SOCIAL MEDIA TAKEOVER GUIDELINES

Thank you for your interest in participating in a social media takeover to cover your event! This is a great way to showcase our organizations, increase student following, inspire interest, and encourage attendance at Valpo events. Below are the takeover guidelines. Your account login information will be provided once you have notified us that you have read, understand, and agree to these guidelines. Please note that your story content may be used on other Valpo social media channels. Have fun!

PROHIBITED

• Profane, inappropriate, or offensive content

• Content showing alcohol (including logos)

• Watching other users’ stories from the Valpo account

• Using the Valpo account to communicate with your friends

• Sharing your Valpo password with others

POSTING GUIDELINES

• An Instagram, Facebook, and Snapchat story is just that: a story! Give it an opening, an engaging middle, and a final closing.

o Begin with introductory posts stating who you are (name, class year, and major) and where your program/event is.

o Explain what the program is and what viewers have to look forward to experiencing with you and your group throughout the day.

o Cover the event in various ways. Share photos, videos, and use story stickers to engage with your audience.

o Clearly close out your story with an ending story.

• Showcase your program/experience and have fun with it. Show your unique personality and make it fun and interesting! Be social like you would on your personal account, and make sure you are showing your day, not just talking at the camera.

o Why did you want to participate in this program/event?

o How is this trip helpful for your major, interests, career, etc.?

• It’s okay to interact with other students and faculty at your event. Make it a group story!

• Engage with followers on the social media account. You can invite questions and open messages to read and answer questions from viewers.

• Don’t post too many images or videos that show the same things, especially of you talking to the camera for several stories in a row. Viewers will start to lose interest.
