners may have had as goals to Payne, Russian, Lrxxon and then Branigan's 6th put the game beyond dispute, and the remainder of the game saw a couple of consolation goals to OBS as the Hoers Look F_ -= = looAng ;o the the foot off the p< ne--t week .

Joint Coaches ; Gerard Shelly and Mark Lowe struggle in the second semi final with Li-e Blue and Golds finishing all over the top o" their opponents who must still be ruing their inaccuracy . Buoyed by the week's rest the DLS boys will certainly be refreshed and will come out ready to play . But Amateur Football provides many twists and turns and sometimes in a three week finals series it is the side who plays every week that is able to eke out some form of advantage . The Hoers would have learnt some lessons from their loss a fortnight ago and certainly won't let DLS have as much latitude up forward as before, and if they are to win the y
have to play tight man on man football to stop De La Salle being able to burrow in an . dgethirunamog Healthy respect here for them both but unfortunatey there can only be one winne r and in an against the selection grain tip I tip Old Ivanhoe to reverse the result of a fortnight ago and take the title . Good luck to all participating .
As I put my pen t. .va;- aft- another season I would sincerely like to thank Don Dowell . Andy Mullett Matt Clinch and Nick Parry for their detailed analysis of their games each and every week it certainly made my job much easier . To all the others who contributed intermittently my thanks to you as well . Look forward to returning yet again in 2006 .
''TEAM O F THE YEAR Very hard side to pick this year with so many players having outstanding seasons . To those who have missed out please accept my apologies but I can't fit you all in . Have been fair and have made sure that each side in the Section has at least one representative . THE AMATEUR FOOTBALLER 2005

across the forward zone whilst Purcell and Goonan were miserly down back, not giving their opponents any opportunity to work into the game . The crowd was being dazzled not only on the ground, but also above it, as jags of lightning and massive thunderclaps echoed around the stadium . Much of the crowd sought refuge from the downpour and even more were sent scurrying as hale stones began to tumble . For the third successive quarter, Beauy could only manage two goals one as Uni stamped their authority, bagging seven big ones . From the "it could only happen in Melbourne file" the last term began in beautiful sunshine and the Uni players whilst tired, savoured every moment . The Sharks Haynes continued to wrack up stats and McNicholas and Heath fought on, but this was ultimately a losing battle . Across the ground Anthony Parkin's charges had all the answers and with Shaw and Bevacqua rounding off excellent games, the Blacks emphatic 79 point winning margin attested to their wonderful season and continued their charge back towards A section honours . The Michael Ritterman medal for the best player on the ground could have gone to any number of Uni players, Matt Kempton was a very worthy recipient . Congratulations to Beauy also on a terrific year and they will be hoping along with Blacks to ruffle a few B Grade sides feathers, next year. Good Luck . Led by Tim Davis & Conor Dullard, the Reds entire defence gave the Monds forwards no leeway at all in their scoring sector, nor was the Monds flying squad ever able to wreak their usual havoc round the ground . Both sides actually handled the change from dry to slippery conditions mid-game very professionally, but even so the Reds adapted better as they inexorably increased their lead right up until the final siren . Both our 2005 D1 Grand Finalists will be competitive in C Section and we look forward to watching their progress! The outstz ic`.n team for the entire year, c-'. mc .nories, but the Geelong withs od a third quarter challenge sour taste of a Grand Final defea t from Rupertswood before kicking away in the final quarter for their fifth premiership i n should not take away from the achievement of climbing two grades in two season . the club's 51-year history . Apart from their loss in round 10 to Williamstown, only Peninsula had got to within four goals of the dominant Ogs al l season before the Woods gave them the fright of their lives, succumbing by 21 points . Inaccurate kicking marred the first quarter, the Ogs holding a narrow lead at the first break before piling on three goals to one in the second term for a handy 20-point buffer at ilie long break .
R eserves The Oggery was the place to be on Sunday afternoon, the club having completed the senior double by taking out the twos premiership as well . Tekka Verge's undefeated team were never threatened against La Trobe, conceding just two goals in three quarters on their way to a 33point triumph .
2005 SEASON REVIEW
But the Ioods, beaten in the D3 Grand Final by Oakleigh last year, refused to lay down, kicking three goals to draw within five points at the final change . Despite being unchallenged for much of the year, the Ogs dug deep in the final term, kicking three clutch goals to ice a premiership which many had thought a fait accompli midway through the season . Club champion Jamie Bell capped off a brilliant season, earning best-on-ground honours from the Ogs hierarchy but the Anthony Fellows Medallist was awarded to Steve Lansdell .
The premiership ended a 15-year drought for the Ogs, but the challenge is now on for the club to taste success as they climb through the ranks . Meanwhile, Rupertswood will have to go through another sui_ mer with mixed

As was the expectation of many followers of D2, Old Geelong took the flag and promotion to D1 at the second time of asking, after finishing third in 2004 . Perhaps the extra year in D2 was a blessing in disguise as, apart from dropping a game to Williamstown CYMS, and holding off a persistent Rupertswood in the Grand Final, they were the bes t

team in this grade by some margin, and should go on and do well in the higher grade next season . Rupertswood continued their upward momentum with another promotion . Unfortunately, it was another defeat in the showpiece occasion of the season (after losing the 2004 D3 Grand Final to Oakleigh), and it will be interesting to see how Rupo handle another step up . However, I think consolidation will be an attainable target at this level for 2006 . After a slow start, perhaps still coming to terms with relegation from DI, E' eninsul<_ t Boys found momentum a month into the season and were amongst the more impressive performers in D2 from then on . They must be close to premiership favourites next year, and I wouldn't be surprised if their form in 2006 mirrored that of Old Geelong in 2005 . Williamstown GYMS were the best of the rest in 2005 . They will look to at least match that effort in 2006, but certainly won't have it all their own way .
Swinburne University, who despite enduring lean seasons on the field never failed to file reports . Without the loyalty and support of correspondents, this column would be very thin on content . u & Pet
2004 D3 Premiers Oakleigh and LaTrobe University were both still chances of pinching fourth spot in the final weeks of the season but were ultimately unable to last the distance . They will be looking for greater consistency next season . Salesian Old Collegians were really neither here nor there for the majority of 2005 after dropping down from DI . They showed more consistency and quality for a large part of the second half of 2005, and this will hopefully bode well next season . Ivanhoe Assumption and Bentleigh fought it out to avoid the dreaded ninth position, and early on, Bentleigh appeared to have the edge . The second half of the Hoes season provides some encouragement for next year, while it's back to D3 for Bentleigh, who never really made an impact in D2, but should contend for D3 finals in 2006 .
Finally, Swinburne University were never in the hunt, losing all eighteen matches . It doesn't look promising at this early stage, but they have all summer to turn it around . Correspondents Special thanks to all correspondents for their input throughout the season, especially to Ivanhoe Assumption and

Huge interest in the A Section Grand Final with Old :c~averiaras earning the right of another crack at St Bernards, their nemesis from the second semi-final . Opposing coaches, Tim O'Shaughnessy (Xavs) and Gary Foulds (St Bernards), had every right to be confident in their respective line-ups . Mark Gibson and Tim Sutcliffe were the field umpires in the big game . Old Xaverians' reserves won the early game and gave th e massive Xavs crowd that ext ra bit of impetus as they accepted the Noel Rundle Premiership Cup before the start of the main game . After an even first quarter, 5 .3 to 5 .0 in Xavs' favour, the lead was increased slightly at half time, 9 .6 to 8 .2 . St Bernards were great in the third term and slammed on 7 goals to 3 to hold a handy lead, 15 .3 to 12 .8, before the Xavs machine responded magnificently in the final term with 10 goals to run out easy winners 22 .14 to 16 .5 . Their sixth successive premiership had been achieved, an outstanding performance by the leading VAFA club . Best players ; Jones (3) . Cranage, Ford, Sassi, Blood, Landrigan, Richardson (5) for Xavs and D Byrne (5), Wilkinson, Joe Mount, L Gollant, Perrett, N Mitchell for St Bernards . The premiership team lined-up as follows B : A Dillon A Brushfield D Landrigan HB : D Orlando A Gowers J Hawkin s C : L Ford B Cranage J Bowen HF: C Ellis A Jones T Fleming
F : S Lethlean D Richardson J Kay R: M Blood A Sassi R Dillon I/O : L Deane-Johns T Gordon A McQueen-Parto n
Andrew Dillon, Daniel Richardson, John Bowen and Michael Blood had the distinction of playing in the six successive premierships and all were outstanding ambassadors for amateur football . Wayne Hinton and Jamie Kvins were the controlling umpires in the B Section premiership game between Old Brighton and Mazenod, coached respectively by Dale Tapping and David Murray . Old Brighton
reserves defeated De La Salle to take out the J F X Dillo . It was a n nCup
excellent mai ngamewit h Mazenod kickin g 7 .2 to Brighton's 2 .6 in the first term . Brighton could not bridge the gap in the second term but their third quarter was much better and by the final break only trailed by 2 points . In a ripping final term it was goal for goal for a while but Mazenod held on 17 .7 to 14 .18 . Best players ; Pickering, Tucker, McIntyre, Harrison (4), Kavanagh (4), Nelson (Mazenod) and Nickas, Lennox, Tvmms, Rickarby, Barrow, Perry (Brighton) . Mazenod lined-up as follows B : D Rvan P Nelson S Polan

Hazeldine, Meade, Polkinghorne, B Blood (Uni Blues). Michael Blood (Xavs) was the Jock Nelson medallist for "best on ground" .
Old Haileybury's great season in B Section culminated in their 9 .13 to 6 .9 victory over Mazenod but the game was not a run-away victory for Haileybury. Constant, light rain throughout the day may have partly created the closeness of the contest with the scores level at three quarter time . Haileybury's class showed out in the last term with their 4 .2 to 0 .2 securing the J V Deane Cup for only the second time in the club's history . Best players ; D Seccull, Rae, Morey, RalphSmith, G Phillips, Constable (Haileybury )

by Steve McCarthy & Leah Gallaghe r The fat lady sings IT'S OOOOOVERRR!!!!! Finally we have
come to the end of an odyssey that commenced in February or for some late last year . This weekend we can sit back and watch the best go around and dream of the possibilities . No more of Rob Sneddon's training (thank God!) and Rob there were times we ran inside the cones just to see if you were looking and when we were caught out, the 400's were justice . Thanks for a great training program Rob ! Gone is the number crunching, we have all slotted into our respected positions and being angry will not change a thing . Look forward to 2006 to prove them wrong ! Spiderman A huge thank you to our resident Webmaster, Mr. Tim Sutcliffe . Tim has done a sensational job in not only rebuilding the VAFAUA website, but maintaining it and keeping us all up to date with all the latest goings-on in the world of VAFA umpiring . A fantastic effort Tim, all your hard work is much appreciated by the members . Also Tim, well done on making it through to the last weekend of the season . We're sure you'll put in a big one . You can post it on the website next week! Check out Tim's great work at www .vafaua .asn .au

What a great game was turned on b y Elsternwick and St . Mary's! A hint of a walkover was evident early but to th e Saints credit, they stuck with the task a n served up to the highly fancied Wicks . Loss of a game, but no loss of face . Threats of the odd downpour but no wind greeted the sides on Saturday . The highly fancied Elsternwick hit the ground running and but for some inaccurate kicking may well have run away with the game early . Byrne was proving the danger man up forward for the Wicks whilst Grillo was providing plenty of drive of the half back flank for the Saints . A couple of against the flow goals late for the Saints saw it tight at the first break . The evenness continued in the second quarter as goals were traded . A heavy knock to Kodituwaku proved pivotal as he was doing a fine blanketing job on the dangerous Grace . A freed up Grace slammed on some goals whilst the runners of the Wicks, notably Bedingfield, C Mahony and Curtain began clicking into gear. Five unanswered goals saw the lead get out to 31 points before a late Saints goal reduced the lead to 25 points at the main break . The general consensus was that the Wicks were starting to exert their authority and would be hard to match from here . A send off and the resultant goal in the first few minutes of the third term saw the well proportioned lady running through her scales however the Saints had other ideas . With C Armstrong winning every ball out of the centre, Wright barging his way through packs and Crilly winning the ball at will across half forward, the Saints

Had the Saints run their race? Would the black and red machine click into gear? Despite conceding the first goal, the Saints continued to press . The men of the hour proved to be Mason and Thiele down back, who constantly thwarted the Saints attack . A snap from C Armstrong grazed the post whilst fittingly Byrne slotted the winner for the Wicks . Ultimately, a deserved victory for the side best performed for the year . No doubt the crew at St . Mary's wouldn't be consoled by an honourable loss however the fact is they didn't die wondering and gave everything they had . Section On e Marcellin secured their first Section On e flag in fifteen years last weekend, cruising to a 61 point win over a gallant Collegians side . Dominating from the outset the Eagles were unstoppable in the opening term, the minor premiers slamming on 4 .8 to just 0 .3 despite the absence of sinbinned ruckman Mark McKasker . Jason Crapper was simply brilliant on the wing in the first quarter, racking up a more than a dozen touches while regularly transferring the ball from the defensive to attacking fifty . Daniel Considine and Jake Symes were also in season-best form, both players resolute in defence shutting down a number of Collegians chances on goal . McKasker returned to the field for the start of the second term, but it was Collegians who started the better of the sides kicking two goals in the opening four minutes . However Marcellin soon stepped up a gear responding with six of the next seven to set up a 52 point half-time lead . McKasker was a tower of strength in the second term, marking everything, while showing great skill and athleticism to score a left foot blinder from deep in the pocket . Matt Turner and the athletic James Winstanley were also prolific across the half-forward line, teaming up nicely with the on ball brigade led by Peter Augustin and Simon Abrahams .
Down by more than eight goals at the long break Mick Jones asked for a big quarter from the boys in purple and gold, and the reigning Section Two premiers responded with three of the first four goals in the third term . However just as Collegians started to look like faint premiership contenders, Marcellin slotted through the last three of the quarter to put the result beyond doubt . Slamming on five goals to two in the final term Marcellin confirmed their dominance of Section One cruising to a ten-goal win in convincing fashion . Tim Montagna showed great dash from half-back to set
up another six-pointe r late in the 1 quarter, whil e
Rob Tabacchiera and 'Bluey' McGli . picked up plenty of the ball through th middle of the ground . James Winstanle was fittingly awarded the Alex Johnso ; medal for best on ground, as Dean Rossel held the JS McCann Cup aloft for the firs time in his coaching career .

never gave an inch and performed to their utmost when it counted . In the final analysis, Rupertswood gave Banyule too much latitude in the second term, when Tsingaris started to find plenty of the pill courtesy of ShepardMueller, Drapac and Skicko . Phillips was a deserving winner of the medal for BOG, despite falling on the losing side of the ledger . He was ably supported by Baddeley, Anderson and Harrison (who kicked 4 goals) . With a 4 goal lead at the final change, the Bears simply had to tough it out against the inevitable Rupo onslaught, and this they did, earning the most satisfying win on the most important day of the year . With both sides feeding their D Grade seniors next year, I'd expect a fair few of these boys to face-off again in the senior ranks in season 2006 .
Section 3 Grand Final Review Old Paradians - v- Oakleigh As expected, the opening stanza commenced at a blistering pace with both sides throwing their weight around which resulted in some bone jarring clashes . The pressure applied by both sides was relentless and the skills displayed by both sides was well appreciated by the large crowd . Rob Thomas was never going to Be Lonely at CHF for Parade, the subject of some close attention by the opposition, his endeavour and attack at the football netted him with 3 valuable goals and the Peter Harris medal . He was more than well supported by Soloman who was a focal point of attack for the whole game, in which he bagged 6 big ones . Pound-Gow rucked tirelessly for the vanquished, but was no match for Matko and Kruezer, who both dominated around the ground with telling marks .
Oakeigh refused to give up the chase and came back hard in the last quarter, with MacKenzie, Cleary and Edwards working hard up forward to present for their teammates ensuring they finished the game right to the end . Overall, the Raiders running game, together with their tenacity and determination netted the team back to back premierships, which was a great result for the players and club .
Section Blue Grand Final Review Ormond - v - Mazenod Due to injuries and a need to reverse the second semi result, Mazenod set up very differently and put in their most consistent intense effort of the season in the most important game of the year . With their key position players shuffled, Bayliss (FB), Duke (CHB) and Regan (FF) had new challenges which they relished . Mazenod played free running, hard tackling, team football and well deserved their lead at the final change . With a few key changes of personnel, the Monders hit the park and gathered momentum . Bailey, Barnes, Brosnan and Upstill started to have a greater impact . After being overpowered in the last three games a desperate Mazenod had held the ascendancy until the 20 minute mark. Their fierce tackling had stopped Ormond from getting their running game going, yet the dangerous Rob Chisholm, who would ultimately receive the John Simpson medal, kept his side in touch with goals in each quarter . When Ormond hit back in the last quarter they got to 9 points in front and again Mazenod came back to 3 points, continuing to attack and were extremely unlucky not to have got one of four thrusts through the goals before the siren blew . For the vanquished, a feeling of devastation was clear but they exceeded everyone's expectations bar their own . Bogar booted 6 goals, whilst Crameri, Bonner and Duke were simply tireless in their efforts . Section Red
Emmaus St Leos confirmed their pre-match favoritism last weekend with a crushing 86 point win over Kew in the Section Red Grand Final . The club's second under-nineteen flag in the past six years, The Animals were far too strong from the outset and never looked challenged . Kicking six goals to one in a dominant opening term, Emmaus looked fresh from their week off and showed no ill-effects from a fortnight without competitive football . After just scraping home against Kew in the second semi-final two weeks earlier, Emmaus looked intent on proving their status as the competition's best side as they outclassed their opposition in all areas of the ground . continued page 50 0-

from page 49 Baranello, Brayshaw and Stafford were all impressive in the second, and after dominating for two quarters of football the minor premiers went into the long break with a 51-point lead . Emmaus coach Ben Pilley asked for a big last half of football, for the boys to maintain 100% effort . 100% of the time, and his chargers duly responded . Slamming home another four goals to one in the premiership quarter the match was all but won at the final change, before anothe r
