Teen Summer Reading Challenge (TSRC) Returns!
VPL's Adult Summer Shortlist
First we asked you to read 250,000 pages, and you did it. Then we asked you to read 500,000 pages and you did that too. But this summer, it will be much tougher! This summer, we challenge YOU, the Teens of Vaughan ages 13 to 18, to read….
This summer, let the library help you escape into your imagination with our Summer Shortlist! Travel on the Titanic during the fateful voyage. Help an eccentric 11 year old with an interest in poisons solve the mystery of a dead body she discovered while looking for ingredients. Follow the moving story of four women in Masada, a mountain fortress in ancient Israel besieged by the Roman army. Laugh as unlikely politician Angus McLintock drags truth and integrity kicking and screaming to Parliament Hill. Imagine being a middle-aged man confronted with a tragedy from childhood in a prize-winning international bestseller.
ONE MILLION PAGES! So to clarify, that doesn’t mean you alone have to read 1,000,000 pages (as that would be a malicious contest)… no no no… it means that all of the teens in Vaughan must read a combined total of 1,000,000 pages. Got it? Oh, and if you beat THIS challenge, WE, the librarians, will dress up for an entire week in a fashion that YOU choose! But that's not all......
Flexible & Convenient
Want to win a Kobo Vox? If you are the top reader in Vaughan, you will win your very own Kobo Vox! There will also be prizes for the second and third place winners as well!

Library News
Map of Library Locations
@ the Board Greetings from Michael McKenzie Chair, Vaughan Public Library Board Welcome to @ the Library. I hope that everyone is enjoying their summer and finding time to enjoy the resources at Vaughan Public Libraries. We have been working to incorporate new technologies to support and enhance library service and digital literacy. We are happy to now offer netbooks and notebooks in our community libraries. Ansley Grove, Dufferin Clark, Maple and Woodbridge libraries all have computers that can be signed out and used in the library for a two-hour loan period. These computers are equipped with Microsoft Office 2010, the OverDrive Media Console and the four major Internet browsers. We have also recently made available, at all our locations, Kobo Vox eReaders. These eReaders are loaded with an assortment of titles and are available for loan for three weeks. Based on the success of our netbook/notebook initiative, we are hoping to make available iPads to use in our Pierre Berton and Bathurst Clark Resource Libraries. Aside from the new resources, we hope that our Summer Reading Club will be able to surpass the phenomenal success of last year. During our Teen Summer Reading Challenge (TSRC) last year we challenged our teens to read 500,000 pages and they exceeded our expectations and read 1 million pages! I hope that everyone will find time to do more reading this summer and that our new technology resources will give one more reason to see you @ the library.
