Student Organization Advisors

Each student organization must have an advisor who is a member of the administration, faculty, or staff. The Assistant Director of Student Programming must approve the advisor. All activities sponsored by classes or clubs should adhere to the following procedures:

1) Advisors can be involved in supporting the club executive members, general members and the planning of some or all club programs. 2) Advisors should actively support the education of club presidents and the overall function of the club

To join co-curricular organizations, the advisor or organization president should be contacted. Only VU students are eligible to be members of these organizations.

Formation of Student Organizations and Clubs

Students who wish to form a Student Organization must obtain an application called the Student Organization Charter from the Office of Student Engagement located in The Bridge. Once completed and returned to the Assistant Director of Student Programming, the Student Organization Charter will be reviewed for approval or denial. Such approval shall be based upon the purpose and need for such an organization and the degree to which it aligns with the University mission, objectives and policy.

Regulations for Student Organizations and Clubs

Membership in student organizations and clubs must be open to all students without regard to ethnicity, gender, age, ability, or social status. Compliance of each member of University co-curricular organizations is required (see section on student participation in co-curricular activities.) The purpose, activities, and name of the organization should align with the overall objectives of the University. Where funds are handled, procedures prescribed by the Office of Accounting Operations should be followed.

Student Participation

Student leadership ofco-curricular and extra-curricular activities requires a cumulative GPA of 2.0. Students on academic probation are ineligible to hold a student body office and advised to limit themselves to only one co-curricular or extra-curricular activity. Some student leadership assignments and student organizations require higher GPA standards and full-time student status for membership appointment/election. Refer to the organizational constitution or policy statements for such guidelines.

Honor Societies

Many departments have honor societies. Please contact the academic department of interest for more information.
