Transition to Teaching
CHANGE YOUR PATH AND FIND YOUR CALLING IN THE CLASSROOM
Change careers and become an adept educator in as little as one year with Valparaiso University’s transition to teaching (T2T) program. Our CAEP-accredited transition to teaching licensure program is for those who have a passion for education, already have a bachelor’s degree in a non-educational field, and are interested in becoming a classroom teacher.
With three licensure tracks available — early childhood education (preschool – grade 3), elementary education (kindergarten – grade 6), or secondary education (grades 5–12 with content specialization) — and flexible course offerings, including in-person, online, and hybrid, you can obtain your alternative teacher certification while continuing to work full-time and simultaneously moving forward in a new, rewarding career path.
Our transition to teaching students begin teaching in the classroom their very first semester and complete the program with 15 weeks of student teaching. Some students may even be eligible to receive an emergency teaching license in Indiana and go to work in the classroom while simultaneously completing the transition to teaching program. With nearly 100% of T2T students finding jobs upon completing their teacher certification and jobs in education expected to grow by 10% through 2030, there’s no better time to pursue your calling in the classroom.
VALUE OF A VALPO GRADUATE DEGREE
Transition to teaching tuition for the 2024-2025 academic year is affordable at $530 per credit — lower than our normal tuition rate. Statefunded programs for alternative teaching certification in Indiana to reduce costs further may be available. Contact the graduate admission office to learn more.

I chose Valpo because of the flexibility that the T2T program gave me. As a mom of a little one and a full-time teacher, I needed the perfect blend of in-person accountability and online learning. Valpo is EXACTLY that. The class sizes are perfect for intimate settings and building community.
