Dear Customer Ocean Rainwear was founded in 1958 and started manufacturing and selling waterproof clothing to the commercial fishing industry and craftsmen. Today, we are not only one of the market leaders for the professional market but we also offer a wide range of children’s and outdoor/leisure waterproofs. The newest development is a line of “Ocean Work Wear”. To meet the always-increasing demands and wishes of the markets we continuously develop our ranges using only the best and most advanced materials. It is this combination of experience, knowledge and technology that guarantees functional products of the very best quality. Our vision is to be an innovative and profitable company which, based on know-how, a good working environment for our employees, flexibility and constant development, wants to offer our business partners products that makes them perform better. EN471 is a common European Hi-Visibility standard. This governs the specification of all (EN 471) certified work wear and rainwear, which is used in working environments, for example areas with traffic where it is important to be seen. Below we have tried to describe the most important guidelines, which should be the foundation of your choice of safety rainwear. The EN471 Norm makes demands on the visibility in the work situations where the employees work without effective separation from traffic/hazardous areas. This meaning most types of road works, work by railways and buildings sites and the like. Even if this work is only a small part of the working day, safety wear should be worn.

Ocean is using international approved institutes for testing of garments. You are always welcome to request copies of the test results.

EN471 Norm is divided into 3 classifications The classification describes how well the product is able to protect the user. The bigger the area of fluorescent fabric and reflective stripes, the higher the classification will be. Classification 3 - should be worn by all working by the road, on railway lines and rescue workers, and also whilst working on and around buildings sites with machine traffic. As a rule, a set of work clothes fulfils the demands for classification 3, when it’s worn together. A set of work clothes should be understood as a combination between a jacket and trousers/overall. Coveralls and certain jackets are also classified as Class 3. Classification 2 - Supervisors, who only check the work, should use classification 2 wear. Class 2 wear is typically a hi-vis waistcoat, a pair of overalls or a jacket. Classification 1 - is typically trousers, which as the only safety wear must be worn by visitors. Although a hi-vis waistcoat class 2 would be preferred with this. (see below) Remember that workers in the area should always accompany visitors. If your work changes through the day, or if you are in doubt, classification 3 clothes are recommended.

teChniCal informations Water density and breathability When clothing claims to be waterproof, not the whole truth is told. That’s why we at Ocean Rainwear choose to expand on the information. Our products are made of either polyester/cotton/PVC, polyester/PU or a 3-layer fabric with membrane between them. The three different fabrics have different qualities, depending on use. No textile is 100% waterproof. Water will penetrate the fabric as the water pressure increases. This is true for all textiles. In practice a product that is able to resist a water column of 15.000-20.000 mm feels waterproof, as we only exceed this column in extreme situations. Cotton/polyester/PVC, which we use, resists a water column of 15.000-20.000 mm. Because polyester/PU is a little thinner and stretchable it feels more comfortable to wear. We use a fabric resisting water column of 8.000 mm. When using this fabric it is possible for water to penetrate if you sit on a wet bike saddle or a wet seat of a tractor. This also applies if sailing in rough seas. This is also relevant for 3-layer products with membrane like, for instance, Tritex or polyester coated with PU-membrane. The dilemma for the customer is deciding, on the one hand, how much water column a product should be able to resist and, on the other, the comfort and the breathability. Therefore, when choosing a product, it is crucial to consider for which purpose the product is needed. Breathability is measured in mvp = moisture vapour perspiration. MVP tells you how much moisture can vaporise through the fabric per m2 per 24 hours. The higher the number, the higher the wear comfort.
