Key Club was created in 1925 by Albert C. Olney and Frank C. Vincent who were high School administrators in Sacramento, California. After going to their Kiwanis Club with an idea to start a club for high school students to serve and create better school spirit, the club was formed with key boys from the school. Pretty soon the club expanded out of Sacramento High School throughout the country and even Canada. Eventually, the club expanded out of the U.S and Canada to Nassau, Bahamas in 1967. Originally the club was only for males, but as the club began to expand female pupils were finally granted the opportunity to be part of the club in 1977. It was not until 1987 that Kiwanis allowed them to be members. Not that long after Michelle McMillen became the first female president to be elected Key Club president. As, the club has grown, a lot of people have benefited due to the fundraising Key Club has done. Key Club once raised $1.2 million for IDD in 1998 and $1.3 million HIV/AIDS in Swaziland in 2008. Key Club was created about 88 years and is still successfully flourishing in about 30 countries.
