Foster's LagerA symbol of Australia for almost a century . Since the Fosters brothers brewed the first distinctive Australian lager in 1888 the fame of Australia's favourite beer has grown around Australia and around the world. Foster's was first exported to South Africa during the Boer war . Today you can get a Foster's from Baghdad to Bangkok, San Francisco to Singapore . It's by far the biggest selling Australian beer in Britain . One of the top 10 selling imports in the U .S .A. Sold in every Australian state, Foster's outsells every other Australian brand of beer .
Australia's favourite beer.
I thought tipping was becoming easier but 2 out of 5 in both A and B sections is not very impressive . Did you notice that in A Section all the AWAY sides won and in B Section it was all the HOME sides ? The A Section ladder looks a little ominous with those great rivals of the 70's North Old Boys and De La Salle one game clear at the top . De La Salle turned a half time deficit of 7 points into a 56 point win over Old Scotch . Scotch was left reeling in the second half when De La Added 7 goals in each term . Phil Kerin was in superb touch and kicked 11 goals to go to the lead in the A Section goalkicking . David Harrington chipped in with 5 from the flank . Scotch cannot be all that bad, but it is not looking good as they languish at the bottom of the ladder . ` In a thriller at the University North Old Boys who had trailed for most fo the day won by a point with a goal on the siren . Blues held a handy 3 goal lead at three quarter time but were outscored in the last term 5 goals to 2 . both ruckment wer prominent . Considine for North and Yandell for the Blues . In a scrambly game atAlbert Park, Marcellin inflicted a 4 point loss on Caulfield Grammarians - their third loss in succession and they tumble from the four . Marcellin led for most of the day by 2-3 goals and although Caulfield did hit the front with 5 minutes to go, Marcellin fought back and deserved their victory . Both centremen shone out : Carr for Marcellin and Nalder for the 'Fields . Collegians had their second win of the year with an 8 point win over Ormond at Elsternwick Park, so avenging their second semi-final loss last year. Ormond held a five goal break in the third quarter but Collegians hit back with five goals in 10 minutes to put them back in the match . Ormond missed the three McDonald brothers who are on holiday,in the States ! Bulleen-Templestowe moved into the fourwith a slogging 28 point win over Ivanhoe at the Boulevard . Boccabella was held to 4 goals. The star of the match was Bulleen-Templestowe's ruckman Tony Keenan although Dominic Howard tried hard for the 'Hoes . In B Section the upset of the round was the defeat of leaders Old Xaverians by Old Brighton. It is an even competition there as well . I saw the clash between Old Melburnians and University Blacks at Fawkner Park . The game was of a high standard given the wet conditions and could have gone either way . I was impressed with the form of Doyle and Heath for the Blacks and Thompson and Wilts for the O .M .'s. Even Rick Pisarski is still taking marks overhead and kicking goals ! PETER FRE,Y CH PREVIEWS TODAY'S GAME S in line with the policy laid down by the Executive the Editor has been forced to do away with the "Whispers" services and for the moment VAFA General Manager Peter French will preview the weeks matches . From the outset what a competition we really have as upsets galore were the order of the day . Collegians knocked off Ormond by 8 points in A Section, after trailing by 6 goals half way through the 3rd term . Marcellin's tenacity gave them a 4 point win overCaulfield Grammarians and in anotherclose game North O .B . robbed Uni Blues of victory with a 1 point win, the decisive goal coming only seconds from time . ****~********* * I n B Section Old Brighton caused the upset of the day by defeating the previously unbeaten Old Xaverians. St . Bernards surprised many with its 29 point win over Fawkner . Parkside beat a luckless Therry by one point, and Old Melburnians got home from the Blacks by just 3 points . Actually all B Section games were great contests as Old Paradians had only 2 goals to spare against St . Kilda and as in A Section there are 5 sides locked on 8 points, **,~*********** * However the big news of the day came in C Section where Ajax surprised all Amateur football followers by beating Old Trinity . They did it well too, winning by 25 points and you should have seen the smile on the face of coach Phil Davis . the loss by Old Trinity broke a winning sequence of 23 games a great effort by the Green and Golds . Old Haileybury got into the giant killer act by beating the unbeaten Melbourne High and Hampton Rovers were desparately unlucky in going down toThomastown . St Kevins surprised Banyule and Kew was far too good for Old Camberwell . Kew rover Joey Bussutill, who had a stint at North O .B . lastyear, was in great touch with 8 goals . ****~***~***** * Balaclava remain unbeaten in D Section after beating West Brunswick by a massive 80 points and other results were predictable . ***~~***~****** 4
Clayton caused an upset in E Section by beating Elsternwick and State Bank shopwed its one of the sides to beat by accounting for Peninsula O .B . down at Mt. Eliza which now leaves BulleenUnited as the only unbeaten side . *****~***~~*** * Footscray Tech . after a slow start are making up ground rapidly in F Section as their huge 117 point win over A .N .Z . Bank shows. Whiefriars lost its first game to Uni High who now share the F Section lead with Old Essendon and Doveton won its first game beating St . Andrews by 5 points . ~* :~*~********~ * Old Carey lost top spot in G Section when it suffered a 2 point loss to GTV9 and Parkside have taken over as leaders of the Section . ******~~****** * It was really quite an unbelievable round for close results in Seniors, Under 19s and Reserves .(Have a look at A Reserves) and proves the point that close games and even teams are the ingredients for a successful competition . Now to toda y Following two successive wins Collegians have pushed themselves into the match of the day. Their's was a great effort last week and was a win full of character. However, I doubt that theycould afford to give Ivanhoe 6 goals startas the'Hoe will be smarting after last weeks loss to the Bullants . At the Harry Trott where no matter, what the conditions the ground will be excellent, the Lions run on game is their best betforvictory They played Elsternwick Park as well as'De La last Saturday and with Bickford running into form at centre half-forward the dangerous Roberts at the spearhead plus, the Herman brothers, they suddenly have a very versatile attack . It will need to be as Ivanhoe's big men will call the tune all day . Newcomer to the state squad Chris Taylor and the improving Dominic Howard will overwhelm Chris Pollock and although Nipper Parsons is a good rover Adams
better and they shoudl be and Balcombe are able to provide Dale Boccabella with many opportunities . I was impressed with the Lion's Stuart Hinchen's game last Saturday . skipper He will certainly have his handsfull today either on Loton or Morcom as one can expect that Schober will be give the "Boccabella job" . Despite their marked improvement I cant see Colle9ians winning, even at Harry-Trott as lvanhoe has the height and enough pace to match the Lions and I predict they'll win and confirmtheirposition asa leading contenderfor a finals berth . In the replay of the 1985 Grand final De La Salle at home will cut Ormond to ribbons . The 'Monds have been hard hit by loss of key players fora variety of reasons that I shan't go into here, whereas De La are still able to call on the Devesons, Mahers, Connollys, McHen rys, Lowes, Gasparinis etc . plus they have Phil Kerin in superlative match winning form atfull forward and although I've a lot of time for Ormond full back Martin Crampton i dont believe he has the strength to go with the De La man . Certainly Crampton hasa real football challenge and Kerin will know he's been playing . De La and Ormond games always produce their highlights and this will be no exception, but De La are playing far better at present and after an even first half their greater talent will see them draw away to victory . Nort h O.B. meet Scotch at Brens and in Norths present mood should kick the sweep . Scotch despite having some of the best players in A Section are not clicking as a team at present and certainlytheirsecond win will not be had today. Marcellin play Uni Blues at Bulleen and after Saturday's good showing are certainly a chance . I haven't seen the Eagles this year but have watched the Blues who look O .K . despite losing to De La at "The Park" a fortnight ago . If Matt Getson can hold Yelland in the ruck and Polkinghorne is given a "minder'much of the Blues drive will disappear and on their own ground where visitors often struggle Marcellin may just get up again . Finally to Bulleen-Templestowe where the Bullants tackle Caulfield Grammarians who are in a horror stretch . After a most encouraging start all form has deserted the 'Fields . For some reason I believe this will be the best bame of the round and I do give Caulfield a chance . The big Timber Ridge ground will suit their game and they undoubtedly have the 'star' players to match it with Bulleen-Templestowe. Dick Fish and David Matthews will combine to beat Tony Keenan whilst Stevenson and either Cooney or Gregor should pick up Palmer . Nalder will win in the centre although DeMa rte and Asdagi will call the tune around the packs . Ray Berzins and Anderson will worry the home side's defence even allowing for the experienced Gilmq re and I've justa hunch that Caulfield are due f_oka "big one" and on that hunch I'll select them to cause an,upset . Old rivals Old Xaverians hostOld Melburnians atYarra Park . The Xavs can be expected to turn on a big one today and O .M .'s will simply be THE AMATEUR FOOTBALLER, 1986

outgunned and never achance in this race . Old Paradians will face itsbiggesttestforsom e time at the Beaurepaire oval againstUni Blacks . The Blacks are certainly capable of winning but they wont as O .P.'s have really got the bit between their teeth at present and today will confirm that its one of the sides to beat . Despite a great effort last Saturday I can't see Old Brighton beating Therry who have been close to a win for weeks now . Bernie - dont worry by 5 p .m . tonight you'll have that second win and furthereven up what is a great section . St. Bernards is another side that won, surprising me, last week . However today at North road its the Saints turn . In the "big one" at Elsternwick Park Fawkner clash with Parkside . I haven't seen either side since they appeared in C & B Section finals respectively last year and so apart from efforts against other sides their form is hard to guage . In a game I'm really looking forward to I'll go for Fawkner as from all reports they may have the edge in pace which is pretty useful at Elsternwick, but dont worry John Wist - I've been wrong before ! Now to C Section where I predict with a fair degree of confidence thatOldTrinity will bounce back and beat Banyule, MHSOB will account for St . Kevins, Ajax will continue on its winning way against a luckless Hampton Rovers . The Thomastown-Kew match should be fairly even with victory going to 'Town due to home ground advantage and Old Haileybury now that they've joined the big 3 will notfalteratOld Camberwell . D Section is more difficult but I'll stick with Balaclava to beat Preston in the match of the day and I believe Coburg will account for West Brunswick. Actually I'm going for all the away sidesOldMentonians,MonashBluesandHeatherton . In E Section Brunswick will repeat its 1985 performance by beating Clayton in the replay of the F Section Grand Final and State Bank will be untroubled by Williamstown . Bulleen United will continue on its merry way against Uni Reds who won well last week, whilst in the Bayside Derby Peninsula O.B . should return to the winning list at the expense of St. Bedes . Elsternwick are the tip at home against Old Geelong . F Sections winners are much harder to select . In the sections main game I'll go for Old Essendon to topple Uni High . Its sure to be a good close game, with the Dons home ground advantage giving them the edge . St. Andrews should get back on the rails by beating Latrobe who have taken a nose dive whilst Doveton will make it two in a row bybeating St. Leonards who don't know how to win . In the battle of the banks I'm going for the Commonwealth who have really hit their straps after a slow start and finally I like Whitefriars at home to beat Footscray Tech . In G Section Old Carey should turn the tables on GTV9 outat Bulleen, Parkside will handle the Students and Eltham may just win its first game by beating Williamstown . In the main game in Under 19 Section 1, I feel 5
De La can take the points off Ormond and in Section 2 Old Haileybury will beat the Blacks. The Section 3 big game is at Hampton where the Rovers are the tip over Old Paradians.
The Old Amateur Football Clu believes it Haileybury holds an amateur record which it bis OTF notices that it's tight for the F Section goalkicking lead with 6 players challenging Kufner of Uni H i,h for top position which he holds by just one goal . not too proud . Looking Back by Noel Rundl e 5 YEARS AGO - 1981 Traditional rivals, Old Melburnians (A) an d old Scotch kicked off the "Sunday Season" with the Dark Blues finishing strongly to win by 27 points and record their first win for th e seaso n Best were Knight, 1 . Cordner (5 goals), Plsarski (Old Melb .) and Swanson, Treyvaud, Morgan (0 . Scotch) . In the closest game of the round, Old Xaverians (A), trailing De La by 33 points at last change kicked 7 .1 to 1 .3 to win . Old X's stars were Pirrier, Cale, Gleeson and for De La, "missed copy deadline" . 'A' Section umpires were Horwood, Wills, Henry, Mead, Morgan, Tracey, Goodman, J . Segota, P . King and J. Smith . A' Section coaches were Phil Davis (Ajax), John Russell (Marcellin), Terry Scanlon (N .O.B .), Peter O'Donohue (O .Melb .), Laurie Aghan (O .Scotch), Michael Green (O .Xavs), Peter Murphy (Ormond), Gerard Mitchell (St .Bernards), John Pollard (U .Blacks) . Round 5 and De La Team list not yet provided . Who did coach them ? Devere (G), Bulleen-Templestowe, S .Scullin (E) North Brunswick and Goetz (J .3) Old Brighton kicked 10 goals each for the round . 10 YEARS AGO - 197 6 North Old Boys congratulated their famous captain and coach (3rd season), Shane Maguire on his 150th game . (Shane has been an interstate selector for many years) . De La Salle's very popular Paul Mitchell also played his 150th game - 1975, Club Reserves best & fairest, and member of 'B' section premier side . 250 to Dave Berry at Ivanhoe . Dave started with juniors in 1960, senior captain and best & fairest in 1971, and a great asset on the social committee . In'D' Old Geelong surprised Old Camberwell with an 18 point win, with accuracy the major factor, 17 .4 to 12 .16. Best were Ross, Gilbert, Moore (O .Geelong) and Hewitt, Buchanan, Potter (O .Camberwell) . 'B' Section coaches were Frank Goode (Caul .Gramm .), Ted Farrell (Collegians), Bill McWhinnie (Ivanhoe), Ray Walsh (Marcellin), Les Adams (MHSOB), Trevor Read (O.Carey), Graham Mansfield (O .Paradians), Laurie Aghan (O .Scotch), Maurie Bilston (St .Kilda CBOC) . 15 YEARS AGO - 197 1 St . Bernard's stalwart Bob Hampson and Peter "Tub" Atkinson became the club's firs t
players to reach 15o games . Peter had also been secretary for 5 years . Lucky Monash Blues - scraped home again . For the third successive week Monash Blues won by a narrow margin - three points this time - at the expense of Old Scotch who were in front when the siren sounded and lost the game when Monash goaled from a free kick awarded a few seconds before the siren . Marshall, Galbriath, Ba rt ley (Monash) and Addison, Heaton, Welch (Old Scotch) were best . Coburg (21 .15 .141) annihilated Melbourne High (3 .10 .28) . Alan Salter (Coburg) and Sam Birtles (Monash Blues) had been appointed coaches of teams to play South Australia and Tasmania while the managers of th e respective teams were Brian Le Brocq and Fred Coldrey . 20 YEARS AGO - 1966 John Anderson proved a capable full forward for Old Scotch Juniors with 7 goals against Coburg to bring his tally to 14 . Ormond were thrilled with [an Cameron's great display against Footscray Tech . for his 50th game - "tigerish and tough" . Collegians announced Prime Minister, Harold E . Holt, as a financial member of the club for season 1966 . It was reported that "Gympie" Sutherland dropped a trayfull of glasses at "Commonwealth Bank's" Saturday night turn" - reason advanced was something about Nancy and "Gympie's" thrill of his life . 35 YEARS AGO - 1951 Among the 'B' Section notes Coburg thanked Geelong for their great hospitality after the game . One who no doubt enjoyed it was Bob Sinclair "many thanks for his acceptance of that quite thankless task of boundary strider" (No doubt Bob could still handle the hospitality but not the boundary Ed .) . A' Section captains were Joe Sheehan (Ormond), Doug Arnold (Hampton Rovers), Peter Cox (Old Melburnians), J . Thomas (Comm . Bank), Geoff Sinclair (Uni . Blues), Keith Lewis (Collegians), Wally Sparks (Ivanhoe) . Who captained Old Scotch, Brunswick and Univ.Blacks ? Sad to report - Old Xaverians went down to undefeated 'B' Section leaders Alphington with scores 21 .20 to 0 .1 . Yes, Old Xav's scored in the second quarter and not again!

Personality Pars THREE FIFTIES AT OLD HAILEYBURIANS Last Saturday Old Haileyburians' Greg Taylor 'mid his fiftieth game ; today Andrew Wilson Andrew Mountford join "Tails" in reaching ,Ile milestone . Greg Taylorfirst played for the Bloods in 1982 d has been a most durable competitor on the f e!d and great clubman off it . A slender rednead without quite the tempramentto match, he i as great ball skills and is fit enough to run up ji nd down the wing all day (despite many appearences with the Chevron veterans) . "Little Tails" also does his fair share of roving, all rapped up by the long-sleeved number 57 jumper which covers his forearms . Lastweekthe 1982 runnerup best and fairest for the juniors started on a half back flank . Less chances to kick around corners, Tails ! Andy Wilson has been at Old Haileybury ever ,ince the club's move to McKinnon in 1983 . Son of former Hampton Rover and pianist extraordinaire, John "Potto" Wilson, "Wils" has stepped into some big shoes at centre half forward . The big fellow is extremely mobile for one of his size although has been restricted of late through injury - he seems to be getting through it now and is raring to go . Last year's seniorvice captain isa leader amongst men and his mere presence can make both younger and older team mates walk that much taller . And r ;hat a body! - Adonis would be embarassed alongside this intense man mountain .VVils'return :ill lift the side even further. Andrew Mountford is a solid but quick utility, especially dangerous around goals . One of the Bloods' better on-field yappers "Mounty" has also shown talent as a'keeper in the off-season . A couple more weeks or so should see the dynamo return to peak condition and again press for a regular game in the ones . Just watch the fair-haired right-footer go ! All the best to these three valued clubmen at Old Haileybury . DE LA SALL E Tony Spencer of De La Salle O .C . played his 100th game for the club in Round 4 against Uni Blues . - His injury interrupted career kicked off in 1980 with the Under 19's and after 82 reserve and 18 Under 19 games, 'Spence was able to play his 100th . He played in the 1981 Reserves Premiership side, and has been a consistent and regular player with the reserves over the years . He has also been a fine clubman who attends and enjoys all the social functions of the club . Well done on reaching your 100th 'Spence' and everyone at De La hopes those dickey hamstrings will carry you through another 100 games .
Tim Cooke of De La Salle O .C . played his 150th game in the blue and gold jumper in Round 4 against Uni Blues . After starting in the juniors in 1978 Tim has compiled 99 senior, 16 reserve and 35 junior games on his way to his 150 games . A consistent player who nevergives in he has played an important part in the A grade Premierships for the club in 1979, 1980, 1983 and 1984 . He was also a member of the senior side who were runners up to Ormond last year and is keen to wipe out that memory by going one step further this year . Tim was picked in the VAFA representative side to play against the VFA in 1985, and has been a valuable and consistent player for De La over the years . Congratulations on your fine achievement from everyone at De La . SEVERAL MILESTONES AT DE LA Congratulations to Danny Tessier of De L a Salle O .C . who played his 150th game in Round 2 against Marcellin . After starring in our under 19 side back in 1978 Danny's 150 consist of 22 senior, 106 reserves, and 20 junior games . An added bonus was Danny's 150th game was in the senior side . Danny has been a fine clubman during his 9 years at the club, and he has been Reserves captain, winner of the reserves best and fairest trophy, and played in the 1980 and 1981 Reserves Premiership sides . He has also played in the 1984 and 1981 runners-up teams and will be keen to make sure he goes one better this year in either the reserves of seniors . Well done on a fine achievement and may you play many more games in the blue and gold jumper . Bryan Kellett of De La Salle O .C . will play his 100th game today against Ormond and not three weeks ago as he informed everyone . Maybe Tony De Bolfo will give him another mention in his inside Football column ! Bryan started in our Under 19's in 1980, and despite a season off in 1982, he has managed 1 senor, 83 reserves and 16 junior games in a career where he has carried the bulk of the reserves ruckwork . Bryan has been captain of our reserve side for the past few seasons and has led the team by example . He has also supported the social committee by providing many artistic poster to advertise future events to be held at the club, and is always at the functions lending a hand . Bryan played in the 1981 reserves Premiership side, and as captain of the 1984 and 1985 reserve runners up team, he is also keen to avenge those defeats with a Premiership victory this season . Well done Bryan we all hope you pull the Blue and Gold jumper on for many more valuable games .

Personafity Pars UNI BLACK S it is very rare indeed for a footballer to reach 250 games in university football . Today at the University oval we salute one of the blacks greatest sons - Jack Clarke . `Way back in the early 70's three young Uni students were among the many players to be "allocated" . It must have been a great year for the Blacks because each ,of those players went on to break many records between them . We can't quite work out who is the father, son or Holy Ghost but between them Ross Perrett, " Harry Costello" and Jack Clarke have played nearly 750 games . Unfortunately Harry had to leave the Blacks for work reasons on his 248th game (We're hoping he'll be back for two more games one day) . Roseoe is at 238 and is still going strong . Jacks record like himself has been elusive - often referred to as the man from ASIO . Jack is a celebrity not only with the Blacks but has also been seen to grace circles with some of Australia's leading political identities . He started his career in 1970 with the Blacks juniors . The following year he was made captain and before long he was promoted to the seniors . There he continued until 1974 where he had one year with the Reds, obviously he knew the Blacks was his tru home or else very peeved (in his absence the Blacks won a flag) he returned to Blacks and has continued helping with the club in a number of ways . Jack was awarded life membership of the MUFL in 1982 for his great service to the club . His achievements include - 1970-1986 30 junior, 68 reserve, 152 senior games ; 1971 - Juniorcaptain ; 1972-75 Intervasity Member ; 1976 VAFA Rep
equal best and fairest ; 1979-83 Committee including chairman of selectors 1981-83 ; 1984 Reserves premiership . Jack from all at Blacks and the University, Thank You for your marvellous contribution to Universityand amateurfootball . CENTURY AT ELSTERNWICK Congratulations from Elsternwick playersan d supporters to Peter Ritchie on playing his 100th game today . People like Peter Ritchie are the life blood of amateur football . They love their football, they never miss training, and they are prepared to put in to getthingsdone around the club . In his time with the club, Peter has played mainly as a half back or back pocket, although more recently his stamina and desire to win the ball have seen him used as a ruck rover . Peter has played in both seniors and reserves without quite being able to secure a regular senior spot . Peter attends EVERY training night and was awarded the Coaches Trophy in 1984 . Elsternwick Amateur Football Club is a family affair forthe Ritchies . Both Peterand wife Grace have been on the social committee and for the last three years Peter has been on the general committee of the club . His great contribution to the club has been recognised in his award as Best Clubman in 1982 and Captain of the reserves in 1986 . Congratulations on your hundred games Peter, I wish everyone at Elsternwick was a bit more like you .

DRAGONS BREATH To reach your 100th game is a well achieved milestone and Clayton congratulate Marc Luxa on reaching his when he played State Bank last Saturday . Marc had an indifferent start with the club missing seasons through business and trying to better himself . However for the past four seasons Marc has been one of the hard working members around the club . Marc's efforts on the field have also been rewarded with two state representative games in the last two seasons. Well done Marc from all atClayton and here's to another good season . ST.ANDREWS 50 games today for Geoff Casey is the result of two and a half season of service to St . Andrews F.C . Geoff who has often doubled up and played in both matches on the one day is a speedy player who can always be relied on to give his best in every game he takes part in . With youth on his side we are sure that Geoff will go onto play many more games for the gold and blue jumper. Well Done "Case" ! St . Andrews F .C . would like to congratulate its senior captain coach Barry Funnell who will today play his 100th game for the club . Barry who joined the club from Brunswick Uniting at the start of the 1980 season was a member of the reserve premiership side in that year before becoming a regualr player in the senior team . Taking over the club reins halfway through the 1984 season Barry rarely puts in a bad performance and has become an inspiring leader both on and off the field . Today sees Mark Shearer play his 100th game for the gold and blue of St . Andrews . Mark also came to the club in 1980 and was another 1980 premiership player . Mark who stands out with his long blond hair is one player who always throws his body into packs and never shirks any issur. Again Mark is young and there is no reason why Mark will not go onto higher games milestones . Congratulations from all at St. Andrews . DANNY DAWSON REACHES 100 GAME MILESTONE AT OLD MELBURNIAN S Danny, or more affectionately known as "Two Dozen", reached his 100 game milestone in the first match of this season . Danny joined the club in 1978 following the footsteps of his father and brother . He continued his brother Peter's tradition of "doing the Hamy"! Highlights of his career include playing in the 1978 B Reserve grade Final and the Winning B Grade OM team in 1982 . On the field Danny is tough, uncompromising and vocal player. A complete contrast to his off field manner! All at OM's wish Danny the very best for his next 200, because everyone knows the first 100 are the hardest .

OLD HAILEYBURIAN S Tow stalwarts from Old Haileyburians both slipped quietly past the 50 game milestone in the Bloods opening round against Old Trinity . Paul Brewerand Andrew Brown both joined the club in 1983, the year of the big move to McKinnon . "Bruiser" has played all but a handful of his games in the 1st XVIII whilst"Browny" has only hit the big time on a couple of occasions and also spent his first season in the U / 19's . this year sees Paul Brewer also under domestic pressures following a fateful walk down the aisle over summer. Now joined by elder brother Mark at the club, Paul is the honorary club "Sparky" and recent dewirer of the club president's notorious "Snakepit" . Paul has close to the best pair of hands in the club, and his basketball talents show hin the clever baulking, turning and weaving of this slight, fairheaded wingman-flanker wearing the devil's number. Andrew Brown is built rather more solidly, but once he puffs up steam he is ever harder to stop . Hisdash has enabled him, however, toalternate with apparent ease between the wing and fullback of all places . "Browny's" sure kicking and safe, solid marking make him an ideal man for the goal square . 'Berge' in the firsts and 'Browny' in the seconds experienced contrating fortunes last week - lets hope they can make it on to the ton . Well done fellas!! ! OLD MELBURNIANS CELEBRITY MOVES TO BIGGER THING S Andrew "Archie" Salek once only seen performing around the Old Melburnians House and various functions is now the Anchor man in the V .A.F .A . segment on HSV7's World of Sport . Archie has had a high profile at the OM's and now many of those OM's are found glued to thei r TV sets to see more of Archies exploits . Archie is a tremendous mimic, and all at OM's want to see hisJohn Cain impersonation during the V .A .F .A . segment before the end of the season . So as Archie always says : "Stand by" and stand by we will!!! 50 UP AT U .H .S . Gary Buckman plays his 50th game for Uni High againstOld Essendon today . Gary'sattitude to the game has significantly improved over the last two year resulting in consistant performances in the seniors . In 1985 he won the reserve best and fairest and was best afield in our winning premiership side . Congratulations "Buck", keep up the good work .

Personality Par s TWO MORE FIFTIES FOR THE BLOODS This week sees Old Haileyburians' Greg Taylo r join his contemporary, Andrew Brown in the 50 game club . "Browny" actually reached the milestone a couple of weeks ago although somehow managed to do so unnoticed . A dashing fullback and occasional wingmanJcentreman, he joined the club in 1983 . The following year posed a few problems as he was one of four players answering to the nickname "Browny" - Andrew J, Andrew P, Alastairand Craig . Don't be fooled bythe team lists either - every year he is listed as number fifty-something but faithfully turns up in the old number sixteen . Greg Taylor has spent most of his career as a tireless wingman or rover an uncharacteristically quiet redhead who runs all day and does all the hard things . "Little Tails" loves nothing better than kicking mongrel punts around corners but his disposal is generally a highlight of his game . The long sleeves of his number 57 jumper typically ride halfway up his bony forearms but never impede his constructive handball . This year the spindly runner has even threatened to put on weight. "Tails", as well as "Browny" is also one of our great clubmen, always at the turns unless "The Oils" are playing . Well done fellas from all at O .H . - go for a hundred!
THOMASTOWN SENIOR S All at Thomastown congratulate Rod Flinn on playing his 50th game for the club against St. Kevins . Since joining the senior ranks, he has become a very consistent utility player especially when he received regular games in 1985 . We hope Rod can continue his good form for many more seasons with us . We also thank him for his support of the various club functions - a very valuable player and clubman . THOMASTOWN UNDER 19 Congratulations are extended from all at Thomastown to Lee Everitt for playing his 100th game against Old Brighton . Lee started in 1979 in our junior teams and has always been a very keen learner and has worked hard at his game . He did very well in seasons 1983 and 1984 culminating in receiving the Best and Fairest player award in the Under 19's at Thomastown in 1985 . Good luck for the next 100 with us Lee ! DOVETON SJOC Congratulations from all players and members of Doveton SJOC to Steve Chisholm on having played 100 games of football with us . "Chris" has shown tremendous dedication to the St . Johns?Doveton club since its inception in 1980, working on the Committee in early years of the club as wee] as playing half forward early, but in defence in the lastfew seasons, and has held his place in the team and the respectand admiration of all of us because of his consistency of performance and reliable and pleasant nature . The Guard of Honour that the players spontaneously formed for Steve before last Saturday's Senior game against St . Andrew's is probablya greatertribute than any wordscan be to a truly great character at Doveton SJOC . N .B . The Best and Fairest award at Doveton SJOC the Alister Chisholm Memorial Trophy, is named after Steve's brother .

150 AT MHSO B Today one of M HSOB's most courageous and determined leaders plays his 150th game for the club . Craig Flegeltaub attended Melbourne High from 1974 to 1977 where he established himself as a classy wingman in the school side, s inning most consistent player awards in both Under 17's and Under 19's . Craig commenced senior football in sensational style winning the club best and fairest award in 78 and 79 and runner up in 1980 . 1981 sawCraig win the coachesaward for outstanding club dedication followed by most consistent aviards in 82 and 83 and best and fairest runner up in 1984 . These awards won year after year indicate the great abilities, courage and dedication that this fine rover has displayed .veek after week even when suffering sever injuries which would sideline many players . Not only has Craig been a great team man on the field butalso a greatclubman off the field filling many committee positions, in particular social convenor which he handles with great style . Craig's leadership abilities have been rewarded on the field when he wasappointed vice captain in 81 and 82 and club captain in 83 and 84 . Season 85 saw our popular and respected captain take a break from football while he kicked up his heels around Europe . The highlight of Craigs football career to present is probably his
y Pars selection in the VAFA side to play Tasmania in Hobart during season 1983 where he represented his club and state with distinction . All members, players and supporters of MHSOB would like to take this opportunity to thank you Craig for your past efforts and congratulate you on reaching such a remendous milestone today and look forward to the next 50 games to reach the magical 200 . A .N .Z . LEGEND RETURN S All at ANZ welcome the return from retirement of one of our "Legends" "Harry Birkenfelds", who returned to the fray last Saturday against F .I .T .O.B . and helped the seconds to a significant victory . Keep up the good work "H", we hope to see your mate "Peter Seel" back soon as well .
WHITEFRIARS Newcomer Gavin Crow kicked 6 goals in a losing score for his first game in the reserves . Gavin (an Ex Heatherdale footballer) only started training last week after recovering from a serious motorcycle accident which has left him with a steel pin in his leg . With this sort of courage he should be a good find for the Friars when fit .
