TRANSCENDENT FLOW

PROJECT VEHICLE: AERIAL ACROBATICS & PERFORMANCE CENTER

- For training Aerialists and Acrobats looking for personal growth through artistic outlets.

- To Perform with creative expression through body movement and choreography

Transcendent Flow is an aerial acrobatics center for the circus community. I am honored to be a part of this unique circus world and highlight the diverse and equitable spaces that it can offer. This vibrant community celebrates uniqueness in all forms. It embraces individuals, no matter their gender, size, or ability, and helps people grow to find personal acceptance. The circus has a reputation for being outsiders in our society, and are deeply mis-understood. Many people seek this community to express themselves through artistic movement and share their passion for creativity. Through performing, you can tell your story while finding empowerment and safety within your circus partners.

The circus community transcends boundaries and champions inclusivity, diversity, and acceptance that we can all aspire to recreate. Aerialists gain a lot of trust with their partners when developing an act. Intense physical training, overcoming fear, and communication are all elements to becoming a performer. Mental health is extremely important in the community. Throughout my personal journey with aerial acrobatics it has been a key factor in mental strength, dedication, and empowerment.

POV:

I began training in Aerial Acrobatics when I was 10 years old. The circus community embraced me and influenced my upbringing dramatically. I was welcomed into their family and fell in love with the art.

Aerial Acrobatics force you to stay in the present, relax into yourself and trust your body. It allows you to flow in the movement and center your mind. I want to design an environment for people to feel peace and power in themselves and surpass their limits by achieving what they thought was impossible.

-EMMA- The Instructor

“It was a place to explore and heal my body and find the conduit for my creative energy. I have discovered many interesting weaknesses and found incredible ways of making them stronger by learning from those around me.”

-SAFFI- The Student

“Circus arts can be a place to express anything an artist is feeling or was feeling while creating and performing their work. Many circus artists like to translate their emotions into physical movements in their pieces. Aerial acrobatics and it’s community have also helped me overcome fears and have taught me to be able to maintain calmness in situations where I feel afraid”

-QUALIFIER SEQUENCE-

1 -STACKING QUALIFIER-

The hard discipline and progress you have made on your journey searching for transcendence.

The arrangment of elements in a balanced orientation that can lead to a destination.

2 -FLIPPING QUALIFIER-

The moment everything switched where you meet transcendence.

Represented through an invisible axis where the flipping occurs. What is mirrored above acts like another dimension that reaches into the levels of transcendence. The modular sections are constrained within the vertical axes and the horizontal separation of levels is represented through shape and contrasting material.

3 -RHYTHM QUALIFIER-

The flow state you are in when performing and relates to the final freedom of transcendence.

Repetition allows for a subtle transition of spatial relationships with each segment to make a design full of movement rather than stagnancy. Rhythm makes your eye travel gradually up and down following the contorted segments in a seamless line from one end of the structure to the other.

This projects goal, was to complete the Living Building Challenge. It is the world’s most rigorous standard for green buildings. Going above and beyond LEED certification, Living Buildings strive for net-zero or net-positive energy, are free of toxic chemicals and lower their energy footprint many times below the generic commercial structure.

MY ROLE

All 3D modeling and rendering, floorplan layout, waiting room design, large group therapy room design, and employee hallway design.

PROJECT PROBLEM

A premiere healthcare system in Cleveland will be renovating a first-floor suite within a commercial office complex in Fairview Park. This clinic will specialize in treating mood disorders (depression, anxiety, PTSD, and disordered eating) as well as other disorders like autism and substance abuse. The patients will range in age from two (2) to eighteen (18)
