SIP & SAVOR Tacos and Tequila
Do you remember the $25,000-dollar Taco? On April 28th, Grand Velas Los Cabos will take taco and tequila tasting to a luxurious new level The resort has planned the grand Sip & Savor Tacos and Tequila event to raffle off the most expensive gourmet taco experience in the world, paired with Ley .925 tequila from the "La Ley el Diamante" bottle; valued at a total of $3.5 million dollars. The fundraiser will benefit the Los Cabos Children's Foundation, a non-profit association dedicated to helping children and youth throughout Baja California Sur. The foundation supports public and private programs focused on the treatment of conditions ranging from cancer to congenital heart defects, autism, hearing, vision and dental issues.
Where, when and how?
The event takes place on April 28th, 2017 in the Grand Velas Ballroom at 7:00 p.m. Dress code is Casual Elegance.. Tickets are $60 dollars each, including a raffle ticket. Additional raffle tickets are offered at $30 dollars each and may only be purchased by those with a ticket to the event. What is The Most Expensive Taco in the World made of?
Its tortilla is made of corn and 24k gold flakes. The filling consists of langostino, Kobe veal, ‘Almas’ beluga caviar and black truffle brie cheese. It is served with an exotic morita chile salsa with civet coffee and Ley .925 Ultra Premium Añejo Tequila.
What about “La Ley Del Diamante”?
It is a ceramic bottle forged at high temperature, artisanally crafted by the Maestro Gerardo Cedillo. Made by 100% Mexican hands over the course of 10 months, decorated with liquid platinum and 4,100 diamonds. The entire bottle weighs approximately 8 kilos, or 17 pounds and 10 ounces, and comes in a Chiapan mahogany case with “piano” finishes and beveled mirrors. This project is sponsored by the Compañía Tequilera Hacienda de La Capilla of Los Altos de Jalisco, Mexico.

ELITE The 2017 Jalisco-Nayarit Wine Fest took place from March 1-5, with Velas Resorts hosting a number of the festival’s activities. Casa Velas inaugurated the festival with an amazing welcome celebration and wine tasting, with the press, restaurant and hotel representatives, oenologists and sommeliers in attendance. Velas Vallarta then hosted the Vertical Tasting of the five Tignanello wines, the eighth-best wine in the world in 2016, and the Horizontal Tasting of Five Mexican Wines, guided by the event’s best sommeliers. The resort also hosted the Expo Vino, an afternoon on the fourth of March with wine tasting and sales of Mexican and Italian wines at special prices. Restaurants Andrea (Velas Vallarta), Emiliano (Casa Velas) and Lucca restaurant at Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit also participated with presentations of wine, tastings and pairings. Mandalas in Full Color The latest addition to the comprehensive wellness experience at Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit is a book of mandalas to color; an activity known for its benefits to not only physical, but mental comfort and wellbeing. The book features 56 pages of different mandalas; these ancient, spiritual symbols are utilized in rituals that represent the universe and its creations, and often used in meditation as well. It is available at the resort’s boutique at a cost of $35 USD. This stress-diminishing activity is also being offered to groups during breaks in their meetings.

Leatherback Sea Turtles Return to the Bay of Banderas After up to 15 years without making an appearance off the Puerto Vallarta coast, on Tuesday, March 28 biologists at the Tortuguero Camp in Boca de Tomates reported that Leatherback Sea Turtle eggs had nested on the beaches, and their collected eggs had now hatched. The Leatherback is the largest species of sea turtle in existence. They can measure more than 2 meters and weigh over 900 kilograms, and are characterized by their shell with five lines and their ability to dive to depths of over 900 meters. During nesting season, they come to tropical beaches, spending the rest of the year traveling north to Canada. Though they are an endangered species, strong efforts are made to preserve them; this, coupled with the fact that the normal sea turtle nesting season is from August to September, made this a truly exciting event. Velas Vallarta and the Tortuguero Camp of Boca de Tomates have been working together to protect sea turtles for more than 20 years, and it was here that the baby Leatherbacks were released. As part of its environmental program, the resort has an area for incubation of eggs and caring for just-hatched baby turtles. Guests can also participate in the collection of eggs from the beach, cleaning the nests, and turtle release. Visitors, resort guests, residents and press gathered on the Velas Vallarta beach at sunset for the release of this delicate species and to celebrate its return, with a turtle specialist to explain the history and significance of the event.

Mexican Margarita - with cucumber and habanero Now that spring is upon us, it’s the perfect time to cool off with a delicious premium cocktail! Velas Vallarta shares the recipe for its cucumber and habanero chile margarita, great for enjoying with family and friends.
INGREDIENTS

2 oz. tequila 1 oz. Triple Sec or Cointreau ½ oz. simple syrup ½ cucumber ½ habanero chile 2 tsp. lime juice
PREPARATION Place all the ingredients in a blender with three or four ice cubes and blend until smooth. Rim your glasses with salt and lime, pour in the mixture and garnish with a slice of lime.
