As the Vancouver Island Construction Association (VICA), we serve our construction community: the institutional, commercial, industrial, civil, and multi-residential construction sectors on Vancouver Island, the Gulf Islands, and other coastal areas of British Columbia. VICA members come from all areas of our construction community.

VICA’s expansive event portfolio provides members opportunities to meet industry leaders, expand their network, and learn about trends and issues specific to the Vancouver Island construction sector. And not to mention having an a bit of fun, too!

With hundreds of VICA Members and other industry professionals in attendance, VICA events are a tremendous opportunity for your firm to gain exposure across Vancouver Island. The sponsorship opportunities available will bring your organization to a network looking to build relationships and develop business.

2022 OVERVIEW

After two pandemic-laden years we were excited to roll out our most ambitious event schedule to date. This included the return of the VICA Golf Tournament, a new partnership with the Pacific Football Club, two Hardhat in the Ballpark events, our Summer Sizzler Member Mixers and our VICA Christmas Luncheon.

For our summer events we had 704 attendees from 214 registered companies attend these events. We engaged 99 individual member companies over 3 months – which is 24% of our total membership. Of the 214 member companies, about 58% were Victoria based and 42% were Nanaimo based. Our sold-out 2022 Christmas Luncheon had 56 individual companies attend with 312 attendees.

After selling out in less than a day, the LEGENDARY VICA Golf Tournaments have returned for the 2nd year in a row! These events will take place in the Summer of 2023.

The VICA Golf Tournaments bring together VICA Members and their guests, as we wack, walk and talk our way around golf courses that will be announced soon. Each tournament will have separate sponsor opportunities as stated below. We anticipate hosting a tournament in Victoria and the mid-island.

Join us in a VICA parking lot from 12:00 to 1:30 PM and enjoy a burger, smokie, and snacks on us! These are our version of a Tailgate Party, designed for you to eat, meet, and reconnect with other VICA Members and the VICA Staff.

We’ve got a full day of family fun, starting with the pregame tailgate featuring bouncy castles, fun games, and a BBQ lunch at the Island Training Centre in the Summer of 2023.

We’ll then all hop on a bus to Starlight Stadium to watch our very own Pacific FC in our own section. VICA will have a tent set up with fun activities right at the game if you need a break from the action!

One of our most popular events - a festive affair just for VICA Members. Raise a glass with our favorite people to a busy year past and an exciting year ahead.

Funds raised through sponsorship and registration will go towards families in need in the communities we live and work in, with the support of elementary schools across the Island.

Last year, we donated $13,000 worth of grocery gift cards. This event will take place in December of 2023.

Women in Construction (WiC)

Women in Construction (WiC) is a grassroots Vancouver Island network working to promote and support female participation in one of the key sectors of our provincial economy: construction.

WiC is open to anyone who considers themselves a “woman in construction”, as well as those who support women working in the industry. The network is comprised of private and public sector workers, students, engineers, apprentices, labourers, tradespersons, project managers, developers, architects, and professional admin staff.

WiC Nanaimo meet bi-monthly, taking a break in the July and August. WiC Victoria meets monthly, also taking July and August off.

The Under 40 (U40) and Young Builders Network’s (YBN) mandate is to develop a network in order to provide an atmosphere of networking to build relationships within the construction community; to present information, professional development and leadership or mentorship opportunities that will benefit the individual U40/YBN members and their respective companies; to participate in community engagement initiatives; and to support and promote career paths in the construction industry.

The U40 Network works primarily in the Nanaimo region and meets bimonthly.

The Young Builders Network is based in Victoria and meets monthly.

Women in Construction Signature Events

Powerhouse Panel

Now in it’s fifth year, the WiC Victoria Powerhouse Panel consists of an industry-focused panel discussion featuring key women from the ICI and multi-residential construction sector. In years past panels have focused on succession, sustainability in the built environment, human resource, and leadership.

Summer Social

Both the WiC Victoria and WiC Nanaimo host separate Summer Socials events, toasting the start of summer with an evening of games, prizes and socializing. The WiC Nanaimo Summer Social also acts as their annual fundraiser for a local charity in the Nanaimo/Parksville area!

The Powerhouse Panel takes place in late February.

Winter Social

Celebrate the holiday season with friends and colleagues.

The WiC Victoria Winter Social is a sell-out event, bringing together excellent company, great food, and festive cheer.
