During my studies I acquired the basic skills of graphic design and art direction and I had the opportunity to join to worldwirde competitions such as Young Blood (D&Ad) and Young Ones (One Show). 2014-2015 / NABA Illustration Course Thanks to this course my drawing skills developed into illustration and I discovered many different kind of tools to develop and foster my personal way to illustrate. June 2015 / Ideal Hackaton I participated in the Ideal Hackaton which took place in Milan and LA. The challenge was about redesigning its website within 24 hours. My project was placed second.
Hi, my name is Valentina Tassalini and I was born on April 19th, 1994 in Milan, Italy. All my life I loved drawing; this made to practise illustration and discover graphic design, about what I became more and more passionated over time. I'm a creative and open-minded person with a strong motivation to learn as much as possible and to put energy into what I do.

The project
The project is a personal infographic about myself. The format is a folding poster about 59,20 cm of width and 63 cm of lenght. It's composed of twelve a5 sheets. The infographic is divided into three main sections: general information, education and trips.
→
The cover
The cover is found on the front and back side of the folding poster and is showing a portrait of myself. As the name „Va-len-ti-na“ (dismembered as in a vocabulary) already reveals this work is a specific and simple description of myself. „My life in numbers“ is turning data of my everyday life into nice infographics.

I chose to combine Neuzeit S and Univers typefaces because of their excellent readability and functionality. Morover they represent my passion for the german and swiss type which are simple, functional and attractive at the same time.
The icons consist of an illustration and a frame. I chose this kind of style to put together my passion for graphic design (which is represented by geometrical lines and shapes) and illustration.

The goal
This project is about the restyling of the italian weekly magazine "Internazionale". The italian word "internazionale" means "international" and refers to the mag's focus on publishing foreign press' articles translanted into italian. It reports topics about politics, economics and culture.
The target consists mainly of people who are also buying newspapers, primary represented by people over 35 years. The goal of the project is to restyle the aesthetic of the magazine in order to target more young people who feel addressed more by a contemporary and fashionable style.

Typography
For the magazine’s head, the titles, and the captions, I chose two typefaces which combine classical elements with a modern style, to combine the reliability of “Internationale” with a touch of contemporary aesthetic. For the magazine head I used the Bitstream Vera Serif, a modern typeface inspired by the classical Verdana and Tahoma. For the titles and the captions instead, I used the Sang Bleu Sans, a Swiss typeface which gives a modern and elegant look. To achieve a better readability while giving the magazine a aesthetic touch, I chose Arno Pro for the texts. In addition every article's title and captions are characterized with their own font to give personality to every topic.

Magazine Head
To make the magazine more recognizable and unique the first letter of "internazionale" becomes the logo itself. The magazine is pretty known and there is no need to extend the logo with the entire written name.

Intern graphic layout
In order to make the magazine more appealing the cover is presented with a full page picture which catches the eye. Locating the captions on the extreme sides, gives the cover further space.
In order to give its own identity to every article I used different typefaces and a simple graphic element , a repeating line, which changes its length, thickness, amount and colour adapting to the respective topic.

The product
9° 8' 54.753" E
This project resulted from a partecipation at the Young Ones competition. Its aim was to find a solution for opiod overdose crisis in the U.S.
We designed Watchit, the first watch that controls your painkillers consumption and avoids overdosing. Watchit releases the right amount of painkillers at the right time through a transdermal patch. Thanks to the Pure Plus technology the pulse rate is always under control and in case of overdosing an intradermal micro-needle realeases a small Naloxone doses, alerting the closest aid station at the same time.

The case study
To communicate the product we created a video in which the problem and its solution have been explained. This was the main part of the project and it needs to make the people aware about the product. The tone of voice is direct and matter-of-fact because the product is the solution by itself.

The project
During my first year of work my main focus was designing the exhibition "Undestanding Climate Change", an immersive and interactive exhibition with multimedial contents of National Geographic. After the exhibition was opened in Milan in the spring of 2019 it will move this year to Pavia and Naples.
Room 1
Room 2
The exhibition makes the cause-effect relationships of the climate change crisis understandable. It offers to the people some tools and tips to contribute to more sustainable world.

The exhibition
The exhibition is divided in two main parts. The first part of the exhibition is a visual and immersive experience and gives you the feeling about the disaster of climate change.

The visual experience
The storytelling begins with the projections of the untouched beauty and greatness of the nature. In the second room the damage of the human beings has shown. In the background users can listen the music which is distorted and dissonant when the consequence of climate change has been showed. My work focused on the art direction and the storytelling of the projections; moreover I designed the four witnesses (a turtle, a human, an elephant and a polar bear) which are the inhabitants of the four different themes areas (water, plastic, earth and ice). They are carved on plexiglass surface. As soon somebody steps close to witnesses, they are activated and light up, telling the visitor their story about climate change.

The awareness
The third room has a more educational approach: the visitor gets informations about cause and effects of climate change and learns through an interactive way about his own impact on the environment. The topics are divided in four themes (water, earth, ice and plastic) around the wall of the room.
Interactive room
Distributed in the room, you find five installations build up as games, which educate the users about their daily habits and their impact on our planet. I designed all the information printed on the wall and supported the design of the central interactive wall.

The infographic wall
From September 21st the Kosmos museum in Pavia hosts a reduced version of the exhibition "Understanding Climate Change“. Its focus is hereby on the plastic theme and to educate the visitors about plastic pollution in the oceans. In a round immersive room the visitor experiences the projection on the left side while having a thirteen meters long infographic on the right handed wall. Before entering the room the visitors are meeting and listening to the story of the only witness of the crisis: a whale which is represented by its physical skeleton hanging up on the ceiling.
→
For this exhibition I designed again the infographic which covers one entire side of the room. The infographic makes the topic of consumption, pollution and recycling of plastic easy to understand and gives the visitor a feeling about the extent of human impact on the ocean's pollution.
Details
Some informations could be complicated or often boring to who doesn't know much about the topic, so turning them into attractive and simple illustrations, big numbers and a few texts makes people interested about it.

Furthermore I designed the three boards which are located at the end of the exhibition's path. They show the researches of the University of Pavia about "Marine noise", "Marine biopollution" and "CO , a threat for ² the Mediterranean sea". In order to present these scientific topics in a more appealing way I designed some illustrations which are placed on the respective boards.

Milano Film Festival poster
The poster was designed for "Blank Poster", a platform for making posters based on a weekly randomly generated word which was "team" for this project. I chose an ironical approach and I represented one of the most typical game played in the parks and clubs around Milan and Italy: eldery people who play bocce. Even if there are single players, the word "team" refers to the close relationship between the group of people who have always lived in the same neighborhood and kept alive the tradition of the game.

The poster represents the work of the director who shows his personal point of view on the world through the camera lens bringing invisible details to the light. Indeed, on the left side, where the camera lens is located, the poster is clear and defined while the right side is blurry.

Beyond the Wall poster
The poster was designed for an university exam of the exhibition design course. My project was about the cultural and social environment before and after the fall of the Wall. The style of the poster is inspired by the 90s rave flyers because after the fall of the Berlin Wall the rave and the club scene of the city was the cradle of new art movements inspiring generations and making Berlin the unique place as we know it today. The fall of the Wall is represented by the rectangles that leave the space to go beyond it.

Vision poster
The shade, which changes its colours for every poster, represents the summer sunrise. Indeed, the club is known for the beautiful sunrises that people can enjoy from there. The two women represents the feeling of the dancing and listening to the music. The mood is bright and vibrant according to the house music which is played by famous djs in Villa delle Rose.
