HELLO

ABOUT/

CONTENT/

ABOUT/ I am a graduate with a B. Arch Degree from the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana located in Medellin, Colombia. My goal is to create architecture that parts from a strong design concept and satisfies people´s needs in terms of the ever-evolving way in which we travel and live. I am extremely passionate about my work and have a special interest for interiors and how people feel when inside a space. I get my inspiration from nature, repetition, experience and observing the way people live.

I

I possess strong leadership and problem solving skills as well as the ability to work under pressure and find quick solutions. My experience as an architectural intern in various firms has provided me with an excellent background regarding the practical aspects of architecture including time management, the ability to work under pressure, and concept and project development. Most importantly, I´ve learned the significance of working as a team, being responsible and solving problems in order to accomplish goals. I see myself in ten years designing passive architecture and using new technologies to help evolve and ease the way in which we travel, live, and adapt to the fast paced world we inhabit. By doing this, I hope to bring innovative solutions to everyday problems and therefore, bring ease and comfort into people´s daily life.

SINTESIS/ SYNTHESIS

APIARY AND CULTURAL CENTER/ The building is part of a master plan that means to link and connect educational-productive buildings located on a rural area with a new road that is being constructed as part of the Pan-American Highway. This master plan was inspired by the project: 18 Scenic Routes from Norway. The Apiary and Cultural Center is located in a Bolombolo, Antioquia. The building is designed to help preserve the bees and educate people on sustainable agriculture. It also serves as a meeting point for students, tourists, and agricultures to learn, share and explore their interests in preserving the environment. The building is divided in three main areas: honey factory, educational classrooms, and a theatre-restaurant. The first area produces honey, candles, honey vinegar and soap. It also provides housing for some of its workers as well as well-being, training and resting rooms. The second area has educational classrooms as well as interior gardens which provide spaces in which what is taught in the classrooms can be practiced in theses patios. The third area is mainly for tourists where they will find a restaurant, exhibition room, meeting spaces and a theatre. Due to the topography conditions, the project is designed to adapt to the different levels of the terrain which result in a three level building. The circulation is a distinguished characteristic in the project: -In the factory: Tourists and people who are not part of its staff, enter one level above the factory floor and circulate it through an elevated bridge that connects to the second ares though a spiral staircase which is a great interior patio and library. This ramp continues and finally connects it with the third one. All of 4

ENTREPRENEURSHIP CENTERHYBRID BUILDING/

The Hybrid Building is located in the urban core of MedellĂn, Colombia. This part of the city is caracterized for its art culture, small businesses made by people who moved from rural areas seeking greater opportunities and for its traffic. These characterisitcs were taken into account when designing the building hoping to help potencialize small businesses and implulse the commercial spirit of the sector. The building seekes, through its form and circulation, to establish a relationship between the main street called La Playa and the comercial and educational uses. This is accomplished by establishing three main volumes. Two of them come out from the ground while the third one is elevated and is the connection between the two. The building located towards the main street is distanced from it and has a set of stairs that lead towards a comercial patio and an outdoor theatre, it is designed this way to set back from the caos and loudness of the sector and provide a place that compliments the commercial nature of it. This building also contains a public library and office space. The building towards the south side of the city is taller because of the uses present here and the characteristics of the residential buildings beside it. A mixture of office space, commerce, education and residential apartments are present throughout it. The hybridization is accomplished with the way the space is distributed and connected through the private and public circulations present in the building. The elevated volume serves as the connection between the two and is the Entrepreneurshi Center along with a cafeteria and study center. 12

SINTESIS/ SYNTHESIS

“The hybrid building is a specimen of opportunity which has the mixed-use gene in its gene code. It turns against the combination of the usual programs and bases its whole raison d’etre on the unexpected mixing of functions. The hybrid is the consequence of a rant against tradition, giving typology the one finger salute. It is an opportunist building, which makes the most out of its multiple skills, a key player which revitalises the urban scene and saves space.” -Steven Holl

GENERATOR HOSTEL INTERIOR ARCHITECTURE/ The location of the project is in South Beach, Miami and its main purpose is to provide a luxury accomodation at a small price. This luxury hostel design was inspired by Generator Hostel brand which originated in Europe. Concept Statement: If there is one thing humans all have in common, its that they’re made up of atoms. Atoms, just like people, come together and form connections. The forms these connections make when coming together unveil patterns used to guide the design of the space. The design focuses on the geometric shapes formed when atoms bond, which reinforces the idea of interaction between people. The architectural and interior elements exposed in the space by joining linear and curve shaped objects in a variety of ways are meant to show that at the end, everything is connected. The way these forms come together and the mixture of simple materials with by pops of color, highlight the Scanned CamScanner SKETCH energetic feel and reinforce the diversity of the space. 20

CITSCAPE/RESIDENTIAL BUILDING

Citscape is a residential building project located in the Medellín, Colombia. It is composed of two main buidings and a bridge that connects both of them. The first floor is a commercial platform and to adapt to the natural inclination of the ground, a stair ramp that turns into a night movie theatre is placed. The location makes the inhabitants of the neighborhood be diverse: from families of 4 members to people from other cities or students. The building seeks to design typologies for each type and fit their particular needs. Theres are private, semi-private, and public spaces throughout the building to satisfy the peopl´s needs. Sustainable design is accomplished though the implementation of solar panels, recycling water systems, and productive roofs where crops can be planted and grown for consumption. The initial project ideas begin from the exploration of form when placing the building. The first question asked is what could housing offer to its context without leaving aside the community needs of those who reside in the building. This means to understand the inhabit not only as the act of dwelling in a limited place of basic functions, but as the fact of going out to meet and how architecture takes place and fosters these relationships. 28

SecciĂłn Longitudinal

Imagen Interior

Imagen Interior

This music center is located in MedellĂn, Colombia. The exploration of the courtyard and its circulation were the main inspiration for the design. The courtyard is one of the main characteristics of the classic antique colombian house and that is taken as the main inspiration for the project. Walls placed diagonally are meant to open or enclose a space depending on its use and hierarchy in the building. Its is composed of a reception center at its entrance followed by a patio that leads to a cafe and main classrooms as well as the stairs that lead to the second floor: an art gallery and classroom space.

Imagen Interior

The building is meant to explore basic formal structures of modern and contemporary architecture from which countless subgroups emerge: The courtyard, the pavilion and the tower. The exercise is sought not only to come into contact with an intensely urban typology, but also to involve vertical circulation systems in a building. It is in the existence and design of the circulation systems and how they are intergrated with the street and urban meeting points that determines the usefulness of the building in the sector.

CHILDREN LEARNING CENTER/

“Niquitao, for example, is one of those cities within another. Signed by the terror of others, but also by their own hostility, in the midst of a north enclosed by the establishment and mutual segregation, and a south enclosed by fear. “ Osorio, Jairo. Niquitao, a geography of crosses. Medellín: Ed. ITM, 2008, 52 The Children Learning Center is located in Niquitao neighborhood in the center of Medellín, Colombia. From the analysis developed in the first stage of the workshop, the lack of identity of the Niquitao sector becomes one of the main causes of its segregation from the center of Medellín. Based on this and identifying the opportunities that the same place provides, a Children Learning Center was designed. Two uses are integrated within the building: a children learning center as a tool to educate the community and housing for families and for woman and men who have to work in this sector and take care of their families at the same time.
