5 Steps to Becoming S.M.A.R.T. By Valentino “ Blog So Hard Crawford
I’ m going to show you how to turn your dreams into visualizations in 5 easy steps. This post continues from the Are You Dreaming Or Visualizing post, so go check out that post before you read this one.Â
To help you visualize your goals you will need to have a plan… a S.M.A.R.T. plan. Your goals should be written down and they should be…
Specific M easurable Attainable Realistic T imely
Specific To have a greater chance of success, you must be specific with your goals. For example, setting a goal of becoming a Director in your primary company is too general. Break your goal down in the following manner:
Who- Who is involved?
What- What is it that you want to accomplish?
When- Establish a deadline.
Where- Location of where you want to be when you reach your goal.
Why- Determine specific reasons for reaching this goal (i.e. purpose and/or benefits).
How- What are the requirements to accomplishing this goal (i.e. number of members needed in your down line, volume of products sold, etc)?
So instead of saying, “ I wish to become a Director,” It would be better to say, “ I will become a Director by the time of our next company convention. When I reach that rank, I will be making enough money to quit my job. In order to do this, I must build my organization to 200 members in my down line within the next 12 months.”
M easurable Your plan should be measurable. It should contain multiple benchmarks through the course of the plan to help you track your progress. Continuing from the example above, we have 12 months to acquire 200 members.
A good idea is to start at the end and work backwards. If you need 200 members in your down line at the 12-month mark, then you should set the following benchmarks:Â
100 members at the 6-month mark 50 members at the 3-month mark 25 members at the 45-day mark 16 members at the 1-month mark 8 members at the 2-week mark 4 members at the 1-week mark
You can break it down even further to what daily benchmarks you would like to hit, based on the tasks necessary to sign up a person into your organization. This plays a huge role in our next step.
Attainable In order to determine if your goal is attainable you will need to know what tasks you must accomplish, how much you have to do, and how fast it needs to be done.
You will also need to determine if you have the resources you need or will you have to seek help. Your willingness and your ability to do what it takes will determine how attainable the goal is.
Realistic Be realistic! If your weekly goals require you take 12 hours out of the day each day to accomplish them, then you need to make sure that you have allotted that time or you may not meet your mark by the end of the week.
You may have to re-evaluate your goals if you do not realistically see yourself doing the work necessary.
Also, if your goals are dependent on the help of others, how sure are you that your help will deliver in a timely manner? Give yourself some ‘ wiggle room’ for unforeseen circumstances or you will be disappointed when you do not meet your mark.
Timely A lot of this was covered in the Measurable section, so I will take it a step further and say that a schedule needs to be set for you to work on your tasks.
Consistency is king! Working towards your goals in a sporadic fashion will hinder you from being fully engaged with your plans.
If you have a schedule, you more than likely will not let distractions get in your way. Instead of seeing your work as tasks, you will look at it as simply a routine thing (like brushing your teeth in the morning or eating dinner).Â
I n Closing So there you have it folks! You now know how to become S.M.A.R.T. in 5 easy steps. Don’ t over-complicate things if you don’ t have all the information you need. Your plans will evolve as you get closer to your goals. You may reevaluate and decide that you can accomplish your goals in a shorter time frame.
Or you may have to stretch things out because of unforeseen circumstances. Maybe you are just simply getting ‘ burnt out’ from moving at your present pace. It’ s o.k. You will accomplish a lot more this way than simply dreaming.
I’ ve shown you a way to visualize your goals. Now it’ s up to YOU to make them realities. If you have a tactic that you would like to share that helps you with your goal-setting, please leave a comment. And if you found this post enlightening, feel free to share it with your friends on Facebook and Twitter. Let’ s keep it movin’ folks!
