The two-time OUA defending champion Blues had a perfect 14-0-0 season heading into last year’s CIS championship on home turf, where they earned the national silver medal. U of T has won a league-leading 29 provincial titles since 1971. Toronto’s forward line will be led by fourth-year veteran Ally Evanyshyn (Burlington, Ont.), who led the team and ranked second in the province with 12 goals last season. She, along with sophomore standout Emma Stairs (Kitchener, Ont.) will be U of T’s biggest offensive threats. Stairs sat third on the team and fifth in the OUA with nine goals in 12 regular season games in 2012. They will look to fourth and fifth-year veterans Gabby Permell (Burlington) and Justine Branco (Mississauga) to step up and contribute to the attack this season.

W E I V PRE

The Blues midfield will be anchored by Emma’s sister, 2012 CIS allCanadian Tegan Stairs. Tegan, who transferred from the Guelph Gryphons in 2012, notched 11 goals in her first regular season with U of T and led the team with three tallies at the national tournament. She, along with fourth-year veteran and offensive threat Alex Thicke (North Vancouver), will guide the midfield, which includes the youth and speed of newcomers Taylor Fleck (Raleigh, N.C.), Emma Wingrave (Oakville) and Megan Johansen (Kelowna, B.C.). The Blues will also look to two-time CIS all-Canadian Amanda Woodcroft (Waterloo) to fill the gaps when she returns from her tour with the Canadian senior national team in Argentina and Australia.

With the loss of Kaelan Watson and Kelley Lusk on the back end, veterans Sara Ali (Toronto) and Heather Haughn (North Vancouver) will be relied on to step into a leadership role this season. Haughn will add speed and creatively out of the defensive lines and the duo will help pre-season standouts Alison Lee (Mississauga) and Rachel Fackoury (Maryhill, Ont.) make a difference in 2013. Burlington native Katy-Jo Williams enters her fifth and final season between the pipes and, after a solid preseason showing, will once again prove that she is one of the top netminders in the country.
