Margie Singleton CEO, Vaughan Public LibrariesSeptember is here and a new wave of children will be entering school this Fall, so don’t forget the tutoring opportunities and study spaces available at your local library — just ask and our staff can help! If it’s still too early for your little one to start school, it’s never too soon to help them on their learning journey. The 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program encourages a shared reading experience that develops literacy skills in preschoolers while creating magical moments for preschoolers and their families. This can be complemented by one of our popular storytimes, available for children of different ages.
The return to school also means the return of PA Days, and VPL has families covered! We have free drop-in activities available at all of our locations on September 22 and October 20, plus full day camps available for both days. Our first camp takes place at Ansley Grove Library and campers will learn stop motion animation and create their own movies. In October we have a dragon-themed camp at Civic Centre Resource Library where kids will discover how flight works and everything they need to be successful dragon riders. Camps are open to grades 2–6 and registration is $40. Of course, Fall isn’t just about kids returning to school, it’s also a season when a lot of us feel like starting something new after the long days of Summer. At your library, that could be something like using either of our video or music studios, discovering new craft in our Make It! spaces or cooking up your next culinary masterpiece in the VSES Teaching Kitchen, located at VMC Library.
