Urban Utopia 1 Provide density of housing options in selected locations of the community. 2 Locate higher desity of housing near commercial areas and along major transportation corridors. 3 Provide adequate off street parking 4. Ensure the availability of adequate commercial facilities within the community core to meet the needs of the existing and projected residential population of Clairemont Mesa.

2 Yantalo The site for the project is lush green spaces and mountain areas on the property at Yantlo Peru. The best way to design Yantalo foundations community homes would be by building around the lush green natural space and adopting the vernacular style of architecture. This can be achieved by using locally available materials on site, and making the best use of site in terms of its natural topography, light and ventilation. These natural resources used well on site, would result in a superior design.

3 Mera Mira-Mesa Mesa Re-Designed Town Centre The project was to study the Town Centre at - mera mesa along Camino Ruiz and Mera Mesa Boulevard. The large asphalt filled parking lots and the vastness of the spaces at the site where targeted upon to create smaller blocks within the existing. This design approach led to creating multifuctional zonning creating various disctricts for housing, commercial and office spaces. This resulting in a denser and a more lively town-centre for Mera Mesa

4 ULI Mira-Mesa - Kearny Town Mesa Centre The project for ULI this year was to develop a master plan for re-modeling the existing C3 Church and the commercial strip at the intersection of Balboa Avenue and Ruffin street. The project was to analyse and work out along with the planners and business school students to come up with a feasible solutions for the site. Part of the project was to adopt eco-friendly designs, following the 10Guiding principples and the current climate action plan for the city of San Diego.

3-D Modeling, Working Drawing The project was designed using the Auto CAD Revit software to define the schematic floor plan into functioning working drawing. The project also helped understand the power of detailing in a project and helped produse a 3-D Rendered image for the client and to develop a working drawing set good for construction.

Kearny Mesa Revitilization The main purpose of the project is to create more people friendly neighbourhoods interspaces with equail amounts of built and open green spaces to result in community style living. There is also a need today for high density housing and community style housing, within the neighbourhoods. To alter the car oriented living is also one aspect of study.

-This years sukkha build(2017) was to design sukkhas for the harvest festival in October adopting this years theme the 4 elements of sukkha.

The project was designed keeping the theme in mind and went into construction to be desplayed at the festival of Sukkha hapenning in Oct 2017.

-The assignment was to develop a

rendering for our architectural project with the rite scene setting lighting and to applying textures using Adobe Creative cloud softwares.

Also, altering the existins cityscpaes or rendering to fit the induvidual projecttime that we wanted was part of the assignments and rendering developments.

Research for the design process of urban utopia indicates that, to solve the current energy crisis and suburban sprawl issues retro-fitting to add more desity for housing and retail in a sustainable way would be the direction to take to achieve “Urban Utopia within the current scenarios.

The Reference images; 1. Depicts the possible utopian street structure for the main street intersections. 2. Depicts the proposed retail shop fronts with wide pedestrian walkways and bike paths. 3. Denotes the re-designed alley for open green spaces and walkways. 4

The initial concept development around the circular planning is further integrated into the generic square form to adequately make the best use of the circular space.

The relation of this form of design would be creating resting hives for the busy working doctors of Yantalo, these residential community housing would create aesthetically pleasing and functional spaces for the community and its visitors.

The use of the 8-sided octagonal also related to natures existing Honey-Comb structure of the Bees. The Bee-Hives are Hexagonally shaped to accommodate the most amount of honey collected by the bee’s.

The broken down basic scheme of the individual housing unit incorporates the basic facilities needed within a housing unit

6

HOUSING UNIT INTERIOR SECTIONS: Yantalo is a serene people friendly community serving the people of yantalo with their medical facilities, also providing clinical support with the common goals of community development. The medical doctors and facilitators are seen to be working round the clock supporting the clinical facilities on site. Housing them in relaxing community homes might be something the yantalo foundation might need for the near future. 7

SITE PLAN: The schematic for the site plan for the housing design is depicted above. With the entrance lying to the North-East of the layout, provides easy access from the hospital building. The clusters of housing incorporate within itself private gardens for individual homes as well as enclosed within the open courtyard in the Centre.

SUSTAINABILITY AND DESIGN Climate action plan Incorporating climate action plan steps into our big idea by using greenhouse gas reduction strategies

CLIMATE ACTION PLAN

strategies to reduce green house gas emissions 1. Energy efficiency: implementation of solar panels, green roofs and wind turbines infrastructure and regulations. 2. Water recycling: implementation of rain water capture and filtration infrastructure in the park 3. Public Transit Priority: locate housing near mass transit, encourage use of electric cars, time traffic lights to be in sequence to minimize idling and reduce commute times. 4. Zero waste, zero net energy: production of energy = consumption of energy, recycling and sorting stations, solar panels. 5. Climate Resiliency: improve urban forestry by creating parks and adding vegetation

URBAN AND STREET DESIGN

Mira Mesa Street Sections Without having to change the width between the buildings on Mira Mesa Boulevard, we were able to really condense the lanes down to two travel lanes on either side at 11’ each and add a parking/bus stop lane that measures at 9’. Next to that we placed 5’ bike lanes that are protected by 3’ medians on one side and lengthened 15’ tree-lined sidewalks. What this will hopefully achieve is the appearance of a narrower street that will slow down traffic moving through the site. Also, the addition of trees help to absorb the sound emanating from the vehicles that will make a quieter, more appealing streetscape with large sidewalks to help move pedestrian traffic around.

Before vs After This diagram is a comparison between the first proposal and the present proposal. We generated many proposalss to get to the few that were helping the neighborhood, work better for walking and biking over cars. The street layout was simplified, giving the neighborhood more options to develop pedestrian exclusive routes without too many break ups along the way.
