NO MATTER THE LANGUAGE, VALPO TRANSLATES TO VALUE

In a globalized world, technology has often served to transport large amounts of information across great distances. But where technology will never be able to compete with people is in making real, personal, and lasting connections. Valpo’s unique world languages and cultures programs recognize the strength in those connections and strive to take our students beyond basic vocabulary memorization. We personally invest in their vocation by providing them with cultural immersion and community engagement opportunities, allowing them to use these connections to make a lasting impact, no matter where in the world their education takes them. Because Valpo’s German program received the Center of Excellence designation by the American Association of Teachers of German, there is no better place to help open up new worlds of opportunity for you.

‘‘

LANGUAGE CONNECTS YOU TO NEW WORLDS OF OPPORTUNITY

The German program at Valpo is one of the main reasons that I chose to go to Valpo. Alongside my international relations major, Valpo and its German program have truly helped me grow and expand my worldview through their culturally immersive approach to education. I had a wonderful study abroad experience in Tübingen, Germany during my junior year, and I am thankful for all the opportunities that Valpo has given me!

‘‘

Embarking on a journey within Valpo’s German program will open up new worlds of opportunity for you, both personally and professionally. As becoming proficient in different languages improves creativity, flexibility, and divergent thinking, language skills are increasingly in demand across various industries with studies showing bilingual employees earn more on average in addition to experiencing greater promotion rates. Why? Language serves as a gateway to cultural understanding, enabling you to connect with diverse perspectives and forge meaningful relationships. So, beyond broadening your horizons through immersion in literature and arts, you will learn about professional culture, German media, and contemporary society. Studying German will enhance your communication skills, help you foster a global mindset, and offer you a competitive edge in the job market.
