TAMMO PRINZ ARCHITECTS Schloß Derneburg December 2011 - Present

Renovation of the former Georg Baselitz’s Castle, outside of Hannover. The Schloß was acquired by Georg Baselitz in 1974 who made it his home and studio for the next 32 years until its sale in 2006. The project consisted in the renovation of the castle’s private areas and the transformation of the main parts into private museum for Mr. Andrew Hall’s contemporary art collection. The project saw me involved throughout the whole design process, from the development of the initial ideas to the definition of details and preparation of all necessary technical drawings for the building permit.

TAMMO PRINZ ARCHITECTS C/O Gallery at Amerika Haus March 2013

Closed competition on invitation focused on the transformation of the inner spaces of the Amerika Haus designed by Bruno Grimmek in 1956/57 on Hardenbergstrasse in Berlin. The new exhibition centre for photography of the C/O Gallery will occupy those spaces starting from 2014 and asked Tammo Prinz Architects to make a proposal for the conversion of the existing spaces into exhibition spaces.

DIA / DESSAU INSTITUTE OF ARCHITECTURE Life|Styling “contextualizing the transformation of a high-rise building” Master Thesis Project Advisors: Arch. Gunnar Hartmann Prof. Lars Lerup 1st semester: research phase “Understanding Frankfurt am Main” One semester of group research, understanding the trends in housing and office market in the city of Frankfurt am Main, through its history, the developments and the wrong steps that have been made, analizing the rise and decline of office space’s develoments and the rise of high-end housing market. Understanding the “developer’s culture”, working closely to Tom Bock, successful Frankfurt’s developer. Understanding the feasibility for transformation of office buildings into housing space. In particular, focusing on the transformation of high-rise office buildings into high-rise high-end housing space. 2nd semester: design phase “Contextualizing the transformation of a high-rise building” A personal design approach for one of three existing sites, in the city of Frankfurt am Main. Using the previous semester’s work as a starting point for a individual design proposal of transformation of an existing vacant high-rise office building into a highrise high-end housing development. The product is a design process in which the field of “marketing a development”, as a strategy to translate the design product into the real world of the “developer”, is explored and represents an important role.

DIA / DESSAU INSTITUTE OF ARCHITECTURE Toystore / Ecological pressures as design tools

Professors: Sandra Manninger & Matias Del Campo SPAN Architects [Vienna-Austria]

The main lineage of exploration in this project investigates how intensive forces, including solar radiation, weather systems, can be used as means of formation for architectural bodies. Using parametric tools in combination with simulation software result in opportunities to observe the behavior of architectural bodies under ecological pressure. The architectural body, the launching pad for the investigations, is comprised by a toystore which is situated as an infill between two buildings in the urban texture of Berlin.

POLITECNICO DI MILANO Milan South West / 3 Living Styles Professor: Francesco Infussi

with Valentina Bisi, Michela Chiesa, Matteo Maradini

This project is focused on a urban scale intervention on the south-west periphery of Milan. The area is nowadays characterized by monofunctional activities. Commercial, industrial and residential areas are separated and distinguished the one from the others. Aim of this project is to suggest a possible new way of approaching a new delopment in this area. A peaceful coexistence between functional variety, public spaces, a fluid network of connections and the surrounding landscape.

POLITECNICO DI MILANO Milan South West / Bridging the Gap Professor: Giulio Barazzetta

Masterplan with Valentino Galli

The project initially define a masterplan for an empty plot located in the south-west periphery of Milan. The aim is to connect the empy area with a green space, located across a canal, that hosts an important railway connection to the city center. The result is a strong element of connection that bridges three horizontal systems (canal, green space, railway) and allows new buildings to rise in this empty plot. Second step of this studio was the design of the building which is facing the street along the canal. The result is a 8 floor residential building, with commercial space on the ground and first floor.
