Re Angel gift Shop Wouldn't Give Me a Plastic Bag During Rain,Unless...shame on that young lady or whoever gives such orders! Which brings up another subject. Due to the rainout on Sunday (7/19) I wanted to go to my car,but needed a plastic bag to protect my electronics (phone & radio). It was raining so hard that my electronics would likely be ruined by the rain without plastic. So I went to the Angels gift shop & asked for a simple plastic bag...not even a special "angel bag" ....but one of their basic large baggies they provide for customers. The Latino gal said,"If you donate a dollar we 1
can give you a bag." I couldn't believe it.These are not special bags. Its the first time its rained like this in 20 years (during a game,or before a game) so they can't say "If we did that every time it rained,we would run out of plastic bags....blah blah blah'" This latino gal was probably from a poor working class family, but by being part of the angel team she puts on a persona of snob. Its unbelievable how people will lose a sense of care when given a role to play. Reminds me of the famous psychology case where the person was told to inflict a shock on a person every time the person fails 2
to answer a question correctly. People lose their sense of conscience. And yet if she had showed some basic care (& class) it would have endeared me to the Angels all the more & make me more likely to spend more in the future because of the hospitality. So what I ended up doing, just to get a bag so I could leave the game without ruining my phone, was buying something cheap (all I had was my credit card,no cash,so I couldn't make a dollar donation anyways) & saved the receipt & the next day returned 3
it for a refund. It was the principle of the matter. I'm pretty sure this petty stinginess of the latino gal doesn't come from the top. I don't think Angel management is that cheap. I wonder if the gal concocted it herself to try to get a dollar from me. The only problem is at the time I didn't see anybody but other Latinos who would probably back her up at the moment. I would have to find a higher-level person to appeal the obstinancy of this gal,and didn't have the inclination to do so at the time. Shame on this gal!

Ironically, angel employees don't get a "cut" of the profits at the end of the year. Even if I did give her a dollar for a bag it doesn't do her any good (unless she's pocketing it). And if they give me a 5 cent plastic bag (probably even less than that ) meaning their bottom line is 5 cents less at the end of the year,it won't make a difference for this hourly wage employee. Some of them get enmeshed in their minds that they are part of the fabric of angel team, but they themselves are a dime a dozen & can be fired at-will.They are nothing special but think they are "more angelic" than mere fans (who pay their wages) simply 5
because they are employees. They work for US,but yet by being part of the Angel organization they internalize a superiority complex, whether they are a janitor or a cashier or a exit usher, etc. Its crazy! And let's hope this is not an Angel thing, just the exception.
