The interior profile of the built tower is usually beehive-shaped,whichthe exteriorresemblesthemore familiar image of a Medieval tower. About 7,000 nuraghe are still evident in Sardinia, but scholars estimate that 10,000 or more originally existeddatingbackto18001600B.C www.khanacademy.org

The Nuragic civilization, and the nuraghe themselves, remain somewhat enigmatic, but it is clear that this architectural tradition is deeply rooted in the Mediterranean. These Sardinian traditions are traced to the Italian mainland where they still inspirearchitecturetoday.
