Career Readiness Competencies Assignment

What is Career Readiness? Career Readiness is the process of preparing students with the essential skills to enhance their professional and career development as they transition in the workplace. It is key for students to demonstrate the eight career readiness competencies by reflecting upon their experiences to articulate how they have shown these competencies from current and previous experiences. This will provide an opportunity for students to identify skills within each of the competencies to help develop content for their resume, interviews, when preparing for career fairs, and to ultimately equip students for success in their career journey.

For this assignment, students will reflect upon the eight career readiness competencies (Please reference Table 1.2 to review the definitions for each of the competencies) The expectation is for students to provide a descriptive example demonstrating how they have shown the skills listed on the right-hand column (Please reference Table 1.1 for an example) Student will be required to provide examples from volunteer, work, internships, academic courses, community service, etc to highlight how they have demonstrated the skills/competencies.

NOTE: Please note that each of the skills listed on the left-hand column represent one of the eight career readiness competencies.

Examples (work, volunteer, academic, internships, etc.):

Collaborated with 3 classmates from my research methods course. We were conducting a qualitative research assignment. My strengths in harmony and strong communication skills allowed for the team to set task deadlines in completing the surveys, assigning the lead for the focus group interviews, and identifying the person to gather academic journals for research purposes. This provided an opportunity for all team members to work well in a group setting and to communicate effectively with each other.
