Coburg's sound win over St . Bernard's Parade too strong for North Old Boys Four leaders beaten - Parkside Juniors only unconquered team By GEORGE MeTAGGART Coburg and Old Paradians scored sound wins over St . Bernard's and North Old Boys respectively in the main games of last week's round, but' there was no change in the top four. Parade, Geelong and North still have a chance of breaking into the top bracket, but their prospects cannot be considered b right. Four leading teams were beaten - Fawkner, North Brunswick, Ormond Reserves and Marcellin Reserves, and all but Marcellin lost top place . It was Marcellin's first defeat, and now only one team of the 135 competing remains unbeaten - Parkside Juniors. Coburg's ability to adapt themselves to the windy conditions was a big factor in their win . Another was the fact that they held St . Bernards to 2 points with the wind in the second auarter, while Coburg kicked 2 goals against it . This put Coburg in a strong position at the, interval when they led by 38 points . The second half was much more even with Coburg kicking 6 goals in the third term and St. Bernard's 4 in the last but the damage had been done and Coburg won by 8 goals . North Old Boys lacked the determination and will-to-win of Paradians, who scored by 34 points . Parade looked the better side all day although they led by only 11 points at half-time . They drew away to a comfortable lead of 27 points at three-quartertime and although North had plenty of chances in the last term, their kicking was, astray and they managed only one goal from nine scoring shots while Parade kicked 3-3 to win well . Ormond showed the form which has taken them to the top of the lad-
der by disposing of Reservoir Old Boys to the tune of 46 points . The first half was even with Reservoir only 8 points down but Ormond increased their lead to 21 points at the last change and came home strongly to win easily . Geelong struck trouble against Caulfield Grammarians who were 7 points in front at half-time, and it was only in the last few minutes that Geelong cut loose with a finishing burst that gave them a 23-point win . University Blacks had no trouble in scoring an easy win over University Blues . They held the Blues to a 3-point lead with the wind in the first term then raced away with 8 goals in the second and kicked another 9 goals in the last for good measure . Collegians kept themselves in the running for the four with a win over Ivanhoe by 9 points, but De La Salle's hopes received something of a setback when they went down to Old Trinity by 25 points . Kew broke a long string of defeats when they beat Power House by 27 points . Monash Blues were not troubled by Old Carey and Old Scotch thrashed Melbourne High .

Uni . High's accurate kicking was a big factor in their surprise win over Alphington . They won by 5 points and knocked Alphington out of the four . Marcellin's recent form has been patchy but they handed out a 45point defeat to Parkside (11-18 to 6-3) . Old Brighton who scored a big win over Old Melburnians took Aiphington's place in the four . Brunswick scraped home by only a point from Old Ivanhoe and State Savings Bank beat Old Xaverians by more than 7 goals in a high-scoring game. Old Geelong won comfortably from Fawkner, the margin being more than 7 goals, while AMP Society crashed against ANZ Bank, going down by nearly 14 goals . Old Mentonians beat North Brunswick by 5 goals and LaTrobe Reds beat Thornbury by 17 points. In the Juniors, University Blues scored a 33-point win over the Blacks and Monash easily beat Old Scotch . In Section 2, Geelong climbed into the four when Bulleen-Templestowe were badly beaten by Parkside . Shocking kicking by Ormond (3-16) cost them the Reserves game against Reservoir, and Coburg with an easy win, knocked St . Bernard's out of the four . Old Trinity beat De La Salle by 8 points, and Parkside beat Marcellin by the same margin . St . Kevin's easily beat Hampton Rovers, and Old Xaverians, with 2-17, kicked themselves out of it against State Bank. Fawkner beat Old Geelong by 4 goals, LaTrobe Reds beat Thornbury by 17 points and North Brunswick went down to Old Mentonians by 13 points . KEITH SWENEY of PARKSIDE today plays his 50th game . After being captain of the junior side last year, he has begun to make his mark in the open age teams, doing particularly well in the Reserves and when asked to play in the Seniors he has done a creditable job . Parkside expects big things from Keith in the years to come .

"ZEDDA" REACHES 150 GAMES LAURIE FEHRING of ANZ BANK play s his 150th game for the club today . Laurie joined the bank side in 1965 and has been a strong club supporter from that time . Laurie has been a keen and regular player for the reserves and for the past two yearshas been vice captain. All from the bank club congratulate Laurie on a fine achievement.
The committee, players and supporters of Collegians F .C . were saddened last week with the dealth of CLIFF FARLEY . For the past ten years Cliff has played a vital role In our club's administration as Secretary, Press Correspondent, and Time Keeper, and his contribution will always be recognised by its thoroughness and dependability . More importantly on a personal level, Cliff will always be remembered for the unreserved friendship he gave to all of us . He will indeed be missed around the "Harry Trott".

VALE, VIN WILLIAM S The news of the death of Vin Williams on 24th July last came as a terrible shock to all North Old Boys . Vin had spent most of his life actively associated with football . He was a champion player at St . Pat's Ballarat and later with Fitzroy. He coached North Old Boys from 1969 until 1971 . His coaching relied on the finer points of the Australi an game with heavy emphasis on playon football and the use of handball . Vin was a magnificent club man and was the main organiser of our main fund raising effort du ri ng his time with the Club . Vin leaves it wife and young family and , we extend to them our deepest sympathy in their time of loss .

SNOW'S STOR M I've always 'ad a big head . But right now its triple normal size . 'Cause we won last Saturdee . Reckon the three nites trainin' was just wot they wanted . It's all too much for the mind . Where will it end? As far as I'm concerned only when they carry me off the ground after winnin' the premiership . Last week we knocked off the 'ot favourites for th e flag . Nok we're in second place and there's nought stopping us. Talk about celebrate last Saturdee's win, I knocked up about last Thursday from all the fellows who wanted to shake me 'and an' pat me on the back . Me 'ead's been ringin' most of the week. I'm like a kid with a new toy, but it's not me own till we win the flag . Gave the boys only light trainin' durin' the week . Reckon .they'll be in the peak of condition for today's game, witch we's gotta win too . On Sundee the Ladies Committee are fixin' a car trial . Should be pretty freaky finishing up with a few chops and snags around 4 o'colck . Give youse full reports next week . Till then better make meself scarse and git reddy fer the game .

All at MARCELLIN O .C . congratulate PETER CORRIE on playing his 50th game this week . One of the hardest triers of all the Eagles, Peter has been plagued with injury since joining us in our first season with the Amateurs . He; is also the most "Magic" player; always keen to offer his opinion . He has played in most positions but mainly concentrates on the roving berth, where he has given the opposition many headaches . Well done Peter. TERRANCE TREWIN also p lays his 50th game today for ST . KEVIN'S OLD BOYS . Since hi s best on the ground performance against C . King at the Lorne practice match he has not looked back and has been "firing" since . TIM MURNANE plays his 50th game with ST. KEVIN'S OLD BOYS today . Gentleman Tim is a great supporter of "tons" and hard training and we thank him for bringing Paul down to goal umpire . Today see TERRY KELLY play his fiftieth game for ASSUMPTION O .C . against Alphington . Terry first played in 1972 . During his first two seasons he mainly played as a wingman . However this season he has given great drive from centre half forward. Terry's parents travel from Euroa each Saturday to follow his fortunes . They will be joined by all supporters in wishing him well today . 100 UP TO CAULFIELD STAR BARRY MORPHET played his 100th game for CAULFIELD GRAMMARIANS last week . Barry has represented Victoria on a number of occasions an was seleceted in the Australian Amateur team a few years ago. GREG HAWKINS plays his 50th game for ST . KEVIN'S OLD BOYS today . Greg is noted for his staying ability on and off the field . He has starred all over the ground from back pocket to centre half forward . THE BLACK LIST Missed publication dead-line (4 .50 p.m .).
