Foster's LagerA symbol of Australia for almost a century. Since the Fosters brothers brewed the first distinctive Australian lager in 1888 the fame of Australia's favourite beer has grown around Australia and around the world. Foster's was first exported to South Africa during the Boer war. Today you can get a Foster's from Baghdad to Bangkok, San Francisco to Singapore . It's by far the biggest selling Australian beer in Britain . One of the top 10 selling imports in the U.S .A. Sold in every Australian state, Foster's outsells every other Australian brand of beer .

Australia's favourite beer.

Top side Collegians was the only side in the four to win last week, and three of the bottom sides managed victories . The competition is alive and kicking! Nothing is certain about the four nor about relegation ! The Collegians machine rolled on with its 11th consecutive win . Ivanhoe suffered a 33 point loss at the hands of the Lions at the Boulevard . It was possibly a danger game with Ivanhoe facing relegation and at home in the wet and indeed the 'Hoes' did lead at quarter time by 10 points but after that Collegians strength and running took over . Ivanhoe President Lew Balcombe thinks thatCollegians is the bestside in it . Hasn'tJeff Lemon been a useful addition to the Lion roving department? he revelled in the conditions on Saturday as did Ivanhoe's back flanker Rob Stewart. De La Salle bounced back after their loss to Old Scotch the previous week with a 38 point win over Ormond . The loss put Ormond out of the four, whether permanently or temporarily remains unclear . Bernie Sheehy addressed the players before the match so he is having a good run, what with his coaching of Therry to a win over fancied Parkside in B Section the week before . Where was Bernie Dunn you may well ask? He was fulfilling school obligations in the snow! De La Salle could not have been served better than by anyone than centreman Tim Cooke, a wet weather specialist! And, of course the dogged Mick Green . These two epitomised De La's desperation to win to get back into the tour. Peter French did not agree with me that Old Scotch would beat North Old Boys. The Cardinals did it convicingly by 38 points! Scotch cannot afford to lose and I think their first win over De La Salle at East Malvern in 15 years was very significant and a sign of better things from them . Scotch won it with handball, 140 for the day and the Senior brothers played more than useful parts . Rover Ric kicked 4 goals and half forward David kicked 3 . North's Peter Wright continued his good recentform and had a good battle with Scotch's Warwick Matthews . North are vying with Bulleen-Templestowe as the most inconsistent side in the competition . Second-placed Bulleen-Templestowe sufferd a 38 point loss at the hands of Caulfield Grammarians . Caulfield are on a winning streak, now 4 in a row . The Fields started very well with Alan Nalder kicking 5 goals in the first quarter and led by 24 points at quarter time . They never looked back after that and Nalder went on to kick 10 for the afternoon . John Kanis and David Matthews were also fine players for Caulfield . Matthews is relishing the ruck . Steve Krygger and Phil Espenchied tried hard but BulleenTemp's best was rover Vince Asdagi . At the University Marcellin kept their hopes of avoiding relegation alive with a 15 point win over University Blues. The ground was in an apalling state and players of both sides were barely recognisable after just five minutes . The Amad brothers were instrumental in Marcellin's win, Joe in the centre and Tony on the flank . Blues stalwart Brian Lowe battled it out with Marcellin's Matt Getson in the ruck . The promotion/relegation system keeps this competition alive . I look forward to next week! Talk t o you tonight on 3LO at 6 .40. Peter French Previews Today's AS, B and C Section Matches

The last stretch, the run home to the finals, and as can be seen in The Fight for the Four" certain clubs will have plenty of anxious moments over the next 4 weeks . With tow and possible three A Section matches shifted due to the condition of grounds selection takes on a new challenge . At Harry Trott, Collegians meet a very much in form Cauifiedl Grammarians who are rightfuiiy, quietly confident of upsetting the Lions for the first time since Round 3 when they went down to the Blues by 38 points . Indeed there was a rumour around earlier in the week on the infamous V.A .F.A . grapevine that some Collegians personnel wouldn't mind a"ioss" at this stage, so as to sharpen the players up for the finals . Well Caulfield shouldn't get any ideas about meeting a half hearted side, as coach Bruce Ferguson hates a loss at any time and is bound to draw his players attentior to the "rumour". I have it on reliable authority that Bruce has in the past referred to articles in the Amateur Footbaiier when addressing his players pre-match, which to Ross and I is praise indeed! Now to the game . Coflegians will win as they've the players to cover the in form Caulfield stars . Alan Nalder who is making a habi! of kicking a bag from the forward line will be up against a real pro (in the skill sense!) in Simon Williams ano can expect a very tough game indeed . Williams receives such good support from Newman that he has the confidence to attack at all times and I feel that Nalder will in the end be starved of opportunities . The return of Ray Berzins after a week in the Reserves will add to the forward line, but with Stua rt Hinchen who playeo as a forward last week or Steve Parsons or even Ric Schober for that matter available to pit against the Field's left footer, Bruce Ferguson has the lead in trumps. John Kanis is on fire at present as is winger Je re my Stone and both will win kicks against either Peter Kahn or Andy Ingleton and G reg Tre gear. Although David 1i thews will win in the ruck Caulfield desparateiy lacks the defenders and ruck rovers capable of holding the likes of Roberts, Wolff Laussen and Bickford plus Hoyle and Herman, and this is the area where Collegians will win the game. At Marcellin the home side is bound to give Bulleen-Templestowe a real fright . They pushed the Bullants to seven points in the early game (May 24th) and will have learnt much from then fine win last Saturday . They can now see the chance of staving off relegation and in the heavy conditions at the school oval a Marcellin victory is not unthinkable . Bulleen-Templestowe are a worry, as no side with finals hopes should lose to a down the list side by so great a margin at this stage of the season as the combine did last week . On paper they've an excellent side and out match the eagles in most postions, and with the fear of failure hanging over them I think they might just out stary a revitalised Marcellin . De La Salle are to meet Ivanhoe at Albert Park (either Oval 4 or the Junction) and will relish the chance to play on a decent surface again . Results were kind to De La last week and with a reduced injury list De La are hardly likely to surrender that hard won double chance . Ivanhoe played well in the first half last week . Indeed accuracy up forward in the early stages may well have caused their highly regarded visitors some acute embarrassment . Still that was last week and Ivanhoe has slipped markedly in the last month and has the odds stacked heavily against it today. Both sides have much at stake but De La although not playing really well are at least winning and I expect them to continue that today , Uni Blues and Old Scotch will battle it out on Old Xavs ground due to the appaling condition of the University Oval . Scotch have turned the corner and are confident of remaining in A Section after yet another disappointing season that promised much but produced little. The Blues someone said "are just going through the motions". Where I disagree with that notion I do agree that Scotch will win today . An now to the match of the day where Ormond again finds itself. At time of writing the game is at Brans, but any more rain and the match will be played at Albert Park (Oval 8) . On either surface I like North despite their very ordinary effort against the Scotchies last Saturday. I'm sure the Northerners now realize what a golden opportunity of consolidation they let slip last week, and I do not wish to take anything away from Scotch who from all reports were deserved winners . Ormond on the other hand are now facing a third loss on end and as history shows are never more dangerous than when their backs are to the wall and they've been written off by all and sundry . However, despite such sentiment and tradition the facts say North as they've the big man strength and defence capable of holding a weakened Ormond forward line to a!osing score . Honors should be even across the centre and around the packs but the Herkess and Naylor of today are simply no match for B rown and Wright . North's runners Luke Moise, Tony Cahill and Brian Hanlon may prove the key to this game and for Ormond to stay in control of its own finals destiny it must hope for an upset today . The match so manv of us have been waiting for will be played at headquarters today between competitior THE AMATEUR FOOTBALLER 1986 4

eaaers Old Xaverians amd Old Paradians . The final result may rest in the state of the ground which is bound to be heavy. Both sides have had an outing at Elsternwick Park in recent weeks and both have recorded wins . Ho• .zver, I fancy Old Paradians to emerge victorious today for a number of reasons . Coach Gerrard Sholley and his p!ayers will have not forgotten the early game which was a case of defeat snatched from the jaws of "Ictory. In addition they are a more even side not so reliant on one or two match winners . They will run, compete and contest every issue and finally they are playing with enough confidence to blanket that galaxy of Old Xav's stars. It my sound as if I'm expecting a Bundoora cakewalk - far from it . John Turner has proven an astute coach and one who has quickly learnt the vagaries of Amateur Football and Amateur Footballers! Obviously tre has trump cards in All Australian full forward Cameron O'Brien and the trim umpires fried Steve Cu rtain, ;~ ;hose brothers Peter and Paul are bound to cause plenty of headaches . In discussing this game with a colleague we wondered whether Turner would use Peter Cu rtain to tag Spillane . I doubt it as the former Saint Is so versatile he may prove more damaging roaming across the half forward line . From all reports both clubs are keenly awaiting the encounter which is sure to draw a good crowd, and to repeat the selection - Old Paradians . parkside faces more than a danger game in its journey to Essendon to play St . Bernards. The devils have ost 2 in a row and if that becomes 3 after today they can kiss any hope of a finals berth goodbye . I watched Parkstde for the first half of their match against Fawkner last week and didn't see much to enthuse about. Fawkner led them to the ball on most occasions and if it hadn't been for some determined play from the likes of Papas and Coleman and the skills of Page and Sturgess the margin would have been far greater. St . Bernards on the other hand had an important win over a much improved St . Kilda and realizing that another home win would n all probability keep them in B Section, I'm sticking with the Saints . Fawkner has -come of age and their recent important victories have seen them inch their way to third place . Today they'll be all out to improve their percentage against Old Brighton and with Terry Young who kicked one of the best snap goals from a pack you have ever seen last week, in scintilating form and Rhodes and Hills aren't far behind him either, its Fawkner for me as the club is really on the up and determined to feature orominently in the B Section finals . Therry threw away any chance of a rags to riches story in going down to Old Brighton last week . However, back at home today against a demoralized Old Melburnians, Therry will return to the winning list . Unit Blacks also face a danger game at North road against St . Kilda C .B .O.C. The ground will not suit the Blacks who put in a shocker last week . Norm Nugent points out the whole club could manage only 4 goals ast week . I'm sure the seniors will improve on that today but then so too have the Saints and in going for the students its a selection without confidence, and I shan't be at all surprised to hear of a St . Kilda victory. Why didn't I select them you ask? Because I believe that the spur to stay in the four should be more than enough to give Blacks those 4 points . In the match of the day in C Section Thomastown despite not haviang won 3 games on end to date should finally do so today by beating the lukewarm challenge of Old Haileybu ry . The bloods were cock a hoop with their big win last week against bottom side Old Camberwell, but today as John Fisher might say "will sort the men from the boys" and out at Thomastown which is a long way from the soft and leafy climes of McKinnon and Keysborough I'm sticking with "Harry's Heroes" to cement its place at No .2, even though the Bears captain coach will be sidelined with a strained "Hammy" . Thomastown was the model of consistency last week in the mud at Kew and the experience of Fellowes, Pace and Assett a plus the undeniable talent of youngsters Bell, Simm, Cope and Santini will enable the Bears to put paid to Old Haileybury's hopes for 1986 . Banyule at home to Hampton Rovers will stay well in the hunt for finals honours and Old Trinity will boost ts percentage at the expense of St . Kevins. Melbourne High will win again by beating Old Camberwell and Ajax should eextinguish the Kew flame with a home win in what will be a do or die effort from the Browns . Finally for you Social Secretaries organizing end of season trips and best and fairest nights, note well that the V.A .F.A. finals will be payed as follows : Aug . 30th 1st Semi All Sections (B Section 31st) Aug . 30th 2nd Semi C,D,E,F,G and U .19' s Sept . 6th 2nd Semi A Section (B Section 7th) Sept . 6th Prelim . Previews E,!',,",3 and U19 Matches

Reviews last week's D,E,F,G and Junior Game s D) De Chene Oval was very heavy when Coburg and West Brunswick played a close contest The oval conditions prevented me seeing any "super stars" . Balaclava defeated Pre ston by the narrowest .margin and are now poised to snatch the double chance . Old Mentonians consolidated their finals position by comfortably defeating Powerhouse . Monash Blues had eighteen points to spare over Old Ivanhoe, who slipped to seventh as a result. Heatherton maintained their extremely slim finals hope, when they defeated North Brunsvr' k, -E Brunswick had a comfortable victory at Clayton while undefeated leader Bulleen United had over one hundred points to spare over cellar dweller University Reds. Elsternwick contradicted my selection by easily adjusting to the wide wings of Como and thus defeating Old Geelong . State Bank, too, made me "eat my words" when they won away from home at Williamstown . At Mt. Eliza the Peninsula 'Pirates' easily accounted for St . Bedes and thus maintained hopes of capturing the double chance .

E) Brunswick will await Old Geelong with confidence. As the "O.G .'s" can't win at Como, I can't select them at the Dunstan Oval . Clayton visit Bulleen United, who should maintain their enviable unbeaten record . Peninsula visit Eisternwick where they will find the small ground difficult to play. Provided the 'Wick defenders play close, I believe the home side will win . Williamstown make the long journey to St . Bede's whose players should Reds await State Bank who will sufficiently talented to take the points be able despit e the heavy state of the ground . F) Doveton will approach A .N .Z . Bank with great confidence as they will win again . Disappointing performers Footscray and Commonwealth Bank meet again . Although the bankers frustrate coach Nicholson with their slow starts, they will account for Fred's Footscray today . La Trobe visit St . Leonards for what could be a danger game. Without any great confidence I select La Trobe . In a finals preview U .H .S .O.B. visit St. Andrews . A high standard game can be expected before University High take the four points . Old Essendon face another danger game at Whitefriars. Although the Donvale ground has proven difficult for visitors, I believe Old Essendon will boun(;e back today by defeating Whitefriars . G) In what could prove a Grand Final preview, Old Carey visit Monash Whites. At home and via a higher degree of fitness, I select the Whites. Eltham await a depleted Parkside. The visitors should be able to take the points. Williamstown meet G.T.V. 9 in what should be a hard fought game . G :N have the necessary skill to take the points. Junior 1 De La Salle will be looking for a big victory over Banyule to keep its finals hopes alive. De La will be successful . Although victorious last week I don't see Old Scoth having the talent to defeat University Blue today. Ormond await Melbourne High for what could easily be the Grand Final preview. Despite Melbourne High's great win last week I believe Ormond will lower their colours today. Old Xaverians will be anxious to atone for last week's loss, when they meet Nort h Old Boys. If the Red and Blacks are to be a serious final contender, they must win this game decisively. Neighbours Marcellin and Bullen-Templestowe meet at the College . Victory to the district side will secure its final four position and I believe the combine can win .

F) Commonwealth Bank defeated A .N .Z . Bank in a disappointing game on the quality surface of Harry Trott Oval . Either side was capable of winning, but A .N .Z . had little forward system to convert opportunities . Whitefric~ with a big win over Footscray Institute, should have insured a finals berth in their first VA . FA. season . Dove : o n, kicked a huge score to trounce luckless St . Leonards . St . Andrews were pushed all the way by La Trc•ae University on their spacious oval . University High bounced back to the winning list by inflicting Old Essen . don's first defeat of the season .

Junior 2

G) G .T.V. 9 showed their talent by accounting for Old Carey, which allowed Monash Whites to capture first place following the students' big win over Parkside. Eitham took the points against Williamstown on forfeit .

Junior 3

Review Junior 1 Old Scotch, by defeating Banyule, have handed last place to Banyule . Leader Ormond, by defeating De La Salle, kept the Blue and Golds in fifth place. Old Xaverians couldn't compete with Melbourne High and as a result have dripped to fourth place. As expected, Bulleen-Templestowe comfortably defeated Nort h Old Bo,-s . The section sensation was at Parkville where Marcellin and University Blues we re one point apart at h~:lf time, before the match was cancelled by the Council . Junior 2 Old Haileybu ry received only token opposition from the Blacks, whose three sides all had a black day last Saturday! Old Melburnians had a morale boosting win over St . Bernards while leaders Collegians had an easy win over Thomastown . Therry received an eight point bonus when Old Brighton forfeited to them . Therry are now only one game outside the four . Junior 3 Old Paradians received a forfeit from Caulfield Grammarians while their opponents clashed in the mud . What an inconsistent performance from Williamstown, who went from ten goal victors to nine goal losers against Monash Blues within seven days . Fourth place was available but Williamstown didn't want it . Hampton Rover comfortably defeated Old Camberwell, while Ivanhoe suffered their second consecutive one point loss against,3 a leading side. This time St . Kilda won by the narrowest margin . Preview of August 2 Roun d D) West Brunswick showed me they are a capable side last week, and providing their players concentrate on the game, the Magpies will consolidate their D section position by defeating Old Mentonians . Balaclav ; at home to Coburg will prove far too talented for the 'Burgers' . The 'ends' fo the section meet on the Ross Gregory Oval when Monash visit Powerhouse. House obviously at their lowest point in forty years membership of the V.A .F.A . will again suffer defeat . Heatherton journey to Old Ivanhoe for what could be today's closest encounter. Old Ivanhoe may emerge victorious and thus move back to sixth place . Preston will prove too talented for No rt h Brunswick on the spacious Preston City Oval .

St . Bernards at home will account for Thomastown . Therry to journey to Old Brighton, where they should be able to avenge their club's B Section loss last Saturday . Leading sides Collegians and Oldy Haileybu ry meet at Albert Park . At home Collegians are my selection . Old Melburnians must be a hot favourite to defeat the very disappointing University Blacks.

Ivanhoe should return to the winning list by accounting for Caulfield Grammarians. Monash Blues buoyant after last week's victory, will take the points against Old Camberwell . St . Kilda will prove too strong for Hampton Rovers while their co-leader Old Paradians journey to play inconsistent Williamstown . Because the Paradian's form has been very consistent, the Green and Purples are my selection .

Persona-19W A Mrs MILESTONES AT COLLEGIAN S David Tadgell the man who said if he was 25 metres out from goal he might not make the distance, has palyed his 100th game for Collegians . Tadge joined Collegians in 1981 from Wesley College . Establishing himself in the Reserves (including the 1981 premiership side Tadge was called on to play only the occasional game in the 3rds. Senior promotion was not earnt until midway through the 1982 season After several magnificent performances in the 2nds Tadge was promoted to the Seniors where he kicked the winning goal in his debut game and was promptly dropped the next week! Despite that setback Tadge was promoted again late in the 1982 season and voted best afield in a magnificent victory for Collegians . Since that time Tadge's services have been required in both seniorsand reserves. Never altering though has been Tages team spirit and courage on the field and off it his willingness to help out around the club . Congratulations Tage from all at Collegians .

FORMER TONNER FINDS GOLD Old Brighton's Andrew Cooper was a member of the victorious Australian rowing eight that won the gold medal atthe Commonwealth games last Saturday. Andrew gave up a "promising future" in Amateur Football to attend the Institute of Sport, after playign 25 games with the Tonner's senior team . His decision proved to be corret, with the result that he took the No . 3 seat in one of Australia's most meritorious crews . Congratulations Andrew from all supporters . WHITEFRIARS New club Whitefriarsfinally gottheirfirstsocia l function off the ground last Saturday night in the form of a Bush Dance . Like their recent on field performances it was a great success with coach Ray Keane demonstrating some fancy footwork. But what about the young high flyer who danced all night with his mate's girlfriend and Stephen Santamaria's rendition of the new club song (which he claims is his original?) .

Piersonahtj Pars MILESTONE AT PRESTO N Yes Fergies finally got there, 250 games a tremendous effort to Peter Ferguson and all at Preston would like to congratulate him . Over the years Fergie has made many final appearances and his trong marking and great dash has been a greatassetto the club . His training habits have changed over the years and these days prefers doing his training by exercising his arm downing a few quiet amber fluids. Fergie has been a great clubman, being involved on the committee side of things for many years . To Peter well done ! > Also all at Preston would like to congratulate Mick Faure on reaching his 100th game against North Brunswick today . A regular senior player who has played in our last two Grand Final appearances . Whether playing forward or back Mick always shows great endeavour . Well respected by all at the club a fine effort Mick . 250 GAMES AT ELSTERNWICK Congratulations from all Elsternwick players and supporters to Paul Mahony who plays his 250th game today . Paul is one of the (in)famous Mahony clan at Elsternwick and along wit h brothers David (200 pplus)and Pat (club delegate) have given the club great service. Paul is one of the few survivors from the E Grade grand final side of 1975 . Over his career, Paul has been noted for his strong marking and his excellent goal kicking skills. At various stages of his career Paul has won Most Improved, Most Versatile and Goalkicking trophies . Playing 250 games for any club is a great achievement, Paul deserves our congratulations for achieving this feat as team man, a clubman and a gentleman . Perhaps in the future we may see some of Paul's sons playing for Elsternwick . Congratulations on a great achievement .

100th AT UNI BLACK S Simon Phillipson will celebrate his 100th game this week for Uni Blacks. Simon commenced his career in the juniors in 1980 and 1981 and advanced to the seniors in 1982 at the end of which he came third in the reserves best and fairest . 1984 was to be his year, taking over the captaincy of the reserves from "Muzza" who departed overseas, he led the side to the finals and to take out the Grand Final in convincing style . In 1985 he wasa member of the University Intervarsity Competition of which Melbourne convincingly won and earned Simon a place in the All Australian I/V side . 1986 sees Simon again captain of the reserves and hopefully the side can emulate its 1984 performance . Everyone at Blacks wishes Simon all the best in cracking the ton . Well done Simon .

200TH GAME FOR DICK MORLEY Bulleen United Captain Richard Morley chalks up his double century today against Clayton . Dick has been a prime mover for the Bulls all season, helping keep them at the top of the ladder, but this has come to be the standard he has set himself in winning Bulleen's best and fairest seven times as well as the E section best and fairest for the last three years. The dash and raking kicks out of the backline are a feature of his game and being such a keen training track performer, quite a few more seasons are expected from ourwispy blonde haired centre half back . Dick might just be a chance of pulling off his fourth best and fairest this year, lots of luck and congratulations for being the Bull's best ever footballer .

250 FOR ROSS PERRETT Earlier in the season the father alias "Jack Clarke" celebrated his 250th game for Blacks, now it's the son's turn and Ross Perrett will celebrate his 250th game for Blacks against St . Kilda this week. Unfortunately "The Ghost" alias HarryCostello is in Western Australia and will be present in spirit only. Ross's achievements and support for Blacks are monumental . He commenced in 1972 as a junior but played all senior games including reaching the Grand Final . In 1973 he was captain of the juniors and elected bestand fairest . 1984 was an excellenct yearfor Blacks taking out the "A" Section premiership of which Ross was a proud member, and his beaming face in the 1984 premiership team photo has to be seen to be believed . Ross's

achievements do not end here, in 1975 he wasa V .A .F .A . Representative, elected in the AII Australian I/V side and best and fairest also receiving full blues from the Melbourne University Football club . In 1976 he was elected best team man, 1977 captain of Blacks and I/V capatin, 1978 captain, 1979 captain leading the side into the preliminary semi final, 1980 captain, member of the state side, runner up best and fairest, MUFC certificat of merit, 1981 captain, 1984 member of the reserves grand final side . Throughout these years he also served in various capacities on the Blacks committee . All in all his career has been nothing short of outstanding as befits a member of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost Trilogy . Everyone at Blacks wishes Ross all the Bestand hopes his continued support will never wane . Well done Ross!!!!

Personality Pars 100 GAMES TO FABULOUS PHIL . The players and supporters of Old Mentonians have much pleasure in announcing that their Reserves Coach plays his 100th game against Power House this week . Phil, who now coaches the Reserves and plays, is a true inspiration to his team-mates on the field . Although Phil is the genuine Mr. Nice Guy, he's recently got tough with his charges and even swears occasionally. Known as the "Mars Bars Kid" he gives himself the energy after half-time to see the game out. A few years ago Phil came down with a serious illness, but he has finally recovered with the help of his regular prick (injection) . Hopefully as fir"st year as coach it will be his first Premiership as coach . Keep up the good work Mate. FIFTY TO HEATHY OF OLD MENTONIANS Ian Heath plays his fiftieth Senior game for the Club against Old Ivanhoe today. Heathy has a bis respect from his fellow team mates for sheer courage and tenacity. Heathy has been a very inspirationals and valuable player for Old Mentone. After the game however Ian always enjoys a drink and trys to attend as many social functions as he can . Congratulations Ian on reaching fifty_games. 32

150 GAMES TO TONNER'S DOC . John McKenzie plays his 150th game for Old Brighton today . The Doc is one of the evergreens of the club . As vice-captain of the Reserves, John never puts in a bad game . Despite his galloping gait, he still has speed and despite his lack of height, he takes may a timely mark in defence . John would have passed the double century by now, except for the many games he has missed when delivering babies at the Royal Womens' Hospital . Well done Doc, its yourcelebrations for a change . FIFTY UP FOR "THE RIDDLER" Congratulations to David "Riddles" Ridley wh o plays his 50th game today against Old Ivanhoe . Although slight in stature, Riddles is always amongst the action whether on the ground or at social functions. Playing on the forward line Riddles" always manages to sneak a few goals through the big ones and also plays a good running game as well . Well done Riddles. All hope to see you play another 50. by Noel Rundl e 5 YEARS AGO - 198 1 Old Paradians saluted 200 games for Tony Johnson who joined the club as a junior in 1967, played in the club's 1971 'B' Grade flag, won the best and fairest in 1975 and captained the team in 1978 and 1979 - and still kicks the occasional drop kick. An in the umpiring business, Brian ( Benny) Goodman also reached the 200 mark, - in 11 season, 18 finals and 17 grand finals. An in case spectators might have queried Benny's football knowledge, Benny played 105 games between 1965 and 1970 with Brunswick Amateurs, winning the club's best and fairest in 1968 and 1970 . A recurring shoulder injury curtailed his football career. De La Salle held on to fourth place and cost Ormond second spot when they trounced the 'Monds, 10 .5 to 6.12 . Best were Franetic, Brown, Connolly (De La) and Ritchie, Robertson, McCooke (Ormond) . Old Trinity, on bottom in'D', beat Old Ivanhoe by 10 points in a high standard prolific scoring game, 22 .8 to 20 .10 . Stars were O'Shanghassy (9 goals), Birrell, Wardrop (O .Trinity) and Eurrington, K . Hogan, Marshall (Old Ivanhoe) . Coaches in 'E' Section were P. Personality Pars PARKSIDE STALWART - 250 GAME S All at Parkside congratulate Robert "Abbo" Poyntz on reaching his 250th game todayagainst St. Bernards . Abbo started in 1971 with outJuniors and quickly made a name for himself as a forward . Abbo had 2 years overseas with five other Parkside players and upon his arrival back he once again became a valuable player for the Red Devils as a backman . Abbo and his lovely wife Julie are both hard workers for our club . Abbo achieved Life Membership of Parkside in 1985 . Never one to handball within 100 yards of goal, but has been known to give 5 grunts per quarter . Runner up in the Reserves best and fairfairest in 1985 and still playing well this year makesAbboa still valuable playerforthe Devils . Playing well enough to reach 300 . Once again all at Parkside salute a great player on his 250th game .

150 UP AT HEATHERTO N Tevor "Drugs" Easey follows his brother Marshall in playing 150 games at the club . Trevor started with our Juniors in 1977 and worked his way up to the seniors with gutsy consistent performances . His excellent disposal and tenacity have made him a most important member of our senior side . He really enjoyed his great game in last years Grand Final win . He has also served on the committee and helped out where possible and never misses a club function . All players and supporters look forward to his next milestone . Well done Trevor!

150 AT M .H .S .O .B . After fourteen seasons Steve Grahame gets the chance to ply his 150th game today with M .H .S .O .B . Injuries have played a major part it) preventing Steve reaching the magical "ton and a half" . Steve first joined M .H .S .O .B . as a 19 year old in 1972 where after two seasons he tried a season at Uni Blacks before returning to M .H .S .O .B . in 1975 . It was during these years that he played his best football, generally at centre half back, repelling attacks with big marks or turning defence into attack with long raking kicks or well timed runs . This form won Steve the clubs most determined award in 1977 and the appointment of club vice captain in 1978 . This year unfortunately, was to be the end of his aspirations to the club captaincy as a serious wrist injury cut short a promising career . 1979 summer pre season saw Steve once again break his wrist, so playing was out of the question, but in the true club spirit he is admired for he offered to help out by coaching the reserves for two years . During the second season of his coaching stint, Steve again suffered a serious injury, this time to his knee . It wasn't until the 84 season that he was able to resume training again using a knee brace and it is only his courage that has seen him reach 150 games as his playing aspirations now only stretch from week to week . Steve has not stopped helping the club though as he is currently coaching the reserves for the second successive year, after spending many earlier years in various committee positions . While your injuries may make ita slow process Steve, there are a lot of players and supporters who would love to see your name on the 200 game board, so keep itgoing foranothercouple of years . Congratulations from us all a t M .H .S.O .B . for today's effort.

150th AT BRUNSWICK Brunswick stalwart Gary Johnston this week plays his 150th game for the club . Gary started his career with Brunswick in 1974 and since that time has given his all for the club in every respect. When notthrowing himself intothe playon match days, he is throwing himself into club activities giving freely of his time and energy for the benefit of Brunswick . As the keeper of the "Slate" (and many other things) Johnno's remarkable memory surprises everyone . He is the only person known who can remember a 50 cent debt from 3 years ago! Well done Gary . All at Brunswick are very grateful for your untiring efforts and long after they stop making the tape that now holds your creaky joints together we know you'll be doing you best for Brunswick .

"O .M .F .C. 100 TO LETHAL LEE " The players and supporters of Old Mentonians, and particularly Reg and Ann Mickelborough are proud to announce that Lee Mickelborough plays his 100th game today . Lee is the Brad Hardy type, quiet, unassuming, small in statue but a very solid backman . The last time the ball got past Lee was when his own teammate tackled him . It has taken a while for Lee to reach 100 games and this is due to regular injury and an extended overseas holiday . Nevertheless, upon his return he took a new number, and hasn't looked back since . Lee is a regular member of the Mean Machine that makes up our backline, which is why most opposing teams have been kept to low scores . Congratulations Lee, wear that number with pride .
