2009 OUA Championships The University of Toronto Varsity Blues track and field team competed at the 2010 OUA championships, February 26-27, at Toronto Track & Field Centre at York University. The Blues women’s team finished in fourth place with 92.5 points. The Windsor Lancers (179) took the title, while the Western Mustangs (136) and Guelph Gryphons (111.5) were second and third, respectively. Toronto’s men placed sixth with a combined team score of 43 points. The Lancers men also earned the OUA banner with 144 points, ahead of both the Gryphons and Mustangs, who tied for second place with 122.5 points. Fifth-year veteran Mike Del Monte (Guelph, Ont.) set a field house and OUA record in the men’s 1000m on Friday night. Del Monte crossed the finish line in 2:23.99 to better Waterloo’s Harvey Mitro’s record time of 2:24.07, set in 1987. Leading the way on the women’s side was three-time CIS cross country champion Megan Brown. Brown (Guelph, Ont.) broke a field house record in the 1000m with a time of 2:46.61 and went on to win the 3000m (9:26.49) on Friday to earn Toronto’s only double-gold medal performance of the meet. Off the track, both Jason Wurster (Stevensville, Ont.) and Sarah Boyle (Scarborough, Ont.) defended their provincial titles. Wurster cleared 5.40m to dominate the men’s pole vault, while Boyle cleared a height of 1.75m to top all competition in the women’s high jump. Sarah Oag of Mississauga, Ont. finished third, jumping 1.61m. Ottawa native Alicia Brown finished three one-hundredths of a second behind first-place Noelle Montclam of the Windsor Lancers in the women’s 300m. Brown crossed the finish line in 39.32 seconds - good for a silver-medal finish. Sophomore Sarah Wells (Unionville, Ont.) also earned a silver medal in the women’s 600m (1:32.83) Other top results include the women’s 4x200m relay team of Brown, Athena McBean (Mississauga, Ont.), Jessica Caterini (Ajax, Ont.), and Thandiwe Vela (Toronto) second-place finish in a time of 1:42.55.
