HUB
The major take away apart from design was time management. The trimester was 11 weeks long, so the idea was to start working on the project right from day one and leave nothing for the last moment. Fortunately, by perfect time management I was not only able to finish the project one and a half day before the deadline but also was able to help my colleagues on their project. (Under the guidance of Prof. Des Smith - Individual work)

The driving force behind this architectural project was designing a space for people. The design proposal seek to address two key issues - To incorporate the Melbourne style of architecture. - To cater to the residents of Southbank by providing an urban heart. The primary reason to choose Melbourne is to gain confidence to design a space in one of the major cities in the world. Southbank promenade is a regional tourist attraction and does not provide a local heart to Southbank. The lack of local convenience shopping facilities, services and public gathering spaces and fun places that drive people to Southbank is missing and this project, will be the heart of Southbank and also an end to the long Cultural Precinct spine at the Sturt street, Southbank.
BUILT FORM - Initial experimentation to create a gathering space for the future and the current residents of Southbank
As this project site is located at Southbank which is a part of Melbourne, the site had to respect the Melbourne style of Architecture. Many people would argue that Melbourne does not have any particular style or character, but when I walked into the streets of Melbourne, I came across several things which are unique to this place and among them, was the concept of the OLD and NEW, which had come from searching for public spaces in the CBD Melbourne and there was no better example than the Federation Square the new built form, which sits in front of St Paul’s Cathedral, which is an old built form.
GROUND FLOOR SPACE PLAN
Stone and Metal were the two major materials used to represent the old and new style of Architecture. Along with the old and new, Another concept which could not escape was the idea of creating lane ways which was associated with Melbourne. Then the major idea was to infuse these bits of Melbourne into the building so it feels like the building belongs to this place.

SITE PLAN - REPRESENTING THE VARIOUS SPACES IN THE CULTURAL HUB 10
The Pedestrian Bridge design has been instigated by one of the Yarra River bridges in Melbourne. The extended parts of the bridge face the AACA building on the one side and the City Link on the other side. The geometry of the Pedestrian Bridge is formed by extending the construction lines from the edge of the AACA building . 11
CENTRAL PLAZA PLAN
The central Plaza caters to two important landmarks of the Southbank: The Promenade and the AACA/Malthouse Theatre. The series of diagrams establishes Plaza as a part of the residential area along with emphasis to the Promenade and the AACA/ Malthouse Theatre. 12

The central library is divided into 2 spacesbook collection and reading spaces, with reference to the sun’s orientation. The west side of the library receives less sunlight. Hence, the book collection space is located in the western side for the protection of books from the sunlight

and the reading spaces are provided on the Eastern side with abundant natural light penetrating through the windows and the roof. CENTRAL LIBRARY FLOOR PLAN

SOUTH MELBOURNE MARKET
The major takeaway from this group project was team work and a way to incorporate collective design ideas into one project, which resulted in the success of the project.
Group Work - 4 Project Type: Market Project Site: Melbourne, Vic Software: Autocad, Sketch Up, Photoshop, Camtasia Studio.
My input was towards the design concept , 3d modeling, creating a short movie using Camtasia Studio. (Under the guidance of Prof. Richard Tucker )

The propose design for South Melbourne Market was addressed in relation to ‘CITIES & SIGNS 3’from Italo Calvino: Invisible City. It articulates where the stranger enters a space and the journey seems like an adventure.
Although, the stranger strongly thinks that the city in front of him seems disordered in relation to every building is set in a different order, but as soon he enters the city, it is actually well structured in relation to its surrounding context and purpose. The stranger simply has to enjoy the adventure that’s been presented to him.

THE VISION WAS TO CREATE SHOPS ON EITHER SIDE IN ORDER TO UTILIZE BOTH THE SPACES AND AT THE SAME TIME CREATE AN INTERESTING SPACE FOR THE CONSUMERS.

VIEW OF THE ENTRANCE FROM THE TRAM STOP
The concept for the roof design was to incorporate a tensile structure, which shall bring in abundant natural light and also incorporate a feeling of openness to the market space and also to the community.
Apart from that, the long span structure such as this shall allow more central space without any hindrance of the columns or beams to support the structure. SECTION INDICATING THE VARIOUS LEVELS

Second part of the Market design was to produce a detail section of the 6 individual blocks in the Master plan, selected during the interim.

In the detail sections emphasis was given to the effects of lighting and shadows and also the interaction of individual block to the other blocks on the site. My input was in two aspects of the design. The first one was to come up with an idea to create a circular foot over bridge in between the blocks. The bridge acts not only as a pathway but also an interactive space connecting the blocks to the food court and game zone designed by me which was the second part. The work involved design and execution of a 110 Sq.m. Office space. The design intent was to create an interesting work space using asymmetrical shapes. My input for this project comprised detail design assistance, working drawings, organizing client meetings, representing the company, dealing with various contractors, finalizing materials and periodic supervision from commencement till completion. N E P H R O L O G Y U N I T, INDIA TRANSFORMATION - ROYALTY MEETS HUMANITY
The work involved design and execution of a nephrology unit of 6000sq.ft area for a heritage building. It was one of the most challenging projects as it involved a heritage building and 16 clients as it was a joint venture. The idea was to retain the original structure and yet provide comfort and modern facilities to the patients. After several months of analysis and transformation a palace was converted into a hospital retaining its originality. My input for this project comprised detail working drawings, organizing client meetings, representing the company, dealing with various contractors, finalizing materials and periodic supervision from commencement till completion.
