CALVIN BEATS ALMA TO BEGIN MIAA SEASON:"Fwd: CKSR (Calvin Basketball Teams Pick Up Conference Victories at Van Noord Arena)" -------- Original Message -------Subject: CKSR (Calvin Basketball Teams Pick Up Conference Victories at Van Noord Arena) From: Jeffrey Febus <jfebus@calvin.edu> To: "calvin-sports@calvin.edu" <calvin-sports@calvin.edu> CC: null CALVIN KNIGHT SPORTS REPORT FOR JAN. 7, 2015 Basketball Teams Pick Up Conference Wins In Double Dip at Van Noord Arena MEN'S BASKETBALL Calvin 93, Alma 87 By Mark DeHaan The Calvin men's basketball team opened up its MIAA season on Wednesday evening, hosting the Scots of Alma College. Behind a balanced scoring effort which saw five Knights find double-figures, Calvin held off a late rally from the Scots to earn a 93-87 victory. With the win, the Knights move to 18-1 in conference openers during head coach Kevin Vande Streek's tenure. The teams opened up the game evenly as Calvin held a slim 8-7 margin with 16:52 remaining in the first. A 9-0 run by the Knights over the next two minutes then gave the home team a double-digit advantage at 17-7, forcing an Alma timeout. 3

Calvin increased its lead to 29-14, the largest lead it would see all game, and with 11:05 to go in the first, Alma used another timeout to try and slow down a Knights offense which was shooting 61.9% for the game thus far. The Scots offense then began to pick up, and along with a cooling of the Calvin offense, Alma began to chip away at the Knights lead. By halftime, Calvin's lead was whittled down to six at 49-43. Freshman Connor VanderBrug led the Knights offense with 10 points at halftime as Calvin shot 53.8%. Alma, meanwhile, shot 56.7%. Out of the break, Alma's DJ Beckman scored seven straight points to bring the Scots within two at 52-50. A 14-6 run by the Knights then brought their lead back to double-digits at 66-56. Again the Scots fought back, and with 7:06 to go, Alma had cut the Knights lead to 72-69. Seven straight by Calvin again pushed the Knights lead to ten at 79-69, but Alma worked its way back to trail by a single point at 80-79 with 2:33 remaining, forcing a timeout from Calvin head coach Kevin Vande Streek. After four straight points from the Knights to open up an 84-79 margin, Alma again cut Calvin's lead to one at 86-85 with 0:46 left in regulation. A key tip-in with 0:21 to go from senior Tyler Dykstra put the Knights ahead 88-85, and after a missed shot by the Scots, Calvin iced the game at the free-throw line to earn a 93-87 victory. Calvin shot 54.8% for the ball game while the Scots were 50.8% from the field. The Knights outrebounded Alma 39-26. Individually, five Knights tallied double-digit points led by senior Jordan Brink with 20, also adding seven rebounds. Dykstra and junior Jordan Daley each added 14 while VanderBrug finished with 13 and sophomore Cameron Denney chipped in 12. For Alma, DJ Beckman scored 22 points while Jason Beckman added 18 and Doug Bradfield chipped in 16. "Alma is probably as good an offensive team as we have play this season, and they are a hard matchup for us," said head coach Kevin Vande Streek. "I thought our guys continued to work hard stay with it, and didn't hang their heads when things didn't go quite right. They stayed focused until the end." Calvin now looks forward to Saturday when the Knights travel to Holland and the DeVos 4

Fieldhouse for the first matchup of the season with rival Hope. The Rivalry is set to tip-off at 3:00 p.m. WOMEN'S BASKETBALL Calvin 101, Adrian 73 By Gina de Haan On Wednesday night, the Calvin women's basketball team hosted the Adrian College Bulldogs in its fourth conference game of the season. The Knights entered the game 10-0 overall and 3-0 in the MIAA and remained undefeated, beating Adrian 101-73. In the first half, Calvin took the lead early and didn't give it up for the remainder of the contest. The Knights only turned the ball over twice and shot fifty percent (9-18) from three-point range. Abby Springer drained a three in the final seconds of the half, and Calvin headed into the break with a thirty-five-point lead (60-25). Although the Bulldogs outscored Calvin 48-41 in the second half, they were not able to make up for the large first half deficit. For the game, the Knights shot 52.8% from the floor and 48.1% from three-point range. Anna Timmer led the Knights in scoring with 16 points and also snagged five rebounds. Kayla Engelhard followed, adding 14 points, five rebounds, and three assists. Breanna Verkaik and Jeana Sybesma also chipped in thirteen points apiece, while Hannah Acre scored 11 and dished out four assists. Sybesma's 13-point effort was a new career-high Calvin's bench contributed 51 points to the victory. "I thought we had an excellent first half," said Calvin head women's basketball coach John Ross. "Our ball movement was very good and we got after it on defense. We will need to keep the same type of intensity going on Saturday." On Saturday, the Knights will travel to Alma to take on the Scots (6-8 overall, 1-4 MIAA). Tipoff is at 5:00 p.m. Posted by THEOLOGICAL at 7:23 AM No comments: Email ThisBlogThis!Share to TwitterShare to FacebookShare to Pinterest

Sunday, January 4, 2015 KNIGHTS HOCKEY TEAM DOING WELL (15-3-1) !!Fwd: CKSR (Calvin Hockey Team Blazing Through First Half of Season - Team Members Currently Part of Selects Team in Europe / Swimming and Diving Teams Provide Updates From Florida Training Trip) ---------- Forwarded message ---------From: Jeffrey Febus <jfebus@calvin.edu> Date: Fri, Jan 2, 2015 at 8:51 PM Subject: CKSR (Calvin Hockey Team Blazing Through First Half of Season - Team Members Currently Part of Selects Team in Europe / Swimming and Diving Teams Provide Updates From Florida Training Trip) To: "calvin-sports@calvin.edu" <calvin-sports@calvin.edu> CALVIN KNIGHT SPORTS REPORT FOR JANUARY 2, 2015 CALVIN HOCKEY PROGRAM PRODUCES RED-HOT FIRST HALF OF SEASON If the first half of the 2014-15 season is any indication, big things are in store for Calvin's ACHA hockey team. The Knights are currently off to their best start in several years with a 15-3-1 overall record. Ranked third in the most recent set of ACHA Division III North Region rankings, Calvin is currently second in the Michigan Collegiate Hockey Conference West Division standings with a 6-2-0 conference record. Calvin has not won more than 17 games in a season since the 2006-07 season or advanced to the ACHA Division III National Tournament since the 2007-08 season. With a full head of steam, the Knights have the opportunity to achieve both of those feats this year. "It's been a really fun first half of the season," said Calvin head coach Mike Petrusma who is in his 18th year at the helm of the Knights where he has won 369 games against just 127 defeats and 9 ties. "We are trying to take things one game at a time but this team is one of the more talented offensive groups I have coached. Our defense is also coming along and if we can tighten up a few things on defense, we have a chance to make some noise during the second half of the season. Right now everything is in front of us and that is exciting for our program." Petrusma's current thoughts are not on his Calvin team but on an ACHA Division III Selects team he is serving as head coach for. The Selects are currently traveling through Austria, Italy, 6

Slovenia and Germany while taking on a variety of professional teams and receiving crosscultural experiences. Two of his Calvin players are members of the Selects team - senior forward Brent Harris of St. Catharines, Ontario, and sophomore defenseman Austin Kath of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. "These young men represent everything that we want from our student-athletes at Calvin College," said Petrusma last month. "I'm honored to coach them and I'm very proud of this accomplishment for them." The Selects team is comprised of the top players in ACHA D3 and travels to Europe every two years. The player selection committee includes: Mike Petrusma (Calvin College/Former Selects Assistant Coach/Current Selects Head Coach), Sean Weaver (Central Florida/Former Select's Head Coach), Chris Van Timmeren (Hope College/Former Select's Head Coach) and Division 3 Vice-president Scott Solomon. This is the 3rd installment of the Selects trip to Europe. Calvin has had representation on each of the previous Selects trips as well. Coach Petrusma served as an Assistant and former Calvin College Goalie Trevor Boardway went 3-0 on the 2012-13 team, while Forward Chuck Hofbauer was selected to the 2010-11 team. "We try to make sure that this is not just a hockey experience but also an educational and cultural learning experience for our young men," said Petrusma. "This philosophy is very much in tune with what we seek for our players at Calvin with its outstanding liberal arts education." Looking ahead, Calvin will seek to continue its torrid start to the season when the Knights host Colorado State University on January 16 and Northwood University on January 17 with both games slated to be played at the Eagles Ice Center. Calvin will host MCHC West Division leading Michigan State University on January 23 at Eagles Ice Center. In order to reach the ACHA Division III National Tournament in March, the Knights must move up at least one spot in the final ACHA Division III North Region rankings to receive an automatic bid or claim one of the two regional tournament spots that will be up for grabs when regional tournament play takes place February 20 and 21 in Farmington, Michigan. The 2014 ACHA Division III Nationals are scheduled to take place March 10-14 in Pelham, Alabama. Calvin is averaging 6.6 goals-per-game offensively with the offensive attack led by sophomore forward Jordan Duncan of Oshawa, Ontario, who has 23 goals, 23 assists and a team-leading 46 points on the season. For the month of October, Duncan was named the recipient of the ACHA's Harrow Player of the Month Award after scoring eight goals and adding 16 assists through 7

Calvin's first 10 games. "Anytime we get national recognition it's a great thing for our program," said Petrusma. "Jordan is having an outstanding sophomore season and he compliments Brent Harris very well on one of our main offensive lines." According to Petrusma, Calvin's senior captains Rich Luimes (Caledonia, Ontario) and Harris along with senior assistant captain Brandon Sopjes (Dorr, Mich./Wayland HS) and junior assistant captain John Conz (Fort Wayne, Ind.) have been key to the team's success. "We have a great group of captains which is very critical because of how young our team is," said Petrusma. "I think the camaraderie with our team is very high. It's a great group of young men who enjoy being around each other. I think the biggest things for our team moving forward will be a commitment to team defense and completely buying into what we want to do as a team. If we accomplish those goals during the second half we will get to where we want this team to be." Wednesday, December 17, 2014 Fwd: Whetting Appetites: A Preview of “Deviant Calvinism” by Oliver Crisp " Whetting Appetites: A Preview of "Deviant Calvinism" by Oliver Crisp "...I have now read the Introduction (pp. 1-11) of Deviant Calvinism where Crisp reveals some of his presuppositions and aims. He emphasizes that Reformed theology ought always to abide by the rule " ecclesia reformata, semper reformanda "—"reformed and always reforming." He clearly does not think the Reformed tradition is static. He claims that, contrary to popular misconceptions of Reformed theology, "Reformed theology was never identified with the project of one person and was never supposed to be a straightjacket binding its practitioners." (2) His basic principle is that "the Reformed churches must continue to be reformed in light of the word of God." (2) Specifically, he lays his cards on the table, so to speak, by saying that the doctrines of double predestination and limited atonement have never been definitive of the Reformed tradition. (2) So it is okay for a Reformed theologian to think outside the "TULIP box." They always have and continue to do so in spite of the YRRM and its leaders who all appear to think the TULIP box and divine determinism are necessary hallmarks of Reformed theology and who equate "Reformed" with "Calvinism."..." http://www.patheos.com/blogs/rogereolson/2014/12/whetting-appetites-a-previewof-deviant-calvinism-by-oliver-crisp/ Posted by THEOLOGICAL at 5:08 PM No comments: Email ThisBlogThis!Share to TwitterShare to FacebookShare to Pinterest

Monday, December 15, 2014 (Engelhard is a star!):(Calvin Women's Basketball Rolls to 97-50 Win Over Trine) CALVIN KNIGHT SPORTS REPORT FOR DEC. 13, 2014 Women's Basketball Rolls to 97-50 Win Over Trine WOMEN'S BASKETBALL Calvin 97, Trine 50 By Mark DeHaan The Calvin women's basketball team hosted the Thunder of Trine University on Saturday afternoon. Both teams came into the game with unblemished conference records as Trine was 2-0 in the MIAA and the Knights 1-0. Both teams were also holding on to six-game win streaks. In what turned out to be a surprisingly lopsided ballgame, Calvin built a double-digit lead just seven minutes in and never looked back, defeating the Thunder 97-50. The Knights played strong defense early, forcing Trine into a number of off-balance shots as Calvin jumped out to an 18-8 lead with 13:05 remaining in the first half. The Knights continued to effectively use their full court press and forced the Thunder into 15 first-half turnovers. Trine was held to just 23.1% shooting in the opening period as well, and Calvin held a 46-19 lead at the break. The Knights out-rebounded Trine 31-13 in the first half. Individually, senior Kayla Engelhard (Unionville/Saginaw Valley Lutheran HS) led Calvin with 11 points. In the second half, the Knights continued to press, letting the Thunder only get as close as 79-49 with 5:13 to go after opening up the half on a 12-1 run. Calvin then cruised the rest of the way. As a team, the Knights shot 50% from the field and also hit 10-of-26 from beyond the arc for 38.5%. Trine was held to 25.9% on 15-of-58 shooting while only hitting 1-of-11 from three-point range. Calvin out-rebounded the Thunder 55-30. Individually, Engelhard led Calvin with 13 points. Senior Hannah Acre (DeWitt/DeWitt HS) had a doubledouble with 12 points and 10 rebounds while senior Kelsey Pollock (Greenville/Beldhing HS) chipped in a career-high 11 points. Junior Kally Verkaik (Holland/Holland Christian HS) had eight points and a career-high 10 rebounds. Senior Breanna Verkaik (Holland/Holland Christian HS) had nine points and three blocked shots while freshman Bre Luurtsema (Holland/Holland Christian HS) had eight points and five boards. Freshman Anna Timmer (Caledonia/South Christian HS) also had a strong afternoon with six points and a careerhigh nine rebounds. For Trine, Ashley Elliott had 10 points and five rebounds. "We came out and did some really good things in the press, knocked down some shots early, and forced them into some things they didn't want to do," said head coach John Ross. "If there was a key, Kally Verkaik, Hannah Acre, and Anna Timmer all did a phenomenal job hitting the boards. If those three can 10

get 30 boards between them, we're going to win a lot of ball games. Trine was one-and-done most of the first half, and that makes a big difference." Calvin now looks forward to next weekend when it departs to California for a Christmas break trip. The Knights will play Lewis and Clark on Monday, December 22 and UC Santa Cruz on Tuesday, December 23.

I know of Winnie because she married a guy on my same dorm floor, freshman year at Calvin ('85-86)...i became somewhat friends with this guy (steve)...sort of..his dad was a CRC missionary...played sports did a little fishing with steve but didn't realize that he was such a LEFTIST at a school that is known, in general, for being more conservative and towards the right (at least the students and parents, maybe less so the faculty to a certain extent). I really feel mixed about this because they, or she, is with a party that generally is in agreement with issues that I disagree (especially same-sex marriage & abortion), and which Calvin College asks Calvin students to stand against as well (when you apply for acceptance to Calvin you must also submit a testimony of Christian faith...) 16

"Calvin remembers Dale Brown" - News and Stories - Calvin College I remember Prof Brown from my days as an English major (2nd major,'92-94). Among other things, one day he calledme & asked if I wantedto play a game of raquetball (at the old "raquetball plus" where our family had been members when I was a child). I hadn't played RB in ages, and was student teaching at the time (a tiresome task) but I agreed & showed up & found out he's like a raquetball pro...every serve like a gunshot. Needless to say he beat me...I was just left wondering what was the point? I thought he called out of a sense of comraderie, but the point was clearly to prove he was a superior raquetball player (by the way, this was while a few other members of the English dept sat & watched,& Prof. Henry Baron actually laughed,as if they had planned this together as a moment to try to humiliate me...question being why? Old school? ) God bless Dale Brown, but shame on him & the other professors for unnecessarily trying to humble me(I have already been profoundly humbled by many of life's circumstances).Nonetheless, thoughts & prayers for Dale Brown's family. http://www.mlive.com/news/grandrapids/index.ssf/2014/10/author_longtime_calvin_college.html10/9/14 http://www.calvin.edu/news/archive/calvin-remembers-dale-brown Posted by THEOLOGICAL at 7:41 AM No comments: Email ThisBlogThis!Share to TwitterShare to FacebookShare to Pinterest

Fwd: ,search:,1st CRC,Grand Rapids,pentecost,great commission,calvin seminary,christian reformed church,reformed faith ;*read more

5/9/14 re the LATE HARRY BOER (I came across this article,as I was browsing online...having searched "harry boer" because we knew him as a member at 1st CRC in Grand Rapids in his elderly years (1970's) & also b/c as I was working on a project with my mom's old photo album archives I saw a wedding picture of my mom's uncle gene & aunt franny with harry boer as the "best man". Oddly, despite attending 1st crc with him my parents never mentioned any connection to him either familial or theological (maybe they themselves didn't know). But now that I 42

know I feel privileged to be able to learn more about his work & thoughts...I only wish I could have tapped his brain while he was still alive. Like him, I also am interested & active in foreign missions as well, but I never thought of the pentecost as a greater source of inspiration for the mission of the church than the great commission itself. Interesting. It will take me a while to digest his material. Here's a tidbit. ,search:,1st CRC,Grand Rapids, pentecost, great commission, calvin seminary, christian reformed church, reformed faith ;*read more at http://standardbearer.rfpa.org/articles/dr-harry-boer-right "Boer goes on to try to explain what he means by this alleged Fundamentalist tendency in the CRC by claiming that "In many parts of the church, however, there has been a loss of appreciation for the historic correlation between creation and redemption in the theology and message of the Scriptures." Having claimed that Fundamentalism has but one central theme, redemption, while the Reformed faith has two central but intimately related themes, creation. and redemption, he claims that "The tragedy of Calvin College and Calvin Theological Seminary is that both schools have made and continue to make indirect but broad concessions to the Fundamentalistic impairment of the Reformed witness." And he claims that matters have stood thus for 65 years, i.e., ever since the Janssen Case..." 43

"Calvin College - Calvin Theatre Company - Tribute to Jim Korf" His daughter,Lisa, was in my graduating class,1985. I think she thought I was bedazzled by her cuteness, but I came to think of her more as a "sister" in Christ,of sorts,as I saw most of the gals with whom I spent so many years in Christian education. Unfortunately, most of them are "Michigan girls" for life,...you will not find too many willing or courageous enough to leave west Michigan. http://www.calvin.edu/academic/cas/ctc/anniversary/tributes/jim-korf.html Posted by THEOLOGICAL at 8:58 PM No comments: Email ThisBlogThis!Share to TwitterShare to FacebookShare to Pinterest

Saturday, November 23, 2013...For the second time in four years, the Calvin women's volleyball team has captured the national championship!! The Knights did so in dramatic style at Hope's DeVos Fieldhouse, overcoming a two-setsto-none deficit to win a 20-25, 12-25, 25-22, 25-17, 20-18 thriller..." http://www.calvin.edu/sports/womens/volleyball/ http://www.mlive.com/smallcolleges/grandrapids/index.ssf/2013/11/calvin_college_claims_natio nal.html "...Saturday night at DeVos Fieldhouse, the Knights trailed Cal Lutheran University 2-0 in the national championship match, but rallied to beat the Regals 3-2 and claim their second national championship in four years. Calvin (35-1), which also won the national volleyball championship in 2010 and which had been ranked No. 1 most of this season, edged No. 3 Cal Lutheran (35-2) 20-25, 12-25, 25-22, 25-17, 20-18. A 10-minute break between the second 74

and third sets gave the Knights the breather they needed to regain their composure, and the momentum. "This is a really hard sport to win, especially at this level," said Calvin College coach Amber Warners, who is a Holland native. "We said no volleyball talk for the first six minutes of that 10minute break, but after that, the first thing I said was, 'We have been in this situation before, flipped. You can flip it back." The Knights, whose only loss this season came on the DeVos Fieldhouse floor in an MIAA match against the Flying Dutch, did flip the momentum following that 10minute break, thanks in large part to tournament Most Valuable Player Maggie Kamp, a sophomore outside hitter from Orland Park, Ill. Kamp had 27 kills in the championship match and 19 of them came in the final three sets. "She has that drive and when she gets ticked off that's how she plays," Warner said of the 6-foot-2 Kamp, who also was named a first-team All-American this year. "Coming from last year, losing in 5 after being ahead two, I love those high intensity moments," Kamp said. "This is what we play volleyball for, and I do play better when I'm pretty mad." Cal Lutheran defeated Wisconsin-Stevens Point in Friday's semifinals, after Stevens Point eliminated Hope in the quarterfinals. "Huge kudos to Cal Lu," Warners said. "I thought their team was really, really good. In a match like that it's too bad there has to be a loser.", http://www.mlive.com/smallcolleges/grandrapids/index.ssf/2013/11/calvin_college_claims_natio nal.html "The Lord confides in those who fear Him; He makes His covenant known to them. Fwd: 10/4/13 SHOULD CALVIN SEMINARY ACCEPT GRANT $ FROM "LILLY ENDOWMENT"

10/4/13 SHOULD CALVIN SEMINARY ACCEPT GRANT $ FROM "LILLY ENDOWMENT" ( a few years ago I noticed fuller seminary accepted grant $ from the Lilly Endowment, & had concerns then, & now calvin seminary is doing likewise. My concern is that because the Lilly Endowment is indirectly connected to the Eli Lilly Pharmaceutical giant, there may be some subtle pressure to "speak well" of Eli Lilly & the use of medication in general rather than the pure gospel. Don't get me wrong. I think the proper use of medication is fine, but am concerned when society puts pills on the highest pedestal & potential solution to almost all problems. Certainly, some preachers will think twice about criticizing pharmaceuticals when they realize that their class at seminary was paid for by a pharmaceutical company. So I ask, IS THERE A HIDDEN AGENDA by LILLY? search:center for excellence in preaching, http://www.crcna.org/news-and-views/seminary-receives-lilly-grant-preaching? utm_source=CRC+News&utm_campaign=9b95d8b05f-CRC+News+ %7C+October+2%2C+2013&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_468bc4c3c9-9b95d8b05f84

8/4/12 re PAUL SCHRADER, CALVIN ALUMNUS & HOLLYWOOD FILM MAKER

see main blog with pics at http://seeing-paulschrader.blogspot.com/2013/08/8413-filmdirector-paul-schrader-re.html 8/4/13 PAUL SCHRADER INTRO 2 "MISHIMA", ...so I went to see legendary film director/screenwriter et al, Paul Schrader, at a showing of his 1985 film "Mishima:A Life in Four Chapters" at the Hammer Museum, & Paul spoke at the beginning and end of the movie, answering audience questions as well. He briefly mentioned his new film 92

"Canyons" at the very end ..., albeit I don't completely comprehend what he said...while the moderator joked "its all Lindsay Lohan"..; most of the talk was about the making of Mishima...a film which I had never seen before, & which is apparently based on a true story about a Japanese writer et al. I had a personal interest in seeing Paul Schrader because he grew up in my same tradition & same hometown of Grand Rapids (MI). Of course he's several decades older & from a different era but we attended the same high school (grand rapids christian) & college (calvin). And of course he was a bit of a notorious legend by the time I was a student...with folklore about how he was a bit of a rebel at calvin college (the story goes that he was on the staff of the student newspaper "The Chimes" and got into some hot water over his reporting about a scandal re a professor having an affair. If I recall correctly, a student went to the college chaplain for counseling about this affair 93

expecting that the counselor-client confidentiality would be respected but the chaplain apparently used the information to get the professor fired; and if I recall, Schrader was critical of the chaplain & so the college became critical of Schrader, etc ..can't recall if Schrader got kicked out of calvin or fired from the chimes or exactly what, but something transpired, & then of course in his movie "Hard Core" he used plenty of calvinist themes , or satired them, & also even filmed some parts of the movie in Grand Rapids. So what I was thinking of asking Schrader, if I had the chance, was whether he was still a Christian, or was he ever? He speaks of "calvinism" often, even as he took the podium to introduce himself this evening, but I wanted to know if he simply still has a personal faith in Jesus Christ or not. Nonetheless,I decided not to say anything...would have rather have spoken with him personally, but didn't get the chance. Tomorrow (8/5) he will return for a 94

showing of "The Canyons" which so far has not gotten many favorable reviews (from some critics who have seen it early) but it hasn't been released yet to the general public. This showing is sold out, but sometimes they have no-shows & release a few tickets to stand-bys. I don't have much curiosity about the movie,so I'm not sure I will even try to get a standby ticket, and my curiousity to see Paul Schrader in person has been fulfilled, so I may leave it at that. I would like to hear him talk, some time, about growing up in grand rapids, etc, but don't know when that might happen,if ever, at least not in los angeles. I don't know if he has ever been invited back to calvin college or our Christian high school..probably not given the nature of some of his films (ie profanity, nudity, etc) . He was asked about his late brother Leonard (also a screenwriter who was less-known than Paul) and Paul lamented that they had "fallen apart" after Paul became more successful & never had a chance to truly 95

reconcile before he died. I still have some questions I would like answered..about his parents, about how calvinism apparently negatively influenced him, etc. Maybe some day. AT CALVIN, THE STORY OF LEO PETERS (my grandpa) & BUILDING A "BONFIRE" ON THE ROOF

JP VANDERKOK Oct 5 • •

DID U EVER HEAR THE STORY ABOUT MY GRANDPA,LEO PETERS, & HIS COLLEGE BONFIRE ON THE ROOF ? Here's part of it, or click on the link & search for "leo peters". "...George Stob, a senior, had been elected president of the council in September, and Peter De Vries, a junior, had been elected vice president; but they unfortunately did not remain in office long. It seems thatLeo Peters, a sophomore at the time, decided to build a "safe" fire on the dorm's flat roof as a prank and thus provide the populace with a harmless "scare." He required for his purpose a large sheet of protective asbestos and, of course, the fuel for burning. But having at the time no means of transportation, he enlisted the services of Peter De Vries, who owned a car and who happened to be in the company of George Stob at the time. The three of them set out on their errand, procured the required materials, and brought them back to the campus. Stob and De Vries then left the scene and took no part in the ensuing conflagration. However, Peters and some companions started and manned a roof fire of some proportions which, being seen and reported by fearful neighbors, brought out the fire department and caused considerable excitement. No damage was done, except to the composure of the neighbors and to the sensibilities of the faculty's discipline committee. What punishment Peters received I do not recall, but George Stob and Peter De Vries were held to be accessories to the "crime" and were deprived of their offices. John Dolfin was thereupon elevated to the presidency, and Henry Zylstra became vice president; I served the council as secretary...." http://stobfamily.com/henry_stob/summoning_up_remembrance/summoning_up_remembrance_c hapter5.html

http://www.scribd.com/doc/126262135/SALVAGED -T-NOTES-aka-GOD-NOTES-ORIGINALLYPOSTED-to-POSTEROUS •

I started a website entitled “God Notes”, among others, on posterous.com (posterous was subsequently purchased by Twitter but promised everything would remain as-is) on 11/30/10 and continued posting to it thru 8/16/12. Around that time, or shortly thereafter, I suddenly received a pop-up telling me that I was “permanently banned” from posting on posterous. It did NOT explain why, not offer any opportunity to “contact” them and ask for more information, etc. Subsequently, I wrote a letter via postal mail to the last known address of posterous headquarters in San Francisco and it subsequently was returned to me unread, as if there is nobody in that office anymore. Posterous did NOT go out-of-business, and you can still browse various posterous websites, but they removed ALL of mine except for one; namely my audio-bible website entitled www.HearingTheWord.posterous.com .

• •

As of 2/19/13 this is the only posterous website of mine (of many) that remains available for viewing (and listening; it’s an audio site). Also subsequently, YouTube terminated my account citing, randomly, “copyright” issues and ‘community guideline” violations. However, YouTube signaled to me that they can pick-&-choose what they consider to be “community guidelines” even if it means being “too good” which seems to be the case (in one instance they chose a posting I made about an 127

injured professional football player, entitled “thoughts & prayers for…” and used NO outside media footage(neither video or image or anything else) but simply a photo of the player’s name (created & photographed by me). Hence, what I ascertained, indirectly, was that I was becoming a political “hit job” by posterous/twitter and YouTube/google. They do NOT want nor like users who are “too conservative” (and yet I consider myself a moderate on the conservative side, indicating that extreme liberalism is the preferred “norm” for these institutions; whereas I frequently spoke out, and continue to do so, against abortion, and against gay marriage (yet am against gay bashing of any kind) . • •

Fortunately, I managed to salvage some of the posts by going back to my gmail account from which the post was sent. However, in some cases this does not include the original content if it was linked to a YouTube video, etc. Nor do I have the time or means to put it all back together from the original content because I do not have a “perfect cataloging system” for all my various media means & modes (much of it I do have backed up here& there but it’s on various different flash-drives, cd’s etc, some of which subsequently failed, or in one case I had a few flash-drives stolen).

Hence, the only response to such deletion or loss of intellectual property is to try to at least show what activity you did on such behalf (for the doubters, scoffers, cynics, & political hitmen) and urge fellow 128

believers to put pressure on such institutions against political hit jobs (one problem being that conservatives tend not to make much, or enough, “noise” (perhaps part of the reason we still have an extremely liberal president) while small segments of liberalism make disproportionate “noise” to get what they want (the gay community being one of them). With that said, I present to you my T-note (standing for “theological notes) or “god note” library, in part, for what it is worth; and also possibly for potential future legal action against Posterous/Twitter and/or YouTube/Google .
