READING CHALLENGE 2023

READING CHALLENGE

Welcome to the July and August issue of What’s On! The height of Summer is here, but at Vaughan Public Libraries we have many cool activities to entertain you.

Our Teen Summer Reading Challenge is filled with unique opportunities to push boundaries and discover something new. Enjoy weekly escape rooms, awesome reading lists and more! At the TD Summer Reading Club, kids can grow their literacy skills by dropping in at one of our fun activities, including a picnic party, a pretend trip to the beach, an opportunity to be a nature detective or design and print their own 3D monster and delve deep into coding! They can also record their summer reading and track their progress.

We also have exciting programs for adults such as our Kitchen Traditions series which begins in July. Discover stories from different cultures and recipes from our community as we travel the world in the VMC’s Gourmet Teaching Kitchen. We’ll continue to explore Creative Aging and enjoy a virtual tour of the McMichael Canadian Art Collection. Finally, what better way to end this Summer than with ice cream? Join us on August 3 to learn how to make it dairy-free. So much to do!

Enjoy your summer at VPL

Join us on a reading journey this Summer! We’re challenging you to read more broadly, read outside your comfort zone, discover something new, and have fun. Follow along with our monthly Reading Challenge vaughanpl.info/blog/reading-challenge-2023 and let us know what you’re reading on social media. In July we look at a book set in school and in August we look at a book that takes place during the summer.

MARCH OF THE LIVING

Bathurst Clark Resource Library will host this photography exhibit that follows the journey of young adults visiting Poland to learn about the lost Jewish community and discover the full impact of the Holocaust. Visit from July 5 – August 30. In partnership with the UJA Federation of Greater Toronto.
