LES NIVAUX Pascale & Thierry Nivaux, artist-duo from France, have traded their camera for a scanner - and they totally adapted it. It’s the perfect tool for their artistic research. Each subject is placed on or under of the flatbed scanner. It adds a unique touching impression to the photographic image as well as specific light. Their large scale photographs are overflowing with details and accuracy despite of an extremely shallow field of depth and a lack of perspective. And the longer the scanning process goes on, the larger the photograph will get until it becomes a monumental work.

The scanned picture abandons depths and distances and becomes a palpable image. The shot’s light is intriguing and the volumes, colours and details are sublime to the scan. They don’t use any artifices. A piercing truth comes from the images. Les Nivaux’s photographs interrogate the nature and the position of the reality in a world of sham and virtuality. The scanner becomes a philosophy of art and it will never leave them. Just like the 19th century’s photography expeditions, they are travelling around the world with this technologic tool on board of their truck transformed into a mobile studio. Let art be art.

VALLETTE GALLERY
Vallette Gallery represents Malaysian and international artists in paintings, sculptures, photographies and art installations, and is looking to build a trusting and strong relationship between artists and art lovers. In Kuala Lumpur, Vallette Gallery is promoting Malaysian artists in Malaysia as a first step of recognition in their own country but also making a point of showcasing the artwork in Europe, in order to expose the most established Malaysian artists in the West. Vallette Gallery has the objective of creating a real link between continents. It encourages creative excellence by providing an environment for communications, expertise, sharing and mentoring within the community of artists. With a minimum of five exhibitions a year, the gallery works to promote the development of the artists represented and showcase their work to the general public, the media and private collectors.

To Copy/Paste reality? It is the mad bet that French artists Les Nivaux are trying to realize. To shift the Abbey Road zebra crossing in countries all over the world. Imagine yourself the Abbey road, which is originally situated in London, transposed at the Zocalo place in Mexico? Looking for a new photographic eye they use a Scanner technology to delocalize fragments of reality. A curious method of places extraction which turns upside down our world vision. How? (*Copy) Scanner is an excellent photographic tool. To Scan instead of photograph is what Les Nivaux wanted to bring to the artistic world. The Scan adds a proximity and a unique tactile dimension to the photographic picture. The scanned picture abolishes the distances and becomes in this sense a palpable image. The shot’s light is intriguing, and the volumes, colors and details are sublimed by the Scan.
