PENNJAMIN BANNEKAR
BIOGRAPHY The artist known as Pennjamin Bannekar (real name Damion Hudson) was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan but raised in Chicago, Illinois. Chicago is where he discovered his passion for hip hop music especially with Chicago having the heart of an underground but very vibrant hip-hop scene. Falling in love with the creative process and writing, Penn decided to major in Communications and graduated from University of Illinois Champaign Urbana. College was where Penn began to grow as an artist and started to receive acclaim. Upon graduation, Penn came back to Chicago and formed the hip-hop group Project: Fr3sh with Mark Byrd and Mac Universe. While in Project: Fr3sh, Penn changed his name from Penn the God to Pennjamin Bannekar. Given the name by his friends as a joke, he began to love the meaning behind it and chose to use it as his stage name. After a 2-year run with the group, Penn went solo and began to become the unsung hype of Chicago’s hip hop scene. His first solo project was his mixtape Hello World. The success of Hello World set up the release of his debut fulllength album HeartBeat. HeartBeat was released on May 3, 2011. The first single from HeartBeat was ILLwrite. The single was a proper introduction of who he was and was picked up by MTV. HeartBeat went on to be named Album Of The Month by critics after landing write ups in the Chicago Tribune. Because of the amazing buzz surrounding the release of HeartBeat, he was able to tour with renowned artists such as Dwele, Elzhi and Bilal Oliver. Penn’s sophomore album “Paper Plane Pilots” was released in November 17, 2015. On Paper Plane Pilots, Penn had the opportunity to work with producers such as Flawless Tracks, !llmind, Superstaar Beats, and Canis Major as well as celebrated Chicago producers The Fr3shmen who have collaborated with Fabolous, Jeremih, Cassie, Raekwon, and Travis Parker among others. Paper Plane Pilots introduced Penn to a new audience. With the release of the singles Word, Thief feat. Felly the Voice and Likes, Penn demonstrated his ability to take topics such as the obsession with social media likes and create witty and melodic tracks based off of his personal experiences that deeply resonated with his viewers and listeners. While promoting Paper Plane Pilots and collaborating with Chicago area artists throughout 2016 and 2017, Penn was able secure placements with YouTube Red TV shows as well as co-wrote on R&B singer Dhniera Blu's solo debut album Blu Sessions which charted on the iTunes R&B/Soul Chart Top 200 upon its release. Eager to release his next full body of work, Pennjamin Bannekar opened up 2018 with the release of his 1/11 EP on January 11, 2018, respectively. The 8 song EP featured the lead single, Alter Prayer and features appearances by Dhniera Blu, D2G and longtime collaborator J. Hill. 1/11 Penn’s intent with 1/11 was to find the joy in every aspect of life and to celebrate this pivotal moment in his career with his listeners and supporters. Eager to start 2019 off with a bang, Penn will release Pennjamin Bannekar Presents: 2019 in a unique way. The 36 track album will showcase a different side of Penn and his writing style and current state of mind. Three songs from the album will be released each month along with mini clips that will give viewers further insight into who Penn is as an artist. Penn’s current web series Bannekar in 60, (also known as B:60) shows off the fun and carefree side of Penn and has been an instant hit with his Instagram and Facebook followers. Never considering that he has reached his best, Penn continues to take his own artistry to the next level. A student to his craft, he studies legends in the hip hop industry to further comprehend the definitions of great. Penn says that music is always in his head and that music is not only an outlet but fulfills him and gives him passion and purpose. He plans to continue to release meaningful content and hopes that one day he can be seen in the same positive light as the artists he has looked up to when he was just a young kid from Chicago with a dream.

1/11 EP FEATURETTE
Excerpt from 4thshore.com Interview Q: You started off the year strong with your EP 1/11. What was it like making that project? What’s your favorite song off the tape?
A: The final form of 1/11 is the 3rd and final version of the EP. The previous 2 versions of this project were called All Smiles and Apparently Transparent. All Smiles had a lot of uplifting songs where as Apparently Transparent had a lot of songs that dealt with deeper issues that I had experienced and I kind of aired them out. 1/11 was more of a celebration and being that I released it on my actual birthday, a celebration was the way to go lol.
