The Bridge Builder By Will Allen Dromgoole (This poem speaks of each generation‟s responsibilities to its successors.) An old man going a lone highway, Came at the evening, cold and gray, To a chasm, vast, and deep, and wide, Through which was flowing a sullen tide. The old man crossed in the twilight dim; The sullen stream had no fears for him; But he turned, when safe on the other side, And built a bridge to span the tide.
RIVERVIEW BAPTIST CHRISTIAN SCHOOL A Ministry of Riverview Baptist Church 4921 W. Wernett Pasco, WA 99301 Revised for 2015-2016
“Old man,” said a fellow pilgrim near, “You’re wasting strength in building here; Your journey will end with the ending day, You never again must pass this way; You have crossed the chasm deep and wide— Why build you a bridge at the eventide?” The builder lifted his old, gray head: “Good friend, in the path I’ve come,” he said, “There followeth after me today A youth, whose feet must pass this way. This chasm, that has been naught to me, To that fair haired youth may a pitfall be. He too must cross in the twilight dim; 28 Good friend, I am building that bridge for him.”

STATEMENT OF FAITH & PURPOSE Riverview Baptist Christian School is a ministry of Riverview Baptist Church and is established primarily to educate the children of RBC families. The children of families outside the church may attend RBCS if they meet the appropriate requirements and are approved by the Pastor & Principal. Guidelines for this are detailed in the admissions policy section of this handbook. Each student should know and understand the basic tenets of our Christian Faith. A brief summary of the Statement of Faith of the Riverview Baptist Church of Pasco, Washington is as follows: 1. We believe that the Old and New Testaments are divinely inspired word for word. We accept the Textus Receptus manuscripts, from which came the King James Bible. The King James Bible is God‟s inspired Word for English speaking peoples and is the only Bible which will be used in scripture memorization, Bible study and Bible reading. 2. We believe in the Triune God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) 3. We believe in the fallen nature of man and his just condemnation because of sin. 4. We believe in the Eternal Security of the Believer. 5. We believe that Jesus Christ, eternally existing is the only begotten Son of God, born of a virgin, and is true God and true man. 6. We believe in and practice the two ordinances of Baptism by Immersion and the Lord‟s Supper. 7. We believe in the prominence of the local and visible church. 8. We believe in a literal Heaven and a literal Hell. 9. We believe in the honoring of civil government. 10. We believe in the personal, imminent return of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
26
11. We believe that parents are primarily responsible before God for the rearing of children and that RBCS is an extension of the parents „ value system for the purpose of 3 the education of the child.

Enrollment Information Admission Policies Riverview Baptist Christian schools are open to students of any race, color or ethnic group so long as they qualify under the following guidelines:
My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways. Proverbs 23:26 It’s all a Matter of the Heart! We must teach our children to love the Lord with all their hearts. We must set the supreme example by loving Jesus and being faithful in serving Him! Life is not just following a set of rules but building strong relationships, first with the Lord Jesus Christ and then with our families. And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
1. Families of RBC have priority in the admitting of students at RBCS. 2. Students from families who are not members of Riverview Baptist Church may be admitted to RBCS under the following conditions: a. In Grades 7-12 at least one parent must attend a Bible Believing Baptist Church of like convictions. The student must have a recommendation of their pastor. c. Non-Member applicants must be approved by the administration.

Be a Student who: Honors their Father & Mother! Gives their best effort in everything! Brings Glory to God by their actions! Seeks to do the Will of God!
SPECIAL NOTE REGARDING A LONG STANDING POLICY… A Student of Riverview Baptist Church may not participate in any public school sports during the regular school year. To do this would, in our opinion, go directly against why we have a separated Christian School. Summer leagues and programs are left to the parents‟ discretion but RBCS does not support participation in any of these. While other schools may allow this and while government schools may allow this policy, Riverview Baptist Christian School does NOT ALLOW this practice for it‟s students. This includes25 the “Running Start” program as well. 23
General Demerit Guidelines 1. Demerits may be issued by any staff member or volunteer. 2. Demerits are due at 8:30 a.m. on the third day after the demerit is issued. 3. The Demerit slip must be signed by a parent or guardian. 4. Any Demerit that is not turned in on the due date and time be comes doubled and the student is placed on “In-School Suspension” until the demerit is completed properly. 5. Students not completing the demerit during the In-School Suspen sion time will not be allowed back in school until the work is totally and properly completed. Any classes missed results in an unexcused absence. 6. Demerits must be written in legible cursive writing with an ink pen (same color). 7. Demerits must be written only by the student receiving them. 8. Demerits make a student ineligible until completion. 9. Any effort to “cheat” in completing of the demerit will result in swats. 10. At the end of a quarter, all demerits will be removed and count starts over. BUS DEMEANOR Students riding the Ben Franklin Transit System are under the direction of their parents. However any student who is “kicked off” the bus will be expelled from RBCS also!
Corporal Punishment Policy Believing that spanking a child is a scriptural discipline when administered with love, a child may need to receive a spanking for misbehavior as outlined in the handbook under the discipline section. The following scriptures give us the guidelines for loving discipline of our children. Proverbs 13:24, 19:18, 20:30,23:13-14,29:15 and Hebrews 12:5-6. If a spanking becomes inevitable the following procedure will be followed: 1. The child will be talked with and will know exactly why they are being spanked. 2. The child will not be restrained in any way. 3. A child will be paddled by the principal with another adult staff member (preferably of the same sex as the child) present. 4. No more than 3 swats will be administered. 5. The child will be prayed with and encouraged to DO RIGHT the next time. 6. A note will be sent home with the child to be signed by the parent 24 and returned with the child on the following day. 7. Records of the spanking are kept in the school office. 22
Financial Policies 1.
Current tuition rates can be obtained by calling the Riverview Baptist business office during office hours at 509-547-2021.
2.
Registration and first month‟s tuition must be paid before entering school. A student may not register if an outstanding balance from the previous year is due. Likewise, a student may not enroll in summer school if the school bill from the preceding year is unpaid.
3.
Each month‟s tuition is due on the 5th of each month. After the fifteenth of that month a late fee of $25 will be charged. There will be a $25 charge for checks returned to us from the bank due to non-sufficient funds.
4.
If the school bill is unpaid for 45 days and arrangements have not been made with the principal the student will be financially withdrawn and not allowed to attend classes until the bill has been paid in full.
5.
Tuition for RBCS is based on a school-year rate, but is divided into ten equal installments for the parents convenience. The first installment is due on the first of September and the last is due on the first of June. Book and pace charges will be added to the bill each month.
6.
Parents will receive a bill each month. However, should a billing be delayed or lost it is still the responsibility of the parent to see that the installment is paid.
7.
Graduating Seniors must remit their final (June) payment, together with all fees, before they can receive their diplomas. A graduation fee of $25 for seniors and $20 for kindergartners will be billed in January and must be paid before commencement.
8.
Report cards or records of credits are not released until all payments and fees have been paid.
9.
If a student has attended one day of a given month, he is responsible for payment of the entire month‟s tuition.
10. Money is Ministry and when we all do our part financially, the ministry can flourish and be that which the Lord would have it!
The SCHOOL BILL is not a lesser bill and should not be set aside. It should be paid first, right after the tithe. The school bill is NOT your tithe. Please help us 5 meet our financial obligations and endeavor to have a great testimony financially for the Lord! 3
GENERAL POLICIES ABSENCES Attendance habits, which are established during the first school experience, tend to follow the child throughout his/her schooling. While we recognize that the student belongs to the parent, good character dictates that a person, especially a child, needs the structure and regularity of regular attendance. Any absence will require that a note be brought from home explaining the reason for the absence. A student must be in class for a minimum of 25 minutes in order to be counted present for that class. EXCUSED ABSENCES Absences are “Excused” if the student is sick, if there is a death in the immediate family, or a vacation trip is planned at least one month in advance and plans reported to the principal. The student will have full “make-up” privileges for work missed. He will be allowed one day for each day missed up to three days to get his make up work and tests completed. Work which is not completed and turned in will be assessed a grade of “0”. A total of 25 absences per year will prompt consideration by the administration to see whether the student will be allowed promotion to the next grade or held back. In some cases a student may be dismissed from school for excessive absences. *** In HIGH SCHOOL a total of 5 or more total absences in a given class in a quarter will result in 5 points off for each class grade for that quarter. . In the case of sickness, if a student has a note from his doctor, his grade will not be affected. UNEXCUSED ABSENCES Absences from school for reasons other than those stated above will be considered “Unexcused”. Students bear the responsibility of informing parents of class tasks due, such as tests, quizzes or homework. Any tests, quizzes, projects, etc. due that day will receive a grade of “64”. A student with an unexcused absence must bring a parental note to the school office explaining a reason for the unexcused absence. Excessive unexcused absences will certainly hinder the student‟s success in school and may result in dismissal from the school. TARDINESS 1. A child is tardy if he/she is not in her place when the first bell signaling the beginning of the class period sounds. 2. A Student who is tardy must report to the office and receive a pass before going to class. Failure to do this results in demerits. 3. NO TARDINESS IS CONSIDERED EXCUSED OR UNEXCUSED!! 4. A Tardy is considered an infraction and the third infraction, for any reason results in a demerit. 6 5. A student who is more than twenty minutes late for a class is counted absent from that class. 4
8. Student who runs away from home or aids another student in running away from home. 9. Participating in Web sites deemed unacceptable. (My Space) 10. Willful disregard of the dress code. Receiving in excess of five (5) demerits in a quarter renders that student ineligible for extracurricular activities, including sports, for the remainder of the quarter or three weeks, whichever is longer. None of these lists is intended to be exhaustive. We realize that, should a person of questionable character desire to do so, he could easily discover some restriction or expectation not mentioned above and violate the intents and purposes of RBCS. Our desire is not that they merely obey the letter of the law, but that they more abide by the spirit of the law. Any student who is interested in “doing his own thing” will not be happy in the atmosphere of RBCS. But, the student who desires to become a part of the program in the spirit of enthusiastic participation will look back on his years here, thanking God for the opportunities he was offered. No one becomes spiritual by simply observing rules, however, we believe that the spiritually minded student will desire to abide by the rules and regulations established by God‟s ordained authority. A Junior High and High School student must express a desire to be here. NO ONE will be forced to attend unwillingly. The Administration of Riverview Baptist Christian School reserves the right to alter or amend its rules or regulations at any time.

Alumni and/or graduated seniors will not be allowed on school property before, during, or after school hours to meet a student. Parents must meet with the principal or pastor before enrollment will be considered for next year. It is the desire of the administration to be of service to both the parents and 20 the students. RBCS expects full cooperation from both the student and parent in the education and discipline of the student. If at any time the school feels that the cooperation is lacking, the student may be requested to withdraw. 18

PROGRESS REPORTS The school year is divided into four nine-week grading periods. Approximately every 15 days during each nine week period a progress report will be sent home with each student. The report will be for each student who has a grade below the “C” average or is behind in their pace work. These progress reports are to notify parents of the progress of each student, especially of those who are not performing at a passing grade level. This notice is to be signed by the parents and returned the next day. A quarterly report card will be issued for each student showing their current grades in all subjects. Appropriate action by the parents, either praise for a job well done, or encouragement to bring those grades up.
When choosing lunch boxes, book bags, notebooks, trapper keepers, or spiral notebooks, please keep the following in mind: 1. There MUST NOT BE any pictures of worldly cartoon pictures or movie personalities that exalt ungodliness and unacceptable behavior. 2. No rock, country or contemporary music stars. 3. Any toys brought from home with the permission of the teacher must meet the above guidelines. HOT LUNCHES AND SNACKS

Students will not be permitted to purchase snacks or pop from the vending machines until their lunch break. Parents and Grandparents are allowed and encouraged to eat lunch with their child. Please follow student dress guidelines.
DISCIPLINE AND DEMERITS Believing that discipline is necessary for the welfare of the student, as well as the entire school, the teacher is given the liberty of making and enforcing classroom regulations in any manner which they feel is in accordance with Christian principles and discipline set forth in Scripture. It is the desire of the administration to be of service to both the parents and 20 the students. RBCS expects full cooperation from both the student and parent in the education and discipline of the student. If at any time the school feels that the cooperation is lacking, the student may be requested to withdraw. 18

A parent needing to talk with their child or teacher should stop by the office first, where a staff member will get the child or teacher out of class (if convenient).

5.

6.
Parents will receive a bill each month. However, should a billing be delayed or lost it is still the responsibility of the parent to see that the installment is paid.

9.
