COMMERCIAL ID421 INTERIOR DESIGN THESIS I In this senior-level studio course, students develop a viable and visual solution for the project typically researched in ID420. Solutions incorporate environmentally sound, cost effective, and responsible design methods to influence an audience using creative delivery methods.
ID325 COMMERCIAL ENVIRONMENTS In this advanced course, the design of an upscale, global, corporate interior reflects the comprehensive synthesis of problem identification, research, programming, preliminary design, design development, and construction documents. Problem solving centers on the creative and technical aspects involved in the universal design of commercial environments including space planning with code compliance, way-finding techniques, and specifying corporate furnishings, finishes and materials.
ID373 SPECIALTY DESIGN This senior level studio course covers the physical and psychological factors that impact hospitality environments. Students are expected to graphically demonstrate original and viable solutions. Research on human factors, codes, and lighting are combined with product mix and multi-sensory aspects of design to influence perceived value to the customer.
ID340 COMPUTER-AIDED DESIGN I I Students successfully completing this course wil be able to use Computer-Aided Design software to assist them in their three-dimensional project development. Students wil gain a comprehensive understanding of the integration of computer technology into the design process and an introduction to BIM (Building Information Modeling) technology.

or every public space, the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) requires the all commercial spaces have access for persons with a disability. This design of MODE 8 entails creating an accessible and friendly environment from the time they enter the store, down to the exchange they have with employees. The first floor houses the more elegant luxury designer brands and has curved walls that may give one a sense of distorted balance. On the second floor, low, easy-accessible merchandise displays are provided, random seating are placed throughout accordingly, and dressing room designs are larger. Overall, we successfully provide an environment of fashion equality. Solution Lower tables/counters for easy access Wider aisles and less clutter for ADA compliant friendly environment Random seating provided throughout the store for the occasional waiting person Larger dressing rooms to accommodate and offer extra space Larger text used on signs throughout to accommodate visually impaired Numerous ADA compliant stalls provided in all restrooms and various flooring finishes for easy wayfinding

rban Social is a full service social media design firm based in Schaumburg, IL which designs and implements nationwide media packages for firms geared toward teens and young adults. Established in 1995, Urban Social provides a range of services in music, media, fashion, advertising, and the film industry. Urban Social connects clients to consumers in the most exciting ways. The most important aspect of this design is to encourage alliance and teamwork. We create a visually stimulating work place with personal attention to detail within each area. Both public and private areas are designed while keeping a steady flow from each, integrating function without visual severance. The overall ambience has a modern, urban feel to it, helping employees to relax and revitalize, then allowing them to work more efficiently. The open workspace is created with systems furniture for easy reconfiguration. The central reception with an adjacent Break/Lounge area is hospitable and inviting, complete with a comfortable seating area and coffee bar. The large conference area has a high end look, making a visually stimulating environment for initial and final client meetings and presentations. The sharing of natural light and use of clerestory windows on private office walls, as well as glass facades on coadjuvant spaces, serve as a sustainable design element. Overall, the design will provide a positive space for a visually enticing and positive working environment.

For this project we were to
design a Night Club in an existing building located in a Chicago neighborhood that has become very trendy and populated with new bars and restaurants. In order to develop a design with a very strong concept, we were to look towards art for inspiration. As designers, we can find inspiration in any place and from anything. I was able to find inspiration in the work of Andy Warhol. By analyzing the style, philosophy, use of geometry and principles of design, I was able to execute a successful design for the client.

ince the arrival of the first boutique hotels, which addressed a trendy, well-to- do clientage, the design has become more operative and practicable. Compelled by the desire to offer guests a unique experience, hoteliers are giving themselves a dynamic charm in order to better stand out from the others. For centuries, Paris has been a blooming European cultural center and a meeting point for artists from all over the world. Today the city's many cultures can be admired in hundreds of galleries, museums, and churches that embellish in essence every part of the city. The heart of Paris is also cast in the music of local artists and in the architectural radiance that gives the city its elaborate appeal.

We had been contracted, under a separate contract from the architect, to design a restaurant located in the lobby of a boutique hotel. The design was to be original, conceptual and have a conceptual story to tell about the location and the culture. Secret de Paris is a luxurious five star boutique hotel that encompasses a Hollywood Glam, vintage inspired look, while embracing the Parisian culture in a themed, stylish, and inspirational manner. The focus the lounge was to offer a comfortable, intimate, and welcoming setting. The main entrance is located adjacent to the hotel living room, with a second entrance to accommodate the general public.

The interior of this boutique was designed as a group project with Alex Tkaczyk. The primary goal was to display high end products through a series of eye catching displays. Lots of white display shelving and glass casing help direct the focus on the merchandise for the potential buyer. A chaise is conveniently located in the center of the store for customers to try on shoes. Additional seating is provided towards the back of the store to provide the customer with a sense of comfort and relaxation.

e were hired to design a loft Apartment. The client was a 38 year old musician. Mr. Pete Johansen plays guitar in a jazz band. He needed a space to rehearse with his band and also liked to collect guitars. His space requirements were a bedroom area with closet, small kitchen with eating area, an acoustically conditioned rehearsal room, entertaining area, and storage room for his instrument collection. The building was a brick and timber structure formerly used as a manufacturing facility. The Company went out of business in the early 1970s and the building was utilized for diverse purposes until two years ago when it went through a renovation and was converted to loft apartments with commercial space in the first level. The building is located West to the Chicago฀s South Loop with apartments from the 2nd to the 8th floors and there are commercial spaces and a common area for the condominium in the ground floor. The typical floor plan is laid out to provide design flexibility. Each floor had eight dwelling modules, provided a full ADA bathroom, plumbing hookup for a kitchen, a closet and a mechanical room. The floor plans were open with no partitions other than the bathrooms, the closet and the mechanical room. All areas are appropriately combined per designer฀s intentions.
