“TEJIDOS AL TIEMPO” CHONI CÍA. FLAMENCA

SYNOPSIS How to conquer time and death? “Tejidos al Tiempo” is a story told with a new visual language, but that resorts to radically flamenco expressive means. It’s a complex work: a reflection about time, life and death, full of surprising discoveries. Choni expresses through her dances -seguiriya, fandangos, soleá, soleá por bulería and milongasthe struggle to defeat death, that may not be possible but conceiving a new life.

THE SHOW “Tejidos al Tiempo” means to

immerse performers and listeners in the different mood of each song: from the strenght of bulería to the temperament of soleá, or the anger and regret of seguiriya, passing also trough the musicality of a milonga with an argentinian touch and the courage of fandango. “Tejidos al Tiempo” researches into such a malleable discipline as contemporary dance without losing the roots, keeping its flamenco essence. Other disciplines, as the pantomime, are also significant in this work, united by the innovations on stage and the visual language to bring fresh air to flamenco. More intimate scenes, with elegance and originality, give the work a new and attractive character.

PROGRAM 60 min

I SCENE

“WOMAN WITH NINE MOONS DIADEM” Seguiriya

It talks about the attachment we have since our birth to an end that we already know but whose nature we forget sometimes. "DESTINY IS CALLED DEATH" Here I am, in the middle of the lusty nothingness, not knowing why or what I have been elected for. By whom? Here I wait. I've been waiting since ever. I’ll wait until the nine moons diadem melts. Oh, incorruptible time! I know that’s the way it is.

II SCENE

“I AM SAND” Fandangos Today I know who you are, guest. I know who you're not. Today I know who you were, because you napped at the bottom of my soul. Your jaw, your bindings, were just messengers, envoys of time, dressed with wind and shadow.

III SCENE

“DEATH” Soleá por bulerías, romance

He is someone who knows you well and has waited all his lifetime the right moment to satisfy a desire, touching you.

IV SCENE

“A FOUND HOPE” Soleá

Here I am pregnant with land and firmament, with peace. A peace that will be born tomorrow because today it can’t be, because it's not for me anymore. A peace: that’s why I called you, to tell you the name of my son: Peace. There won’t be rest for me but when your friendly bare hand will close my eyes. What for that light then, when I won’t be able to see? But my son, to your mouth I entrust

V SCENE

“OF HOW TIME DOES ITS JOB AND PASS THE BATON TO DEATH” Milonga He is someone who knows you well and has waited all his lifetime the right moment to satisfy a desire, touching you. He also knows that after that much waiting, he’ll only have you for an instant. Then you’ll be gone forever. He’ll be back to the eternal curse of being part of some other being who will come to be known, to live always as a legend, as something we forget sometime. We’ll see it an unexpected day, even if it’s for once.

VI SCENE

“I AM SAND II” Marcha Did I arrive? And what for, and why? I just had to take a step, that’s what they said to me, just to take a step. Wood, hinges, a frame, you'll find a handle on your left, right down, an area a little difficult to sweep, a place, a defined moment and another place. If you go up you'll see the perfect place for a spider house. Still straight by risk and fear you’ll reach opportunity and finally, uncertainty. Taking a step, it’s only taking a step. That’s what I was told, all I can remember.

BIOGRAPHY ASUNCIÓN PÉREZ “CHONI”, She has a long career as a solo artist working in many theaters and shows. She has extensively worked as part of the artistic cast of big companies such as those of Mario Maya, Antonio “El Pipa” y Eva “Yerbabuena”. Now she’s presenting her last show "Tejidos al Tiempo", the first creation of his own company, Choni Cía. Flamenca.

Her dancing, typical from Sevillian school, is defined by her elegance, femininity and grace, as for the master of arms, hands and feet, and the way she easily handles her bata de cola (dress tail).
