ZHIMIN HU
A documentary revealing the nuances of mixed relationships between first-generation Chinese and Canadians, while exploring historical taboos and the criminalization of interracial relations in Canada. The film follows 5 couples in different age groups as they contend with communication challenges, relationships with extended family, differing food habits, financial conflict, interpretation of intimacy, and how their relationships were shaped by the history of mixed relationships in Canada since the 1930’s. Born and raised in GuangZhou, China and now based in Toronto, ZHIMIN HU is a ChineseCanadian independent filmmaker. Her works include SOPHIE’S LETTER, A COLD SUMMER NIGHT, and I’M WAITING FOR MAMA, which have won acclaim at international and local film festivals.
