ACCESSORY DESIGNER
I have appreciated design even before I knew what design was. My Mexican childhood taught me about color and beauty. I learned that less is more through the architecture my mother created. My curiosity for how things work was cultivated by my father, and letting mistakes happen pushed me to be better. These projects are the product of my roots.

Carla Fernandez
Research and Customer Profile
The collection would be marketed bor a high-end customer that cares about the product’s life journey. The craft and artisanal details are an important aspect that makes the products luxury goods.
“Modern Frida” Fashion that incorporates culture in a modern way
Mexico City, Mexico PANTERA is the mexican brand for excellent luxury leather goods. Deep in artesanal traditions and celebrating the individuality of each creation, PANTERA continues with its position and expansion in the fashion market.
Core Collection Line-Up
The collection is inspired by the natural beauty and colors of Mexico’s landscapes, such as the pyramids of Teotihuacan. The braiding is a modern take on the traditional braids used by Mexican Women. The Ampersand (&) symbolizes the life-long comeback, “and what else can we accomplish?” that nods to the strides women have made in the fight to equality.

PROCESS Behind the scenes of designing & making the accessories.
I begin every piece by sketching designs. Once I determine an idea is strong and possible to create, I use paper or leather to create a mockup. Through this process, I figure out what seams I will be using, how much seam allowance is necessary, sizing of the product, cohesive design elements, how the bag will be constructed, the sewing order and any final touches I might have looked over in the sketching phase. This is where I begin to pattern using oak tag. I create a master and sectional pattern by hand, ensuring each piece has the correct allowances and are symmetrical if needed. Once I finish, I begin cutting my leather and putting together each bag. Every bag is different, and therefore the process of assembly differs greatly. Thinking about the construction process and the correct sequence of steps is one of my favorite parts that challenges and makes me find innovative solutions to simple problems.
