PROVIDER TOUCHPOINT – NOV. 18, 2022

Update: Community Navigator/Community Guide Vaya previously notified providers on Oct. 28, 2022 (Provider Communication Bulletin 2022-23 Issue 22), that the community navigator service was being discontinued as of Nov. 30, 2022. Vaya has recently received notification from NCDHHS indicating the service will now not sunset on this date. According to NCDHHS, NC Medicaid intends to phase out the community navigator service as of April 1, 2023, because the service duplicates Tailored Care Management. During the interim period between Tailored Care Management launch on Dec. 1, 2022, and Tailored Plan launch on April 1, 2023, the community navigator service will remain available as members transition to Tailored Care Management. Members currently receiving community guide can continue to do so as Tailored Care Management services begin. NC Medicaid will work with Vaya and the state’s other LME/MCOs to identify members currently receiving community guide and support an active warm transition process with providers to help the member move to Tailored Care Management by April 1, 2023. In the coming days, Vaya will be working to ensure continuity of service for members who were affected by the previous understanding of the service end date. If providers have any questions, contact your provider network contract manager or provider.info@vayahealth.com.

Holiday Schedule: Vaya Office Closure Vaya offices will be closed on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 24-25, 2022, in observance of the Thanksgiving Day holiday. Our 24/7 Behavioral Health Crisis Line will remain available at 1-800-8496127.

LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) Training As part of the NC Medicaid 1115 Demonstration Waiver, all licensed behavioral health clinicians who are contracted with an LME/MCO and/or a Standard Plan to provide assessment or evaluation services and identify a substance use diagnosis as a part of a comprehensive clinical assessment/diagnostic assessment must use ASAM criteria to guide treatment recommendations. The UNC School of Social Work-Behavioral Health Springboard is facilitating a virtual, two-day ASAM criteria training that will provide participants an in-depth look at the theoretical foundations of the criteria, including clinically driven services, biopsychosocial assessment, the six dimensions, continued stay, and transfer/discharge criteria. Registration is now open for the course, which will be offered monthly from December 2022 to June 2023. For more information or to register, visit the Behavioral Health Springboard website.
