A NIGHT IN
the
PARK
By Jason R. Latham
The perfect itinerary for a center-Strip adventure Las Vegas needed a place like The Park, an immersive dining and entertainment district from MGM Resorts anchored by Monte Carlo (soon to be the Park MGM resort and Nomad Las Vegas), New York-New York and T-Mobile Arena. Maybe not 15 to 20 years ago when a different generation was still dropping coins into slot machines (remember those buckets everyone had to carry around?). But now, we like being outside. We like trees. We like taking selfies in natural light. The Park gives both tourists and locals some space to breathe, and when the Vegas Golden Knights start to play in the fall at T-Mobile Arena, it’ll be a place to be seen.
Here’s what not to miss and a few tips on where to experience the best of The Park Party at The Park
Circle Tuesday and Wednesday nights on your calendar and don’t miss the weekly “Party at the Park.” Take a car or leave yours at the New York-New York garage (the first hour of self-parking is free!) and enjoy live music along with $5 beer, wine and shot specials at the three restaurants that line Park Avenue: Beerhaus, California Pizza Kitchen and Sake Rok.
Now, about those restaurants … July 27–Aug ust 9, 2017 vegasseven.com
Bruxie
It’s all about chicken, wrapped in flaky waffles, at Bruxie, so consider this an on-the-go meal that requires two hands. The SoCal-based fast-casual concept opened its first Las Vegas outpost at The Park, introducing us to such delights as the “Holy Chicken” and waffle sandwich with bacon, Sriracha sauce and an egg. It kind of makes you feel not worthy.
Beerhaus
Sake Rok
Meeting friends for sushi? Excellent. Get the Godzilla Platter featuring six rolls and a 10-piece sashimi/ nigiri combination. If you don’t eat meat, you won’t feel left out, as the restaurant just introduced a vegan-friendly menu. If you love sushi but not sake, ask about the specialty cocktails and the Nikko punch bowl.
After the Golden Knights play, this will be the hottest post-game bar on the Strip. Until then, mix and mingle at Wednesday’s Geeks Who Drink trivia night or during one of Beerhaus’ two daily happy hours. There’s also live music Thursday through Sunday nights.
And let’s not forget … Shake Shack
It’s hard to believe it’s almost been three years since Shake Shack opened in Las Vegas and people collectively lost their minds. Now there are four in Southern Nevada (a new one just opened in Henderson), and they’re still pulling numbers like the opening weekend of an Avengers movie. Check out the seasonal shake menu, pick up your order and take a walk.
California Pizza Kitchen
CPK is a reliable option, especially if visiting with family or kids. Everyone can agree on pizza, and the menu has enough small plates and drink options that you never feel like you’re ordering the same thing twice. Try the Beehive Sangria, a refreshing concoction of white wine, Cointreau, lavender syrup, strawberry Perfect Purée, honey and lemon.
That alert on your phone means it’s showtime.
Ricky Martin
The Park Theater scored when it signed Ricky Martin to be one of its extended engagement performers. With a 30-year career to his credit, Martin brings cross-generational, cross-cultural appeal, plus we get to hear “Shake Your Bon-Bon” live. He’s back for six September dates starting September 12.
And when the show’s over … New York-New York
It’s been around longer than “Livin’ la Vida Loca,” but New York-New York has The Chocolate Bar (chocolate martinis all around!) and Nine Fine Irishmen, which is a longstanding favorite pub among locals. And if you’re entertaining out-of-towners, Coyote Ugly blows people’s minds, even if they have never seen the movie.
July 27ñAug ust 9, 2017 vegasseven.com
Bliss Dance
Over the past decade, Las Vegas has stepped up its commitment to public art. And it’s simply blissful to see this 40-foot marvel in The Park. “Bliss Dance” is a great backdrop for photos at night, when she’s illuminated by more than 2,800 interior LED lights.
