Flyboard y kitesurf Grand Velas Riviera Maya invites thrill seekers to get their adrenaline pumping with its two new extreme water sports, Flyboarding and Kitesurfing. Guided by instructors certified by the International Flyboard Association (IFA), the new Flyboarding offering allows guests to strap their feet on a personal watercraft and soar to heights of up to 55 feet above the Caribbean azure waters. Guests can also obtain an International Kiteboarding Association (IKA) certificate. The certificate is available in three different levels, basic, intermediate, and advanced, where each level takes between two and a half to three hours to complete. Adventurers who only have time to complete one or two levels are able to finish their training with any other IKA affiliated member around the world. For persons over 13 years old, Flyboard costs $189 per half hour. The Kitesurf training costs $250 per level. A perfect aquatic adventures to fly over the sea!

Renovations Casa Velas recently debuted a million-dollar renovation of its spacious suites in celebration of its 10th Anniversary this November. A total of 38 suites underwent complete bathroom upgrades, receiving new Italian marble countertops, glass shower doors and double sinks. The suites also received new furnishings in the living and bedroom areas, such as HDTVs, terracotta floors, expansive walk-in closets, wet bars, and contemporary dressers. In addition, three Wellness Suites are available for those travellers who desire a healthy experience, with special amenities for a deep and absolute relaxation.

A majority of the 830 sq. ft. Grand Class suites each had Jacuzzis installed on the suites’ private terraces, while three One-Bedroom Ambassador Suites and one Two-Bedroom Ambassador Suite welcomed new mahogany bars in the kitchen. A highlight of the revamped suites is new art, paintings and textiles, from leading Mexican artists. Casa Velas keeps surpassing the expectations of all guests for their complete comfort, with that classic touch - but contemporary at the same time – that only this hotel can offer.

First cardioprotected resort

In an effort to increase safeness and security to all of its guests and staff, the AAA Five-Diamond Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit is proud to announce that it has become the first cardiac-protected certified resort in Latin America. ACTUM Vital Solutions and Safecare, both of Guadalajara, were responsible for carrying out all the theoretical and practical training of the American Heart Association’s (AHA) cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillation (AED) programs at the resort. In order to obtain the accreditation, the entire staff underwent extensive training for the prevention of deaths from sudden cardiac arrest, inclusive of the protocol for providing assistance in a timely and effective manner. their training, the employees were instructed in the “chain of survival� strategy implemented by AHA, which can improve chances of survival and recovery for victims of heart attack and stroke. In addition, now 78 staff members are specialized in the usage of defibrillators, which are strategically located throughout the resort in the event of a medical emergency. The AHA has long served as the leading U.S. resource for workplace for Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC), CPR and AED training, but in recent years has expanded its training network to share lifesaving ECC expertise worldwide.

On November 18th, 2015 the gala dinner to celebrate the second edition of the Reader Awards by Food & Travel Mexico magazine was held; these awards are given to the best establishments dedicated to tourism and gastronomy in the country. Readers who had the opportunity to cast their votes during the last months; having as a deadline October 30th, selected Grand Velas Riviera Maya as the Best Beach Hotel in Mexico for second consecutive year. Winner of the “I want to be part of the #FGIKitchenFiesta!” contest

On Wednesday, November 11th, since very early, it was announced the winner of the “IWantToBePartOfKitchenFiesta!” contest, from the Kitchen Fiesta event, which took place on November 20th at Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit, as part of the Festival Gourmet International. After days of waiting, and as a reward to his creativity and initiative, “Pato Gtz” was the lucky winner; he had the chance to attend the event as a VIP guest and enjoy a 3 day-2 night stay at Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit with a companion, and round-trip flight for both.

The contest opened its call through the Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit social media profiles and Kitchen Fiesta website. The challenge consisted of cooking a special recipe called: “White fish fillet in coconut milk confit on mashed carrots with white wine sauce and beautiful crust”, created by chef Michel Mustière, member of the “Maîtres Cuisiniers de France” association and Executive Chef of Grand Velas Riviera Maya; the contestants should take a picture of themselves next to their dish and finally upload it to the hotel’s Facebook profile. The picture with more “shares” would be the winner.

Conceived as an event to honor the cuisine of Mexico, the attendees had the opportunity to taste seven periods of the Mexican cuisine, represented in seven stations with dishes created by the renowned chefs of the four Velas Resorts properties.
