IoT DIY Headset In many households people do not feel empowered or confident enough to tackle everyday D.I.Y tasks. This is primarily due t o a lack o f s ufficient knowledge and understanding. The role of completing D.I.Y jobs in the last ten years has primarily been outsourced to professionals. This project aims to empower individuals and encourage the development of new skills which can be helpful in improving everyday life.

Emerge was a brand identity I designed for my final year thesis project, where I looked at “How can a human centered design approach be used to develop a more appropriate wheelchair suited to third world context, while addressing the high cost and weight of wheelchairs currently available?”. The project required in depth research with wheelchair users an occupational therapist as well as current wheelchair manufacturers in order to reach a final design solution.

In search of a possible design solution, a number of different sketches were developed in the form of both 2D and 3D sketches. This allowed for a variety of different designs. These sketches were used as a way to get initial ideas down and explore various concept directions.
An important aspect of the project is to gain feedback from all the participants at every step of the design process, from initial sketches through to more refined CAD development. This allows a better understanding from all the participants gaining a better insight into their various perspectives. Having the participants critique each step in the process allowed for a more resolved final design.

st, weight and aesthetics described by all particpants as being the South African market. The main idea behind Emerge is the hair. This enables each wheelchair frame to be easily customcturing costs. All the parts found on the wheelchair are easily er access to parts compared to that of imported parts
At various stages in the projects prototypes had to be made. These prototypes enable participants to have a more visual, tangible object to interact with. It also allowed them to play around with the overall proportions of the wheelchair and experiment with how each of the components would work on the wheelchair. These components were 3D printed and attached to the frame of the prototype.
WIFI PANIC REMOTE Client based project: 4th Year
Working hand in hand with the two lead designers from KM Design, a long running design consultancy based in Johannesburg, South Africa. We were required to design a panic remote for elderly individuals. Using a circuit board provided, the design had to be simple, elegant and easy to use while issues such as arthritis and poor eyesight had to be taken into consideration. This lead to the design of A.O.H the “Always-On-Helper”.
In search of a possible design solution, a number of q uick s ketches w ere drawn. For this p roject t he d esigners from K M Design w anted us t o get experience designing within Solidworks. We needed to understand all the technical aspects required t o injection mould the various components.

A.O.H (Always-on-helper) was designed with multiple injection moulded components. Restrictions such as draft tapers, wall thickness, ribbing and tolerencing were all considered throughout the design process. The remote was designed around the PCB board from the engineers required us to use.

LAYER LAMP First project in 4th Year
A set of lighting designs had to be created, through the process of slip casting with the incorporation of other materials. The brief required a design language that had to be applied to a table lamp, free standing lamp and a chandelier. All requiring a minimum of three individual ceramic components per design. The project was focused on the creation of a lighting solution which embraces a “neo-sculptural” quality throught the use of ceramics.
In search of a possible design solution, a number of quick sketches were drawn. For this project the sketches explored the use of three separate ceramic components to create the table, standing lamp and chandelier.
Colour Variations Layers is a standing and table lamp, made up of three slip cast components. The design is inspired by the organic shapes found within corel reefs. Coral reefs also have an array of colours which are formed through the layering found in nature (coral reefs). In my design I tried to mimic these organic shapes through the free flow random cuts found all the three ceramic pieces. Once lit the light will create a ranfe of hues which will create further depth. The Design of the ceramic lamp has allowed for a range of different colour variations to be explored. The various colour iterations made the lamp customizable to fit any enviroment. Colours range from neutral greys to vibrant blues, greens and reds.

Designed at Wiid Design in 2017. The ceramic table collection is a collaboration between Wiid Design and Ceramic Matters. The overall concept was designed at Wiid design, Ceramic Matters creating the unique reactive glazed tiles showcased in each table. The beauty behind this range is the bespoke nature of the tiles as each reactive glaze is unique in colour due to the nature of ceramic firing. The ceramic tables are manufactured with American Walnut legs and steel bases housing the tiles.
Standard round Table
Segmented round Table
Designed as a more cost effective alternative to the segmented table. The standard round table has been designed as one large base to hold the ceramic tiles, creating a single surface.
Designed to be a completely flat packed design. Each component can be detached including the three ceramic tile segments.

Drop Leaf Table
The Ceramic coffee table seeks a middle ground between the size of the Drop Leaf table and the Ceramic round tables. The coffee table inspiration stems from the shape of the Drop Leaf table.
Designed as a oneoff piece the Drop leaf table has 45 unique design reactive glazed tiles which sit perfectly inside the steel frame of the table. The drop leaf arms allows for the table to be configured various ways dependent on a users requirements.

Terra planters Design for Indigenus - Wiid design 2017 Designed at Wiid Design, Terra was a new range of planters for Indigenous (a Cape town based planter company). The elegantly tapered planters are placed on a solid Iroko (leg) base to give a sense of lightness and modernity while creating an impression of openness. The versatility of the Terra planters allows them to stand well on their own, staggered together in various heights, in a loose cluster, or even lining a wall.
