What’s New Greetings
from Michael McKenzie Chair, Vaughan Public Library Board Welcome to What’sOn at the Library. As we celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Dufferin Clark Library in 2013, I am happy to announce progress in the building of our newest library. The design build contract to build the library at the North Thornhill Community Centre has been awarded to Maystar General Contractors Inc. in collaboration with Diamond Schmitt Architects. The newest addition to Vaughan Public Libraries (VPL) has been officially named Pleasant Ridge Library. We thank all those who contributed suggestions for the naming of the library. Construction is scheduled to be completed in November 2014. In other building news, signs now mark the spot along the north-west quadrant of the Civic Centre Campus where the new Civic Centre Resource Library will be built and the project to build a space for teens in the Pierre Berton Resource Library is underway. We look forward to the completion of our building projects that will offer the citizens of Vaughan new opportunities and resources that Enrich Inspire Transform and provide more reasons to check out What’sOn at the Library.

Teen Awards 2013
Vaughan Public Libraries (VPL) held its annual Teen Awards celebration on October 23 at the City Playhouse Theatre. The awards ceremony honoured Julia Goleva, the top reader from VPL’s Teen Summer Reading Challenge who read 121,007 pages; the winners of the Early Harvest Competition and over 700 volunteers who dedicated their time to support VPL in the past year. The Early Harvest Competition winners were selected based on their talent in sketching, photography, writing and video categories by judges Victoria Coretti, Deborah Kerbel, Natalie Rawe, Rob Tari, David West and Elana Wolff. The evening featured musical performances by high school students Trista Suke and Christopher Tufaro.
