A women’s racing bike needs a special geometry to fit their different body shape. While the angle of the seat tube is kept as close to the proper racing angle as possible, it means that the top tube is shorter and the front head tube larger.

No one understands the geometry of a bike better than Eddy, and he is still the master when it comes to fine-tuning the bikes before they go into production. It is, however, the advances in both science and technology, notably in carbon fiber that are leading the way in how we create and develop our bikes. Take the new “525” - named after the total number of victories Eddy had during the course of his race career - it’s a perfect example of what we mean. Both ultra stiff and light, it uses a combination of shape design and a unique carbon fiber mix that barely distorts or twists at all, in fact just 1° for every 150 Nm of power applied. It means that virtually all of a rider’s power is converted into rapid forward motion, and there is little or no wastage.

So you’ll understand that while everyone continues to talk about frame weight, we at Eddy Merckx Cycles prefer to concentrate on having the ‘power under control’. You see, for us, it’s far more important that a frame be stiff and rigid, as well of course as being light, because it means your bike will react instantaneously, and without loss of power.
The Beauty and the Beast

Designed for speed, the ETT is the optimal time trial bike. Numerous features make it a go faster bike. The unique UCI approved “venturi power Box” set up of the frame means in theory you go faster with the same effort.
Inspired by the leap of a big cat, the performance and style of this bike is quite unique. Everything has been designed to help you unleash your “power” and yet keep it “under control”.
The bike has, like the “525”, an integrated frame/fork/stem design and the brakes are integrated into the frame. Everything has been made to fit – so offering maximum stiffness and balance. The highlight though is the clever use of aerodynamic principles to redesign the frame for optimal flow. The vertical mounts in the frame are shaped to reduce turbulence to a minimum, and increase “good” laminar flow.
The raw frame weight is just 1049 g, yet the stiffness of the key components is way ahead of the competition. The headtube for example, with 150 Nm/° of distortion is 67% stiffer than the market average, while the bottom bracket, with a value of 213 Nm/mm is 50% better. The frame of the EMX-525 has been designed specially and exclusively for electronic gearshifts. With that decision, Eddy Merckx Cycles has made a decision to go for optimal performance in terms of both changing gears and the frame.
