Foster's LagerA symbol of Australia for almost a century. Since the Fosters brothers brewed the first distinctive Australian lager in 1888 the fame of Australia's favourite beer has grown around Australia and around the world . Foster's was first exported to South Africa during the Boer war . Today you can get a Foster's from Baghdad to Bangkok, San Francisco to Singapore . It's by far the biggest selling Australian beer in Britain . One of the top 10 selling imports in the U .S.A. Sold in every Australian state, Foster's outsells every other Australian brand of beer .

Aus ralia's favourite beer.

Marcellin's 17 point win over Old Scotch the Eagles a chance of remaining in A Section at the expense of either Old Scotch or University gives Blues . All three clubs are on 24 Points separated only by percentage . Scotch started well but Marcellin gradually got the better of the Cardinals with 5 goals in the second term and 6 goals in the third quarter . Eagle full forward Mick Day contributed 5 goals in a polished display . Caulfield Grammarians pulled the surprise of the round with their 2 goal win over De La Salle who drop to 3rd . Caulfield slipped right away in the third term and it would have been more but for missed chances . In the last quarter De La Salle came back it was their turn to miss goalscoring opportunities as is reflected with their final quarter scorecard ofbut 5 .11 . Caulfield's Mark McClelland at full back was best afield ! Ormond moved into the four with a 28 point win over Uni Blues. It was a desperate game with the lead changing many times throughout . Ormond got away in the third quarter with 4 early goals but by halfway through the last quarter Blues had reduced the lead to a goal, but could no go on with it Evergreens Bernie Angel and Mark Tyquin tried hard for U nis and . Andy Mehrten the 'Monds . Blues big chance to avoid relegation comes next week against an outreturned of form for form for the University . Ivanhoe at Ivanhoe put up an improved showing aginst North Old Boys at Elsternwick Park . They were in touch until the last break but North kicked 5 goals in the last to win by 34 points persistent. Ivanhoe missed their small men including . North were just a little more Peter Adams who has gone to Collingwood . North's win takes them into second spot, but sadly Ivanhoe now cannot avoid relegation . Collegians knocked Bulleen Templestowe out of the four with a massive 76 point win . Bulleen was fired up for this one - they got the first three goals but as we've seen on so many occasions this year Collegians won the game in the second quarter . Full forward [an Roberts was restricted to 4, but flanker Tony Baum got 5 . Will Collegians run come to an end? Four more wins will give them the premiership and a string of 17 consecutive victories . Is there any side capable of knocking them off ? We'll see tonight at 6 .40 p.m . on 774 3LO !

What a round of matches! The value of the Promotion and Relegation system in providing an even and interesting season is again evident . In A Section Caulfield's shock win over De La Salle tipped De La out of second spot and has given 'Fields breathing space in the relegation battle . Ormond returns to the top 4 after beating the Blues in a see-sawing struggle . Marcellin kept its hopes of A Section in '87 alive by downing Old Scotch and Collegians confirmed its the hottest favourite in many years with another sizzling performance . This time the victims were Bulleen Templestowe whose finals hopes are looking pretty sick . x * ~ ~x * * * *Xx~x~ I In B Section Old M elburnians caused the biggest upset possibly for the season with a huge win over Fawkner . O .M's coach A ndy Ristrom was on the phone at 5 past 9 with °You wouldn't have a clue" etc . and "please don't pick us this week" . I assured him I wouldn't!! O .M .'s win places it in a mini final against St . Bernards who, as predicted, went down to Old Brighton which kept the South road boys well in contention for survival . Old Xaverians lost its second game on end but they've a few outat present so its no need for panic stations . Parkside have probably sentO .M .'s theirthanks for paving the wayfora late finals run whilst the Blacks win is a timely warning to both Old Xavs and O .P .'s that given the right conditions that they're a real threat.

In C Section Kew opened up the final 4 battle with a great 2 point win over Banyule and O d Haileybury's win overAjax saw the Jackers relinquish the vital doulbe chance . At the othe rend of the table St. Kevins threw out a last challenge to Hampton Rovers who must now win one of its last two games to ensure survival, rather than relying on other clubs . Thus with two ronds to go we couldn't have a better or more exciting competition with every game of crucial importance . Looking now to today's winners : At Elsternwick Park a jolted De La play Bulleen Templestowe who have, fortunately for De La, lost all confidence . The match means much to both clubs and certainly to both coaches. I lean towards De La as the club has a fine record of achievement when things aren't going so well . Of late their performances have been more consistent and the fact that many of the side have played in so many finals in recent season is testimony that they can handle the pressure of big occasions . In such an even season, apart of course from the sheer brilliance of Collegians, Bulle e n Templestowe could drop this game, win the final home and home encounter and still make the four . However, I'm sure that their last ditch stand will come today . They know they can beat De La and did so convincingly back on June 14th . Perhaps the change to its canary yellow strip may provide the omen? If De La can return to its accustomed running game it should win quite easily, but I doubt whether the Bullants will be any pushover and the result probably rests on who has the greater commitment to victory . The outcome? De La's experience and steadiness suggest success today. At Flinders Park Ormond will face a desparate Old Scotch in a game of great importance for both . Ormond must win to ensure 4th spot whilst a Scotch victory would certainly take all the pressure off its last game against Ivanhoe . Ormond's record at Scotch is a poor one . However if M arcellin could penetrat the Cardinal's defence and bottle up its forwards certainly the "Monds" can do likewise and the taste of success last week may be the catalyst needed to propel the side into the finals and re charge the batteries for an all out attack on back to back flags . I'm going for Ormond whose strength at the ball and ability to cover the Old Scotch 'stars' will decide the issue . Scotch let me, and all its supporters, down last week . They were favourites and had much for which to play and yet couldn't come up with the goods . As they're still in the same boat to a great extent I've no reason to see that a week has changed things and as football means a lot mor to more of the Ormond wighteen than its opponents, the Brown and Blue's victory today should decide the A Section 4 for 1986 .

Out at M arcellin the home side will tackle the competition leaders in what will no doubt be a great c,, ; rne. I feel sorry for Marcellin meeting Collegians today, for I really believe that the Eagles are ( LirrentlY capable of beating the remaining 8 sdes at this stage of the year and especially as the win could well save them from relegation . They've won their last 3 games in good style playing honest team ;ootball and are bound to give a pretty good account of themselves today . However no matter how e11 they play. Collegians will play better . As North coach M ark Hannabery said last week when I spoke to him of the sides in the four in general and Collegians in particular, "They must be a good side they've won 13 straight" . He's right - theirball skills with hand and footare superiorto all otherteams and their running game and discipline unmatched . Sentimentcan't count here, Collegians will win because they are the best team and they've proved it not once but 13 times ! North O .B . face a danger game at home against Caulfield Grammarians whose performance in the latter half of the season has been as surprising as it has been praiseworthy . The club has shown a strength of character and willingness to survive that many thought it lacked and they are quite capable of completing the season with an even ledger . North was none too impressive last week, although I give Ivanhoe credit here as it played with much tenacity and determination . They will need to shwo more cohesiveness to beat their visitors who will certainly miss the services of Alan Nalder and David Matthews. North will be hoping for the return of Tony Egan, Luke M orse and Dominic Butera and at home should just scrape in and hold onto second spot for at least another week . Uni Blues must be glad they've such a useful percentage because it may be all that saves them from relegation . After watching Ivanhoe last week I believe they're ready for a win and today at the Uni the Blues will become their 5th success for the season . I

In B Section the big match will be played at West Essendon between St . Bernards and Old Melburnians who reckon they'll survive now because theythrashed Fawkner lastweek .'JVell I don't. I'm going forthe Bernards at home to settle the relegation issue so its Bye Bye O .M .'s . Fawkner is the other side in Navy Blue whose hopes of success in '86 will crash today . They meet top side Old Paradians at home and after last week's dismal effort can hardly be expected to upset O .P .'s . They will live to regret that stumble at "Fawkner" Park . Surely Old Xavs couldn't lose 3 in a row and so I'm tipping them to restore some lost confidence by beating St . Kilda CBOC and Parkside should cement its place in the B Section 4 by toppling Brighton who nonetheless will be looking for an upset to keep their hopes alive of remaining ; ,Section . In the final game The Blacks showed me last week thattheycan playand in fact are a threat -)r later honours and so I can't go against them at Therry today . . ~ ~ ~ ~ tx * x * * * . ~ * What a game awaits the C Section followers at Heidelberg Park when Banyule take on Old Haileybury . The winner knows it will play in the finals and for the loser its moth balls . The Bloods won the early encounter, in fact they've beaten al l the top sides at home and will welcome the return of "Frosty" M iller after a 6 week "rest" . However Banyule is also a good side on its own ground and I believe this decided advantage will give Banyule the edge and put paid to the Haileybury challenge for 1986 . In other gamesAjax will return to the winning listat the expense of Old Camberwell, Thomastown will have too much at stake to d rop a game to Melbourne High, Old Trinity will look for a percentage booster against the Rovers and Kew will remain in the hunt by beating St . Kevins at Kooyong , ~ri * nx~ * x * . * ~ I ~ ;

enthuse over I select Power House purley on sentiment (I once played with 'House) . Northern neighbours Preston and Old Ivanhoe meet on Sullivan Reserve . Preston will prove victorious as they ill not want a repeat of last weeks' loss at this stage of the season .

Norm Nugent Reviews and Previews D, E, F, G and U19 Matches

REVIEW OF ROUND 16 MATCHES PLAYED AUGUST 9 D . Leaders Monash Blues completely overwhelmed West Brunswick by thirty-eight goals . The Magpies could still face relegation unless they improve in the last two rounds . Balaclava had three goals to spare against Old Mentonians to show their potential on the eve of the finals . Preston joined along line of leading teams which have come to grief at Coburg over many seasons . The defet should cause the Marist Old Boys to re-group for the finals . Heathe rton had a fifty seven point victory over Powerhouse who are now E Section bound for the first time in their forty season history . The closest game of the round saw Old Ivanhoe defeat North Brunswick by five points . The northerners valiantly tried to avert relegation . Luckily for them they can try again today . E . Brunswick surprised with a big win over Peninsula . Brunswick have proven an inconsistent side this season while Peninsula dropped its second successive game . Hardly a final's confidence booster! Clayton, as expected, comfortably defeated University Reds who will return to F Section come 1987 . Only inaccuracy in the Albert Park winds prevented Elsternwick having a huge win over Williamstown, who have not proven capable of reaching the standard required of E Section teams . State Bank, relishing Albert Park conditions had an overwhelming victory over St. Bede's . F. La Trobe overwhelmed the disappointing A.N .Z . Bank whose players couldn't handle the big Bundoora ground . Doveton made sure that it will not miss the finals on percentage when it easily accounted for Footscray Institute . Likewise Whitefriars consolidated their finals position with a comfortable victory over Commonwealth Bank. St. Leonards proved no match for second placed University High School Old Boys, while St . Andrews forfeited their place in the top four with their disappointing performace against leaders Old Essendon . G . Monash Whites had only the barest margin to spare against G .T .V.9, whereas Parkside displayed great form to defeat an undermanned Eltham . The Parkside precision with Crosling, Bastow and Harveystarring looked ominous fortheir opposing finalists . Unfortunately Williamstown wereforced to forfeit to Old Carey . JUNIOR 1 Melbourne High received a walkover from Banyule, while De La Salle re-entered the top four following their fifty eight point victory over University Blues . Lowly Old Scotch continued their recent fine form to comfortably defeat Marcellin . Leaders Ormond had a nine goal margin over North Old Boys who now face relegation . Second side Bulleen Templestowe were able to defeat OIG Xaverians by a comfortable margin which meant the Xaverians slipped from the top four. JUNIOR 2 . Therry's uncanny accuracy kept St . Bernard's winning margin to fourteen points . Thomastowns's thirty point victory overOld Melburnians gave evidence that their lack of consistency has cost the Bears dearly this season . Section leaders Collegians and Old Haileybury had big wins against University Blacks and Old Brighton respectively. JUNIOR 3 . C .B .C . St. Kilda had a big victory over Caulfield Grammarians while co-leaders OIC Paradians received a walkover from lowly Old Camberwell . The other Section finalists Ivanhoe and Hampton Rovers had huge wins over Monash Blues, who were held goalless, and 'Williamstown respectively . The Williamstown side showed marked inconsistency byfollowing a thirteen point loss to Old Paradians with a two hundred and thirty five point loss to Hampton Rovers . PREVIEW OF AUGUST 16 GAME S D . Magpie coloured sides West Brunswick and Heatherton will meet on the small Ransford Oval . Their 1986 form leads me to select Heatherton . Top sides Balaclava and Monash Blues meet at Balaclava . Statistically the sides have practically equal forward skills although the students have the stronger defence . With so much prestige going to the winner, I select Monash Blues . Old Mentonians make the long journey to Coburg still hopeful of gaining the double chance . The Mentonian defence will frustrate Coburg forwards and enable their own forwards to kick a winning score . Relegation favourites Power House and North Brunswick meet on the Ross Gregory Oval . As neither side has done anything to 6 THE AMATEUR FOOTBALLER 1986

E . Brunswick await Williamstown who are experiencing a disappointing season . At home Brunswick is my selection . Bulleen United will be anxious to defeat Peninsula Old Boys to further assert thei r authonty with the approach of the finals . I select Bulleen United . Clayton at home will be too strong for Old Geelong who have not enjoyed their best season . Finalists Elsternwick and State Bank meet on Elsternwick Park No . 2 . The small ground will not assist the Bankers who do no play tigerish football away from Oval 4 . Elsternwick is my selection . The disappointing University Red will meet St. Bede's on Sunday. St . Bedes will prove too talented and will take the points . F . A .N .Z. Bank even at home will not be talented enough to defeat University High School Old Boys who will be anxious to keep winning prior to the finals. Two disappointing sides in Footscray and LaTrobe meet at Footscray . Statistically there is little between the sides so I select Footscray on te strength of home ground advantage and university vacation . Commonwealth Bank will be at home to Doveton who are now likely finalists . Providing Doveton play the Harry Trott Oval correctly they will emerge victorious. St . Leonards on form will not be strong enough to defeat leaders Old Essendon . In a possible semi-final preview Whiefriars await St . Andres. Both of these sides have made auspicious debuts in the V .A .F .A . and there is little between them in talent . Home ground advantage prompts me to select Whitefriars . G . Leading sides Monash White and Old Carey meet at the university for what could be a Grand Final preview . Old Carey is my selection after what promises to be a close game . Eltham at home will offer strong opposition to G .T.V .9 . However I believe G .T.V .9 will have sufficient talent to emerge with the points . Parkside have now found top form and this morning they will prove too talented for Williamstown . JUNIOR 1 Disappointing University Bles will not be sufficiently talented to defeat Melbourne High School who will be all out to consolidate third place . Rapidly improving Old Scotch will threaten De La Salle's final four position . If De La are to be considered worthy finalists they must win this game convincingly. I thing they will! Leading side Ormond and Bulleen Templestowe meet on the Gunn Reserve . Ormond should prove worthy of top position by defeating the Bu!!ants . Marcellin will be at home to Old Xaverians who must win to have any hope of returning to the four. Statistically there is little between the sides after sixteen rounds so I am struggling to select the winner . The Xaverian side is studded with former A .P .S . stars who are finding the transition to senior footba!l difficult . I select the Red and Blacks without any degree of confidence . No rth Old Boys, in theory can avoid relegation, so they will be all out to build percentage against lowly Banyule . North will win well . JUNIOR 2 . St . Bernards at home will be too strong forThomastown who will not surrender without a big effort. I forecast a narrow St . Bernards victory . Old Brighton await Therry who should prove too strong for the home side . Old Haileybury await the disappointing University blacks whose team will be further weakened by the vacation . Old Haileybury should win well . Finalists Old Melburnians and Collegians will meet on the big Cordner Oval . Old Melburnians will be anxious to atone for last week's loss but they will find Collegians too talented . JUNIOR 3 . Leaders Old Paradians journey to Albert Park to play Caulfield Grammar. Without Michael Doherty at the helm the Paradians may struggle . Added to this, their form at Albert Park two weeks ago wasn't their best, nevertheless I cannot believe that Caulfield will defeat Parade . C .B .C . St. Kilda will prove far too strong for Old Camberwell . Fourth placed Hampton Rovers will prove too strong for Monash Blues for whom season 1986 has not been successful . Ivanhoe at home should prove far too strong for an inconsistent but nonetheless talented Williamstown .

Peason ersonality Pars 100th GAME AT CAULFIELD Congratulations from everyone at Caulfield Grammarians to Stephen Allen who played his 100th game for the club in the match against Collegians . The guru began with the club in 1981 and has played many fine games in both attack and defence for the seniors and, of late, in the reserves . In fact, it is not unusual to see him play in four or five different key positions throughout the day during a reserves match in an attempt to lift the side . Although not a noted performer on the training track, Stpehen has been a very active and enthusiastic member of the social committee, and has been responsible for the running of many successful and enjoyable function . Well done Guru, anr+ keep up the qood work . THE AMATEUR FOOTBALLER

The match against Collegians also saw David Gregor celebrate his 100th game for Caulfield Grammarians . Cougar played a handful of junior games for the club in 1979 and 1980 before establishing himself as a senior player in 1981 and making a name for himself as one of the best fu!l backs in the competition . A serious shoulder injury in 1983 proved to be only a temporary setback, as he came back as good as ever and is one of the most consistent players in the side. A very popular and respected member of the club, David is also the Players' representative on the committe and is a great contributor to the successful running of the club . Congratulations Gar, from all at Caulfield and we look forward to you playing a leading role in the club for many years to come .

BEST V.A.F .A . TO V .F.L . TEAM by Noel Rundl e I think there is a certain sadism in Peter French's character. Wherever I go from now on in V .A .F .A . circles, I'm sure to be assailed for the selection, or omission, of a particular player . However, I was delighted to be asked to pick the team . As some background I can say I first saw V.F .L . football about 1943 so I did no see some of the pre-war stars play . In selecting the team I imagined that it would be playing against an All Stars V .F .L . side . I therefore selected a well balanced team, physically strong, skilful and with the capacity of a number of players to be switched to cover any weakness . thanks are due to Percy Beames and Bob Daisfortheir help - they certainly disagree with some of my selections, but helped in assessing certain players .

Back pocket - Many talented players, including David Parkin (Haw), Neil Crompton (Melb), Brian Walsh (St .Kilda), Geoff Ainsworth (Geelong), John Benetti (Carlton), Terry Callen (Geelong), with the last named Old Xaverian being selected . A skilful, speedy medium sized player, Callen was capable of handling the slickest of forward pocket rovers . Terry's career was cut short by a bad knee injury . Full Back is no contest - Geoff Southby (Carlton) who features always as one of the three best full backs of all time. Half back flanks went to Mark Browning (Swans), pacy, superb ball handler, great kick, perhaps a little loose, and a tough close playing Magipe, Peter Lucas . Centre half back to be picked from Neil Roberts (St. Kilda - Brownlow Medalist), Ron Bywater(S .M . _ Runner up Brownlow Medal), Mike Perry ( Richmond 1967 Premiers) - wou ld any of the th ree be quick enough to hold Hart, Baldock or Jesaulenko? I doubt it, and perhaps a little unfairly, I picked a player whose name was not published in the lists, the former Melbourne champion, Don Williams, who came from Elsternwick . Don played most of his football on the flank - howevera magnificent high mark and very pacy, I think Don would be the man to test the three star forwards . In the Centre, Laurie Mithen (Melbourne) who in his only season of amateurfootball won the'A'section best and fairest, scoring 25 votes to win by 7 votes from Old Melbournian, Peter Cox, Alan La Fontaine (Melbourne), centre in Melbourne's 1939, 1940 and 1941 premiership teams, a player Percy Beames never saw beaten and gae 95% for skill . Then again Mithen played centre in Melbourne's Premiership teams and Lou Richards in the first edition of his book "Boots and All" (was there a second edition?) picked Laurie as the best centreman that he'd seen (it must be stated that the book was written pre Ian Stewart days) . Another possibility was Ken Melville (Melbourne) who kept Laurie Mithen out of the centre for a couple of years . Peter French suggest in the "A .F ." that I'd show some bias . I played at Ormond with Laurie and he was a superb player . In Mithen'sfavourwas that he was biggerand stronger, but notougherthan La Fontaine or Melville . He could however play at full forward and centre half forward and turned games for Melbourne when placed there . On the wings, Brian Dixon (Melbourne) and Bertie Dipierdomenico (Hawthorn) . Brian Dixon was an ungainly player with an ugly kicking style, a magnificentball getter, tremendous courage, and probably beaten only twice in his career - once in 1963 by John Cahill who starred in S .A .'s defeat of Victoria on the M .C .G ., and again when Geelong placed ex W .A. champion Denis Marshall on Dixon and played through Marshall capitalising on his greater skill and speed . Dipierdomenico's performances are very well-known . Another possibility was Bill Brown (Richmond), a smaller skilful ball player with explosive pace who could perhaps have been switched to roving . Half forward flanks went to Geoff Tunbridge (Melbourne) and David McMahon (Fitzroy) . Geoff Tunbridge, an incredibly fast and clever palyer with "choir boy looks" and the worst looking kicking style ever shown by a champion and yet a truly accurate shot for goal . David McMahon, strong, good team player, magnificent kick, who could paly centre, half back or ruck rover . At centre half forward Phonse Kyne may be a surprise . In this most difficult of positions, there were few to select from . However, to quote from Stremski's "Kill for Collingwood", Phonse Kyne records that "Everyone remembered me as a ruckman, but I played my best football when I was a centre half forward in the 1935 and 1936 premierships" . Stremski states that the goal to goal line of Jack Regan, Albert Collier, Marcus Whelan, Phonse Kyne, Gordon Coventry was Collingwood's best line of all time . Graeme Atkinson's "The Book of V .F .L. Finals" confirms Kyne's great play as a centre half forward . For full forward I have picked the athletic Ian Graham, good enough to be in that position in Collingwood's 1964 and 1966 grand final teams . With this team in frontof him Ian would be capable of kicking at least5 goals a game irrespective of how good the opposition was . A possible for this position was Neil Roberts who started his career at full forward in a very weak St. Kilda team . Unbelievable talent was available for the rucks - Don and Denis Cordner, Gary Dempsey, Chris Mtichell, Neville Crowe, John Kennedy, Dick Fenton-Smith, Ray Gabelick, John Winneke . the name of Bill Morris appeared in the original list of players . However, records available do not indicate that Bill played any games with Old Scotch, or any amateur team . If he had, he would have been the first ruck selection . No one ever speaks of Denis Cordner (Melbourne) other than to say what a very great player he was . Denis was a tireless high leaping ruckman who was a skilled ball handlerwith enough pace for today's style of game . As ruck rover David Shaw (U . Blues), a very versatile player, would fit very well into the team . David who played centre half forward with Blues found the celebrated Ken Fraser in that position at Essendon . As a mark of his versatility David played back pocket in Essendon's 1962 Premiership and then ruck rover in the 1965 team thatalso won the flag . David would be able to change with David McMahon on the flank . The other two ruckman would be Ray Gabelick (Collingwood) and Neville Crowe (Richmond), in backand forward pockets respectively . Ian Graham was a f.ast leading full forward and any of the three ruckmen could paly the ruckman-goal square role well . Should the centre half forward be too big for Don Williams, Ray Gabelich could go to centre half back, a position he played well in interstate matches for W .A . There were surprisingly few rovers to pick from, but the quality was certainly there . I went for Ian Law (Hawthorn) and Ross Smith (St . Kilda) one a Brownlow runner-up and the othera medallist . Othergood players were John Newnham (Fitzroy) and Steven Clark (Essendon) who probably has his best football ahead of him .

On the bench, Ken Melville, Steven Clark and Alan La Fontaine (Melbourne) - the team has enough big men and key position players to cover any injury. As captain I have selected Phonse Kyne, with Denis Cordner as vice . To be coach, John Kennedy (Hawthorn), the man to handle a team of champions and even if he disagreed with the selected team, woudl not comment other than to say "We'I I go with what we've got" . To deliver the messages with speed, style and force, who better than the pacy, icy-blue-eyed devotee of Kennedy, John Fisher (Hawthorn, who could also slip into the coaching role should John Kennedy be absent. As trainer I would pick Larry Maddison whose great career encompasses the 1945 Services-Cricket Team, Ormond's 1950 'A' Section Premiership, Fitzroy Football Club (you may recall the day he `brushed aside" Greaeme Teasdale (S.M .) when running to Gary Wilson's rescue) and is currently masseur to the International Ladies' Tennis players . He certainly has the fire and skill for the job . For Doctor, our own Brian Costello (Uni Blacks) whose quiet judgement has been invaluable to coaches and whose knowledge and care has helped cure so many players. Properties are Lou Arnold (St . Bernards), transportand baggage with 'Nugget' Stephens (Old Geelong), Tony O'Callaghan (De La Salle) will look after gear, while lack of modest enables me to pick myself (Ormond) and John Dillon (De La Salle) as Managers - an undefeated record in that role to date . 200 GA M ES - W.BRUNS . CHAMPIO N All at West Brunswick would like to congratulate Steve Lampard on playing his 200th game today against Heatherton . "Lampy" joined the club in 1975 as a fresh faced youth and played with the U19's in the ruck - giving every player a dream run with accurate tap outs and strong sheperding . Promoted to the seniors the following year Lampy was content to play second fiddle to Bruce Ivery and with those two champions controlling the ruck duels, it was no wonder the club were premiers and champions that year . Lampy was given a stint at full back for a couple of years and would strike terror into the hearts of oppostion forwards as he cam charging through ina David Dench likefashion . Following Bruce's retirement, Lampy was the senior ruckman and accepted the challenge with great gusto : so much so that he won the clubs best and fairest in 1984 and 1985 . This year he is club captain and his leadershipand dedication isa greatexample to all players around the club . Ably supported by Desley over the years, all at West look forward to more great football from a champion playing his 200th today . Seen chatting in the rooms after last Saturday's game were lookalikes Fraser Simpson (Old Geelong's captain) and field umpire Peter Harris. Quite a case of crannial glare! (Thank goodness Reserves coach Dale Fraser didn't join the group, we would all have needed sunglasses) . What a wonderful contribution Peter has made to Amateur Football - over 400 games as a player forAlphington, and since retiring, as an umpire for the last two or three season . Keep it going, Peter, your efforts are greatly appreciated . 150 GAMES John Brassil plays his 150th game for Kew today. John, a former U19 player has had a chequered career winning a reserves Most Determined Trophy in 1980 to being reserves captain in 1983, but like a good wine has matured with age to gain a place on the forward line in the seniors. Congratulations John and good luck for today and the next 50 .

50 UP AT O .M .F.C. All at O .M .F .C . congratulate Geoff "Racehorse" Burns on reaching 50 games . Geoff who, although having missed a few games lastseason, has regained the form he had and is a regular running player either on the wing or a forward flank . At the moment he is trying to establish himself as a senior player by getting a regular run off the bench . All the best Geoff and everyone hopes the speed you possess carries on for another 50.

50 GAMES UP FOR SAINT All At St. Andrews would like to congratulate Patrick Little who will today play his 50th game for the club . "Paddy" has established himself as a solid straight through defender, who if moved into attack can always manage to snag a goal or two . In his third season, today will be the most important match in which Paddy has participated, and we are sure that all at St. Andrews will be doing the utmost to ensure your 50th game is a winning one . 50 GAMES AT UNI BLACK S Shane "Jack Demo" Dempsey commenced with the Blacks as a junior in 1984 but played seniorfootball . Drifting around half forward flank, Jack has been known to kick a lazy seven with consumate ease . In 1984 Jack also play I/V football, in 1985 he was elected All Australian captain of the I/V side . In 1986 he lead the Melbourne Uni I/V side again to victory . Jack is a fairly quiet fellow off the ground as befits a man from Stoney Creek . His ultra ego "Demo" can be found late at night at parties, practising for his future employment with Wheelan the Wrecker . Everyone hopes Jack can overcome illness to play this week, as he was missed against St . Kilda . All the best for your 50th game Jack from the Blacks. ST . LEONARDS ANNUAL DINNE R St . Leonards players and supporters are reminded of the Annual Dinner and presentation of awards night, to be held at the Sandringham Club on the 7th September at 7 .30 . It promises to be a great night . All players and supporters welcome . $15 .00 a head . KEW M ILESTONE S 50 GAMES Ron Wolfe began with Ke wduring 1983 in the U19s . After winning the coach's trophy in hisfirstseason Ron was elected captain of the U19s for 1984 . He then graduated to the reserves wehre he won Most Promising Player and to 1986 when good form has seen him play several games in the seniors . Ron's sporting life is very full with Major League Indoor Cricket, Athletics and Life Saving duties at the South Melbourne Club not to mention football . Congratulations Ron and good luck for today and the next 50 .

Personality Pars 100 UP FOR THE "PENCIL" Everyone at O.M .F.C. congratulate Stephen "Pencil" Crick on reaching his 100th game . Cricky has played very well so far this year, consolidating his place in the seniors. Like a typical backman, Cricky loves taking spectacular grabs, some of which come off . A dashing backman he also enjoys a run up the field . After the game he enjoys a beer, and who can mistake his shout of "Yes" at a certain table after Thurday's training . Well done Steve and lets hope another 100 isn't far away.

His club loyalty, dedication and spirit earnt him the bestclubman trophy while his gutsy, tenacious style of play was rewarded with the position of deputy vice captain of the reserves this season . Congratulations Colin from all players, committee and supporters at M .H .S .O .B . as we look forward to you reaching 100 games in the near future .

MILESTONE AT COLLEGIAN S Congratulations are extended to Rodd y Walker who played his 100th game for Collegians against Old Scotch 4 weeks ago . Roddy joined Collegians from G .G .S . after a distinguished career in the 1 st XVI I I which saw him in 1979 topthe goal kicking with ten goals . Upon joining Collegians Roddy's goal scoring ability was immediately recognized and he was palyed mainly in the reserves forward line . However it was a shift to the backline that led to higher honours . Adapting quickly to the demands of defensive play Roddy earned promotion to the senior side late in the 1982 season where he proved a very valuable player on the half back flank . In 1983 Roddy was tried at full back and revealed to the footballing world the "Walker Short Pass", where the full back when kicking in short passes to the opposition full forward . This new tactic never really caught on (although Hourd" tried a version of it against Caulfield ) and subsequently Roddy has palyed very little of his football at full back . In recent years due to ncreasing work committments Roddy's football has been mainly confined to the reserves where he has been a very valuable player whether in attack or defence . Congratulation on you 100th game Rodney, well played!!

150 FOR GOLDY AT M .H .S .O .B . A football career at Melbourne High School which started in 1971 today passes a significant milestone for [an Goldsmith when he plays his 150th game . While still at school in 1972 Ian was school captain as well as captain of the Under 19s, after winning the most consistent player award the previous season . 1972 was also the year that almost ended a promising football career for Ian as he suffered a serious knee injury in only his second game with the seniors in A Section . Although the knee injury slowed his progress, Ian has still proved to be a very versatile and reliable player whether it has been long runs from the backline of kicking goals on the forward line . While he has been a great contributor on the field he has also shown tremendous club spirit off the field putting in many years on the committee particularly in the bar/ canteen and social areas, culminating in his winning the Sam Silberberg trophy for the best clubman in 1980 . Its great to see you back playing again Goldy and in wishing you all the best for todays game the committee, players and supporters hope you can keep the legs going for another 50games to notch the double asterisk on the games board .

CENTURY AT OLD BRIGHTO N Tony Grant today plays his 100th game for Old Brighton . Tony played his first game back in 1980 and over the years his skills have steadily improved . He is now regularly in the best players for the senior side, often creating attacking moves and at times kicking the vital goal that lifts the team . He was best on the ground in last Saturday's victory . tony has been runner-up, best and fairest and played in a senior premiership side . If the Tonners can get Tony and his brothers, Peter and Andrew, all playing together again next year, they will be a real force . Congratulations Tony from all supporters . WEDDING BELLS After all the Engagements at Old Xaverians this season we now have "Wedding Bells" . RecentlyGeoff Greetham married Megan Sowersby at the Xavier Chapel and the couple have been honeymooning in Honolulu . Geoff's team mates and supporters wish you both all the happiness for the future .
