During the 2000-01 season, he worked with the Canadian national women’s team’s goaltenders prior to their World Championship. Fisher has worked at hockey camps in both Canada and the United States and is considered one of North America’s top goaltending instructors. He was one of the Blues great goaltenders of the 1980s and helped backstop U of T to an undefeated season in 1981-82. Fisher is also involved in coaching soccer at the rep level. Fisher is a high school teacher who lives in Mississauga with his wife Veronica and their children, Jennifer, Shannon, Ellen and Tim.

2009-10 Season Preview After returning to the top of the division standings to win their eighth mid-East title in nine years in 2008-09, the Blues look to once again win the division, compete for the conference title, and vie for a berth in the national championships. The Blues have 18 players eligible to return from last year’s roster and have several key recruits to help bolster a strong group of returnees. On defence, the Blues will be led by OUA all-stars Brendan Sherrard and Ed Snetsinger. A fifth-year veteran, Sherrard will look to build on his 21 points in 2008-09 and go out with a bang in his final year of eligibility. The Blues most valuable player last season, Snetsinger led the team with 23 assists and returns for his fourth campaign in 200910. Third-year defencemen Andrew Kizito and Sean Kliewer will be counted on to provide leadership and complete the core group of returning defencemen. Kizito has excellent defensive and offensive abilities and will be expected to log a lot of minutes as well as provide more offence. At 6-foot-2, Kliewer has size and strength and will be relied upon to deliver hard open-ice hits. Mark Delost is entering his sophomore year and will be expected to step into a regular shift. A trio of freshmen, Zack Fenwick (Kingston OHL), Matt Walters (Salmon Arm BCHL) and Tyler Turcotte (Lindsay OPJHL), join the Blues’ defensive unit. Fenwick has an excellent shot and tremendous skating ability, while Walters has great leadership qualities and will contribute offensively. Finally, Turcott will add size and strength to the blue line. At centre, Joe Rand returns for his fifth and final year of OUA competition. Rand provides size and experience and will once again be a key part of the team’s offence, facing most of the competition’s top lines. Sophomores Joel Lenius and Claudio Cowdrey also give the Blues experience down the middle. Lenius had a great finish to last season, while Cowdrey has explosive speed and looks be an offensive threat this year. Brent McGrail (Hamilton Jr. Red Wings) is the lone first-year centreman. He has excellent offensive skills and was one of the top-ranked players in the team’s fitness testing. On the right side, Dan Brewer will play his third season for the Blue and White. Brewer has come to camp in great physical condition and, at 6-foot-3, 216lbs, can be a physical presence. A trio of right wingers are back for their second campaigns; Paul Dupont, Rob Kay and Bryden Teich. Dupont played very well as a rookie and should be able to contribute more offensively. Kay is versatile and possesses tremendous puck handling and shooting skills, while Teich can play either wing and is a tenacious forechecker with touch around the net. Veteran Sean Fontyn brings the most experience to the left wing, energy and hustle to the table. Second-year players Byron Elliott and Dave Mooney will help to bolster the left side. As a rookie, Elliott led the Blues in scoring and will be expected to do much of the same this year. Mooney has made huge strides and will compete for a regular shift. Rookie Kyle Paige (Kingston Frontenacs) is an offensive-minded player who adds another weapon to the Blues offensive arsenal. In goal, Russ Brownell, Andrew Martin and Mark Miller all return. Brownell and Martin have shared the starter’s role in the past two seasons and will battle for the position again in 2009-10 with Miller ready as a capable and reliable back up. The Varsity Blues open their 2009-10 season on the road, facing off against the Gee-Gees in Ottawa on Friday, October 9. Game times is set for 7 p.m. The Blues return to Varsity Arena for their homeopener against the Ryerson Rams on Sunday, October 18. Puck drop is scheduled for 2 p.m.

2008 Year in Review The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men’s hockey team finished the regular season atop the OUA mid East division with a 14-11-0-3 record to earn a bye into the quarter-final round. The Blues faced the defending OUA champion McGill Redmen in a best two-of-three series. 2009-10 Men’s Hockey Media Guide

Record Manual VARSITY BLUES HISTORY As part of the Varsity Blues family, men’s hockey is one of 44 men’s and women’s teams in 26 sports offered by U of T. The breadths of the Varsity Blues experience and legacy are unmatched at a Canadian university. Tradition, success and excellence are three words that are synonymous with Varsity Blues hockey. The hockey Blues, one of the University of Toronto’s oldest and most successful teams, were formed on January 15, 1891. In 1902-03, Toronto joined Queen’s and McGill to form Canada’s first intercollegiate hockey league. The late Conn Smythe, founder of the Toronto Maple Leafs, was a Blues coach from 1923 to 1926, the first in a number of well-known personalities to stand behind the Varsity bench. Smythe was also a player and Blues captain while studying engineering in 1915. When Smythe founded the Maple Leafs, he ‘borrowed’ the familiar Varsity Blues sweater design for his new team. Other well-known Blues coaches include former Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson (1926-28), Ace Bailey (1935-40 and 1945-49), Justice Joseph Kane (1962-65) and Mike Keenan (1983-84). Tom Watt, a major influence in Canadian hockey, led the Blues to nine of their 10 national titles during his coaching career at U of T, which spanned from 1965 to 1979, and again in 1984-85. Watt was a member of the Canadian Olympic team coaching staff in 1980 and 1988 and has been head coach of the NHL’s Winnipeg Jets, Vancouver Canucks and Toronto Maple Leafs. The Blues have played a prominent role on the international hockey scene. The Varsity Grads, a team of former Blues players, captured the gold medal at the 1928 Olympic Games in St. Moritz, Switzerland. In 1968, the Blues earned the bronze medal for Canada at the World University Games. In February 1972, the Blues thrilled a capacity crowd at Varsity Arena with a dramatic 5-1 victory over the USSR student national team. The Varsity presence in Olympic hockey continued during the 1980s. At Lake Placid in 1980, Tom Watt was a co-coach of Team Canada with a roster that included no fewer than six Blues players: Warren Anderson, Dan D’Alvise, Cary Farelli, Joe Grant, Shane Pearsall and Stelio Zupancich. Anderson and current head coach Darren Lowe were Olympians in 1984 at Sarajevo. In 1992-93, after capturing the Queen’s Cup, the Blues lost to Acadia in the national final. U of T’s most recent national title was won in 1983-84, when coach Mike Keenan led the Blues to a 9-1 victory over the Concordia Stingers. The Blues have won 10 national, 21 Ontario league and 10 additional titles for a total of 41 championships in the team’s history. “During my years in hockey I have been fortunate to have been part of many great traditions. However, the tradition of excellence at the University of Toronto is unsurpassed by any I have seen. It’s great people who have created this great program. Being a part of Blues Hockey is something I hold very close to my heart.” - Mike Keenan, former GM of NHL’s Florida Panthers
